About time.

skippy67 · 30/09/2024 13:42

Interesting!

OP posts:

Too late isn't it? She's had her reputation destroyed and had horrific things said about her (including on MN). There's no real reason it needed to take this long.

Nellieinthebarn · 30/09/2024 14:47

I'm glad they said something, but not before she was made out to be a complete whinger. I'm rapidly losing faith in the BBC.

Skipsurvey · 30/09/2024 15:48

surely they both had their reputation ruined?

Houseplanter · 30/09/2024 15:51

I'm not sure what to make of this.. it's very vague, probably deliberately so.

It seems Pernice has been found guilty of swearing and saying some pretty harsh things but cleared of everything else.

Skipsurvey · 30/09/2024 15:48

Hardly. He was massively protected by the BBC. Every newspaper article was along the lines of him being supported by the BBC. A quick google suggests the same.

BBC apologise to Amanda Abbington
ExitPursuedByABare · 30/09/2024 15:55

Don’t call that much of an apology. Only upheld 6 of the 17 complaints and seems to have been for swearing and negative comments.

Jennyathemall · 30/09/2024 15:58

Haha he’s been found not guilty of being abusive, using threatening behaviour or intimidation. He used some rude words. She doesn’t come out of this looking good at all,
unfortunately she just looks like a hysterical woman who couldn’t take the pressure.

Lincoln24 · 30/09/2024 16:00

Yes it's hard to judge what has really gone on. There's a lot of space between calling someone (for example) a fucking lazy bitch who should die and saying (again for example) that what they're not a talented dancer, they're not trying hard enough, that their thighs are too chunky for a dancer's. Both not nice , both could be deemed bullying but one is worse than the other.

Agree with this. It must be brutal having to step up to elite level dance training as a regular (albeit celebrity) punter. It's likely unbelievably hardcore training, but a level that elite dancers are used to and thus feel is socially normal, but that regular people are shocked by and have never been exposed to.

You probably need to push the hell out of a person to get anywhere. There's likely relentless pressure on the dancers to upskill the celebs to put on a good enough show and likely there's some necessarily true blood, sweat and tears going on there.

I think with these shows, it's the culture to blame. The celebs need to know how hardcore it will be before they sign up. Stuff like Celebrity SAS, well the clue is in the name. But Come Dancing sounds all cutesy and nice, but really it's probably Celebrity SAS just with dance shoes on.

Foxxo · 30/09/2024 16:05

quite honestly, it makes her look like a snowflake who couldn't hack it.

So he swore at her, so fucking what. jesus christ, woman needs to sort herself out.

Dora33 · 30/09/2024 16:09

She doesn't come out of it looking good.

kirinm · 30/09/2024 16:14

The women constantly calling someone a snowflake when the BBC has just upheld her complaints of harassment and verbal bullying don't come out well either.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 30/09/2024 16:19

Bit off topic but we were in a regional airport early summer waiting for our flight killing time in the Prosecco bar. At the table next to us were a group of young people who seemed to be causing interest with other bar goers . One little chap in particular kept doing that getting up and walking about thing people do to make sure Everyone Has Noticed Them. DH kept having to move his backpack so little man could get past our table this ensuring as many travellers saw him as possible.

Once they'd finally left (loud, obnoxious, rude to staff and left their table messier than a bunch of 2 year olds) the very excited ladies at the next table told us we'd been sitting next to Giovanni from Strictly Confused don't watch the show so didn't recognise him but lord he was a bit of a Tool

she IS a snowflake, all the bbc have done is uphold the lightest of the complaints so she doesn't feel like its a white wash. they upheld that he swore at her during training, so what?

the fact anyone is referring to a few swear words as 'verbal bullying' is ridiculous.

He didn't deserve to have his reputation ruined and lose his job because she's being a precious primadonna.

Foxxo · 30/09/2024 16:27

the whole thing makes a mockery of women who have suffered real, actual bullying and harassment at work. She made herself a victim, and she isn't one, and nearly destroyed a mans career in the process.

CoatesCat · 30/09/2024 16:30

It says complaints upheld were verbal bullying and harassment. Why do some people here think that means she complained about him swearing at her. Even if she did is it acceptable for your work colleagues to swear at you. I work in an investment bank in high pressure environment. We all swear but we don't abuse each other by swearing AT each other. I think harassment is something else than swearing

Shortpoet · 30/09/2024 16:34

Did they ever release the footage to her and her legal team? I seem to remember that she had asked for it but the BBC wouldn’t show it to her?

LunaNorth · 30/09/2024 16:37

She strikes me as a bit of a pain in the arse. Shouldn’t have had rape threats though, that’s mad.

easylikeasundaymorn · 30/09/2024 16:40

There's just not enough info to work anything definitive out!
My job involves investigations - there's a whole scale between "upheld and not upheld" that will very between every single institution/body.

E.g criminal standard of beyond reasonable doubt is different to civil law balance of probabilities
"Not upheld" could mean "This is a complete lie and there's a significant amount of evidence that proves it never happened" or "there is no evidence either way so we can't uphold it".

I know they've got footage of some of their training but I imagine a lot of the accusations would be "He said, she said" with no other evidence and no way of knowing which was right, therefore impossible to uphold.

Am quite surprised that verbal aggression, insulted and being sworn at are apparently considered okay by MN - on the frequent "customer service" threads its pretty unanimous that even if a lot of people sadly experience that behaviour in their jobs nobody should have to. Its strictly come dancing ffs, not life or death, you can put your point across without shouting at or insulting someone!

Have you always been so hateful towards women?
