This is of course an absolutely tragic event.
I'm feeling a bit mean by saying this.........but why is it the headline topic on BBC news?
I genuinely feel sorry for those involved, but don't understand why it's the dominant news story?

OP posts:

Well yes - further factors may be present. Still doesn't make it suspicious anymore than the other 2 cases which people tried as they might to find something spurious about.

It's more unlikely an unfortunate series of events added together to result in one utter tragedy.

It usually is.

8008Bee · 21/08/2024 11:58

@SnapdragonToadflax I agree - it used to terrify me!

elastamum · 21/08/2024 12:24

Tragically the Bayesian sank in the storm. If the huge mast snapped with the keel raised this could destabilise it. If the bulkheads are all open then it could fill with water really fast, at which point it sinks. It's possible the falling rig punched a hole in the side. A tragic accident. I broached a yacht once and nearly sank it. Stupidly we had the hatches open at sea. We got away with it but it's' terrifying how quickly things can go wrong.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 21/08/2024 12:57

I think it's a tragic accident and I only wish the press were as upset when boat loads of young refugees perish, often after we have meddled in their own country or supported those who have.

TemuSpecialBuy · 21/08/2024 13:09

I assumed this was a freak accident then googled a few news articles and read up on the lawsuits
It’s nuts…

The tragedy struck just two months after Lynch was acquitted in a major US fraud trial over his tech company Autonomy. One of his fellow executives, Stephen Chamberlain, died on Saturday morning after being struck by a car while jogging.

i am no conspiracy theorist but his co-defendant is randomly killed and then in an unrelated incident his super yacht sinks in a total freak accident.

I am not so sure…
🙄

either it’s retribution or he faked his own death.

the daughter is maybe collateral damage but this is not random….

deeahgwitch · 21/08/2024 13:34

Were any other yachts in the vicinity caught up in the bad weather ?

SheilaFentiman · 21/08/2024 13:35

@TemuSpecialBuy

If Lynch wanted to fake his own death, there are better ways to do it than this. Disappearing on a snorkelling trip etc.

Good Lord.

And why would he want to? He was acquitted.

And “retribution”? From who?

SheilaFentiman · 21/08/2024 13:36

deeahgwitch · 21/08/2024 13:34

Yes. The yacht next to it had to fire up engines to counter the weather and then noticed Bayesian was gone. It helped rescue the survivors

So you think he faked his death by sinking his yacht, killing others in the process? When his body is found are you going to tell us he had a spare one ready to leave behind with his DNA etc?

Maybe a lie down in a cool dark room might be in order

TemuSpecialBuy · 21/08/2024 14:41

😅😅😅
fair enough… maybe baby sleep deprivation is taking its toll…

i just think it’s all very weird no?

I dont think it's weird,no

Accidents happen every minute of the day and sometimes they happen to people who are connected in some way

Oblomov24 · 21/08/2024 15:07

I find it odd that so little is being done.

It was a bit like Michael Mosley death in Greece. When I watched the MM searched, in Greece, (and now this off Sardinia) Hardly anyone searching because of the hot weather. No police forces flew in from other big cities. Hardly anything.

Same here. Rough seas. But on the news clips of only 1 boat, a few divers. Surely with a few phone calls you could get 10's of boats, a few helicopters with quite a few divers, within hours. I'm often shocked at the slow speed and lack of urgency. And yes I've travelled a bit and been to all of these places and lived in some remote places in Egypt and Russia and still I've seen more activity when needed than in these 2 cases.

There would be no point having lots of divers... the cabins in the wreck are hard to access with debris blocking the way and divers can only spend 10 mins at a time down there If you had 50 divers, they would all be getting in each other's way.

SheilaFentiman · 21/08/2024 15:16

The British maritime investigators have arrived, because it is UK registered, but at present it's search and rescue (though with little chance now of rescue) ahead of investigation.

SheilaFentiman · 21/08/2024 15:17

I see that two bodies have now been recovered. RIP.

Barbadossunset · 21/08/2024 15:30

Why was the keel raised? (Sorry, I know nothing about yachts or sailing)

Iasonnas · 21/08/2024 15:35

@Oblomov24 I think you're watching too many films.

You think "police forces flying in from other big cities" is a normal or appropriate response to a man going missing? Which big cities? Antalya? Cairo? Istanbul? Because they're the nearest. Turkish and Egyptian police swooping in and trudging all over a small Greek island? Bizarre 🤣

iwishihadknownmore · 21/08/2024 15:38

deeahgwitch · 21/08/2024 13:34

Were any other yachts in the vicinity caught up in the bad weather ?

Apparently not.

This super yacht is going to be investigated for design issues.

I'm no conspiracist but bloody hell, if you put the deaths of the 2 defendants, recently acquitted, in 2 entirely different accidents, within a day of each other in a novel, it would be written out as too absurd a plot.

If these 2 defendants were Russians, accused of defrauding a Russian company, no one would be doubting Putins hand in it all.

itsgettingweird · 21/08/2024 15:55

But there is no reason to go after these 2 after being acquitted.

They won't get the money they wanted and believe they paid over the value.

Also the 2 defendants had a really rough time once extradited to USA. (Which pissed me off because when we wanted one if theirs extradited it didn't happen)

I understand fraud cases aren't just about overpaying but surely a large company like HP should have had waiter tight checks before they buy something. And he was acquitted of what they accused him of anyway.

The Russian example is different because it's often people speaking out about the state system and they are a risk to the country if they continue to do so. And these people tend to fall from windows - that's not usual. This boat sunk in a tornado.

There may or may not have been influencing factors with hatches open or a bad design. But they didn't create the tornado and you can't predict them.

itsgettingweird · 21/08/2024 15:56

Oh and there were loads of boats there. 1 nearby boat helped rescue the survivors and another caught it on camera.

SheilaFentiman · 21/08/2024 15:58

“But there is no reason to go after these 2 after being acquitted.

Exactly @itsgettingweird

SheilaFentiman · 21/08/2024 16:00

If Putin killed a couple of businessmen, it would be eg to stop others defying him in the same way.

You can’t draw a comparison between a megalomaniac dictator and a Listed company.

TankFlyBoss · 21/08/2024 16:39

Does anyone understand why the divers only have ten minutes underwater at a time?

Barbadossunset · 21/08/2024 16:44

What was the point of the incredibly high mast which people are saying could’ve contributed to the disaster?

6ixThirty · 21/08/2024 16:48

TankFlyBoss · 21/08/2024 16:39

Does anyone understand why the divers only have ten minutes underwater at a time?

@TankFlyBoss it's because of the depth of water, and the pressure that far down.
