This is of course an absolutely tragic event.
I'm feeling a bit mean by saying this.........but why is it the headline topic on BBC news?
I genuinely feel sorry for those involved, but don't understand why it's the dominant news story?

I guess because Mike Lynch has been in the public eye lately? I agree it’s so tragic, yet a matter for grieving families now.

ARichtGoodDram · 20/08/2024 22:31

Because among the people missing are Mike Lynch and Jonathan Bloomer?

Multiple Brits are missing and the bulk of the missing were involved in a high profile, long running, fraud trial recently.

Raaraathelionrah · 20/08/2024 22:33

Some are wondering if it wasn’t on purpose - it had the lawyer and Mike Lynch on and they won a case against someone who wouldn’t like that.

MeAgainAndAgain · 20/08/2024 22:34

They’re looking for 4 missing British people.

And his co defendant was killed in Cambridge on Saturday. I think that’s very very strange

Rhaidimiddim · 20/08/2024 22:35

And it is a quite anazing freak accident, and a quite amazing coincidence.

It other words, it is interesting, so the editors will lead with it.

fashionqueen0123 · 20/08/2024 22:35

Also the other guy in the case died from a car crash. So I guess now it’s going to become a conspiracy theory for some people but I don’t even think they can create storms!

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 20/08/2024 22:35

Google Stephen chamberlain.

Me too…

Overtheatlantic · 20/08/2024 22:37

I think it’s in the news because the editors have a whiff of something.

ZenNudist · 20/08/2024 22:37

This is crazy. Lynch was on trial for for fraud. He and his co-conspirator were exonerated in June. Chamberlain was killed in a hit and run on 17 August and 2 days later Lynch's yatch goes down with his family, lawyers, and key trial witnesses. Smell a rat?

SausageinaBun · 20/08/2024 22:43

Steve Chamberlain wasn't killed in a hit and run, the person who hit him stopped.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 20/08/2024 22:43

FFS, it's a coincidence. Tragic but a horrible accident. The storm and waterspout were witnessed by multiple people including local sailors and fishermen.

ZenNudist · 20/08/2024 22:45

So just divine retribution?

Overtheatlantic · 20/08/2024 22:45

Who could pull off such a stunt?

BESTAUNTB · 20/08/2024 22:46

I read that an 18yo who’d just got her A Level results is missing. Ughhh so sad.

Marcipex · 20/08/2024 22:46

I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but this is too strange.

Mike Lynch's daughter

crumblingschools · 20/08/2024 22:52

The chap killed by the car probably wouldn’t have made the news if it wasn’t for the sinking of this boat

EmmaGrundyForPM · 20/08/2024 22:56

I don't know if you're trying to be funny, but that's in incredibly bad taste. Several people have died, including an 18 year old.

coldcallerbaiter · 20/08/2024 22:56

ZenNudist · 20/08/2024 22:45

Why, what do you think they all did to get retribution?

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/08/2024 22:57

Fishy. The whole thing is fishy.

CrushingOnRubies · 20/08/2024 23:01

Can see why the story is running. Its the summer so it's a slow news day and there's more than whiff of rat about it

How you create a freak tornado/ storm but I'm not sure but it may well be possible.

Franjipanl8r · 20/08/2024 23:05

If you know anything about boats this is a really big news story. This was a mega yacht - significantly bigger than a normal boat. The mast on this yacht was 75m high, the height of around a 22 storey building. Think of the titanic of sailing yachts.

So you have an absolutely ginormous yacht, and it sank in around 60 seconds - which is totally unheard of. There’s going to be a big enquiry into why this happened and that’s before even considering the tragic loss of human life and the status of who was on board.

No just someone with too much tin foil to hand
