Absolutely shocking. A 26 year old man named as Kyle Clifford, believed to be armed with a crossbow, is being sought by police.
The dead women are aged 61, 28 and 25.

And here we are, yet again, absolutely horrendous, poor women.

And yes, I did notice that they're being strongly referred to now as 'wife and daughters of...'

That's because the husband and father is well known. It would be the same if the son or husband of a female commentator was murdered.

Let's keep this to a story (a tragic one) about individuals instead of arguing about sexism (in either direction)

YellowAsteroid · 10/07/2024 15:56

This thread demonstrates why men still get away with murdering women Because.They.Are.Women

A lot of women don’t want to, or can’t afford to, acknowledge just how murderous men can be.

I get it. I’m surrounded by lovely men, in my family, my workplace, and my friends.

But until we acknowledge that men, as a sex class, benefit from the underlying threat of violence under which all women live, were not going to make practical steps towards stoping this slaughter of, on average, 2 women a week. Murdered because they are women.

CormorantStrikesBack · 10/07/2024 15:56

And still women aren’t listened to when they voice concerns about potentially dangerous exs. No idea if there had been police involvement in this case but my dd was stalked for a bit by an ex and the police couldn’t have been less interested.

those poor women and that poor husband/dad.

Can you imagine how scared they must have been. So so awful.
And for the father finding them all dead or dying. How do you ever recover from something like that?

Yes. And i also feel for the paramedics who had to attend. Taking in that horrific scene then doing all they could to try and save them

LadyLolaRuben · 10/07/2024 15:53

The man they are looking for is allegedly the brother of Bradley Clifford who was convicted of murder in 2018

Yes, his brother is in prison for beating someone to death. Unbelievable.

SallyWD · 10/07/2024 15:57

I feel so sad for those poor women and for the dad who's lost his entire world. An act of pure evil.

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 10/07/2024 15:57

MorrisZapp · 10/07/2024 15:36

They have been named on all media sources. Because the husband /father is well known, that's the name many commentators will resonate with.

Sure. But sadly, those of us who watch this stuff happening over and over again know that these murdered women are too often referenced in the context of a man, or, at best, in her role as a carer. "Mother of three murdered". Not "GP murdered" or "Woman murdered". "Wife of local solicitor murdered" etc etc etc.

And as I said in my original post, one BBC update claimed to "name" the three women, but only actually named one and referred to the others as "the daughters of".

Well, posters here think anyone talking about male violence has an "agenda". What agenda is that, I wonder? We must confine ourselves to thoughts and prayers about the victims.

It's like US school shootings; don't discuss male violence and the NRA!

Another rage-driven male killing an ex-partner and every other female in the vicinity. I'm so angry. I hope the police get to him before he takes the coward's way out like they usually do.

So sick of it!

Why are there so many dysfunctional men around (and no I’m not going to blame all the mothers!)

Clearly a screw loose with these brothers.

Bad genes? Bad upbringing..Two killers in one family is going some.

That other brother beat a young lad to death for scratching his ''Prized car'' in an accident.

murasaki · 10/07/2024 15:59

Part of me hopes he does kill himself. Because the mythologising of Raoul Moat was sick.

HOw much more sexist does it have to be? These women were murdered because a man didn't think their lives had sufficient value? We don't know for sure but we can be confident based on what we already know so far, and what happens statistically, that this murder took place at the point at which he was told "no" by a woman.

I'm not sure there's anything MORE sexist than that.

Argh. I have to leave this thread. I have so much work to do and I'm just finding this upsetting.

I think most would agree your NAMALT views are not welcome on this thread about three murdered women. HTH.

Speak for yourself.

I’m absolutely astonished that your anger at what has been done here to people that you don’t actually know somehow takes precedence over the absolute devastation that the poor man who has lost his wife and daughters today will be feeling.

GruntledGoblin · 10/07/2024 16:01

A vile, cowardly act by yet another inadequate man. Horrendous. Those poor women, may they rest in peace.

Nanny0gg · 10/07/2024 16:04

3luckystars · 10/07/2024 14:55

I wouldn’t think badly of anyone saying they are his daughters, as he is well known. It’s like ‘Kate Garroways husband’ when he was in the news.

May they rest in peace. That poor man left behind. What a tragedy, God help them all.

And his surviving daughter...Sad

dottiehens · 10/07/2024 16:06

Very rude replies to just a simple opinion without any agenda from my part. I would wait for more details from the police. I am not keen on trial by social media but equally some people here are a bit unhinged.

LittleDeeAndME · 10/07/2024 16:06

That was a f**cking execution - the absolute terror for those women is unimaginable.

MorrisZapp · 10/07/2024 16:06

Fairyliz · 10/07/2024 15:44

How exactly is this murderer being sent to prison for say 20 years and being let out after 10 justice?
He will still be a young man and those young women have lost their whole life’s.

Murder carries a mandatory life sentence. This man has committed three, with aggravating circumstances.

He will not be out in ten years. The average single murderer serves 15 to 20 years.

Ambleen · 10/07/2024 16:06

This is a male crime and the only possible solution will be for men (all men) to create the culture where women are respected and not considered lesser.
Those poor women, unimaginable horror for them, and the sister knows she would have endured the same if present,

Thewheelweavesasthewheelwills · 10/07/2024 16:07

This makes me genuinely feel sick.

Those poor poor women I actually don't want to think of their fear because I am genuinely about to cry thinking about it. Before I get called too dramatic it is horrific and I am nearly 9 months pregnant.

All because of what a stupid silly f*cking prick who couldn't take rejection.

RIP to the ladies and deepest condolences to their husband/ father who, I can't even fathom how he is feeling. And all their other family and friends, this will be felt far and deep

StillProcrastinating · 10/07/2024 16:07

social media giants need to take some responsibility here for the dreadful misogyny promoted online. They will say it’s nothing to do with them, but they are allowing this culture to become seriously mainstream. It’s unbelievable. Tate and all his duplicates.

Brefugee · 10/07/2024 16:07

There is a mental health angle, of course. Because you have to be deranged to react with multiple murders to a woman telling you she wants to end the relationship.

wantmorenow · 10/07/2024 16:11

HoldingTheDoor · 10/07/2024 15:45

His neighbours had met him, they said he seemed a nice normal bloke. So I don't think that meeting someone is enough to state that they wouldn't commit an offence.

Or even being a family member. We recently had a family member of the paramedic who murdered his 22 year old partner claim that her Brother was a sweet guy who wouldn’t hurt a fly. So I don’t put much faith in the opinions of family, friends and neighbours yet it’s amazing how many claim that there were such nice guys when clearly they were about as far from nice as it gets. If murdering a woman isn’t enough to warrant you no longer being called a nice guy I don’t know what does.

This - the young woman murdered is my friend's daughter. She and her family bury her next week. Early coverage was all about him, his TV appearances, a pop star's tribute to him and his sister's loss. His victim barely mentioned.

Floopsy · 10/07/2024 16:12

To all those who have come here to NAMALT

Those women were tied up. They watched as their Mum/ daughter/ sister was shot with a crossbow. They heard her screams. They heard her plead with him. They watched him load up the crossbow, knowing the other would be shot next and then them. He left them to die. He could have called an ambulance, he could have untied them. He wanted to obliterate them.

Think what they went through in their final minutes before you sanctimoniously come onto Mumsnet and try to reason that not all men are like that. 98 women were murdered by men in 2023. 59% of them were murdered by a partner or ex-partner.

How many of us will hear the news that our daughter, sister, aunt, niece, friend, colleague has been killed? In three days' time another woman will be killed by a man and you can convince yourselves that it's not a problem.

Ilovelurchers · 10/07/2024 16:12

Roseyjane · 10/07/2024 14:27

Well they aren’t, do you know men who do this, I certainly don’t. Yes men kill as do women. Shit people are shit people. Irrelevant of gender. When we saw the recent case of women killing babies, little star to name one, did we say all women are awful. When we saw the woman charged with sexually abusing her pupils, did we say all women are awful. When we saw the woman abusing her partner and being sent to jail. Did we say fucking hell. Women are awful

no. Some men are awful as are some women.

The vast majority of violent crime IS carried out by men.

Yes, a small number of women are awful too. But a lot more men are.

If we fail to see acts like this as part of a wider picture of male violence against women, we yet again fail to be honest about the massive imbalance of power still prevalent globally.

And how can we change what we can't even admit to?
