Absolutely shocking. A 26 year old man named as Kyle Clifford, believed to be armed with a crossbow, is being sought by police.
The dead women are aged 61, 28 and 25.

So terrifying. There can be no punishment other than a whole of life sentence. The fear the women must have felt can’t even be imagined. I’m so sorry for their friends and family. How do you even attempt to move on from this.

Yeah. I know. You're replying to the wrong poster

It saved her life {most likely} -and spared her from a nasty rape.
Always worth fighting back with whatever is at one's disposal.

TakeOnFlea · 11/07/2024 00:03

I think you're being obtuse on purpose @oakleaffy

@CaveMum you should report your post.

Apologies, you’re right I shouldn’t have posted. I’ve asked for it to be deleted. I didn’t mean to offend anyone but it was unthinking on my part.

AutumnFroglets · 11/07/2024 00:05

Thank you for that link @CaveMum . The biggest bit I took away (after reading one posters disgusting comments) is:

It’s so easy to come up with all the different ways you would combat such a situation when you are sat in the comfort of your home, with nothing to fear.

CaveMum · 11/07/2024 00:06

@TakeOnFlea you might need to report your own post - as it’s not a direct quote of my original one it might not get automatically deleted.

BeardofHagrid · 11/07/2024 00:07

These terrible murders have really shocked me today. I just can’t believe it. A crossbow…it’s horrific. There are no words.

Some sobering stats here…

’A woman is killed by her male partner or former partner every four days in the UK England and Wales. In the year ending March 2019, the majority of defendants in domestic abuse-related prosecutions were men (92%), and the majority of victims were female (75%) (in 10% of cases the sex of the victim was not recorded)
(Source: ONS 2019)

In 2022/23, 13 men died at the hands of their partner or ex-partner compared to 56 women.
(Source: ONS 2022/23)

‘On average, (globally) more than 133 women or girls are killed every day by someone in their own family. Current and former intimate partners are by far the most likely perpetrators of femicide, accounting for an average of 55 per cent’.
(Source: https://www.unwomen.org/en/news-stories/feature-story/2022/11/five-essential-facts-to-know-about-femicide)

’Too many victims of femicide still go uncounted: for roughly four in ten intentional murders of women and girls, there is not enough information to identify them as gender-related killings because of national variation in criminal justice recording and investigation practices.’
(Source: https://www.unwomen.org/en/news-stories/feature-story/2022/11/five-essential-facts-to-know-about-femicide)

’Adjusted for total population size, the available data shows that, in 2022, 2.8 women and girls per 100,000 were killed by an intimate partner or family member in Africa; compared with 1.5 in the Americas; 1.1 in Oceania; 0.8 in Asia; and 0.6 in Europe.

It’s so very sad, tragic, shocking. My heart goes out to the women who were killed, and their family.

So very true. It's despicable to post some of this rubbish and so offensive to those women who could not fight back for very legitimate reasons.

The freeze response is a completely natural one to extreme terror and is not something you can just force yourself to override. No-one who goes into an automatic freeze response should be told after the fact that they should have just fought back. It's just so lacking in human feeling it's almost unbelievable.

Exactly, @MaidOfAle

I think what we're seeing here is a perfect illustration of Germaine Greer's observation that women can't afford to realise how much men hate them.

I can't dissociate this pointless murder of three women, Carol, Louise, and Hannah, from the spectre of male violence. Because that is what killed them.

Sadly, this is true.

Ages ago (early 2010s, I think) I read a blog post from a man who said that if men are honest, part of the anger and disgust they feel towards rapists is actually envy. He said that when he hears a woman has raped, part of him feels jealous that another man got to have sex with a woman without needing to seduce her first. In the comments, some men called him sick and said this wasn't common at all, but quite a few others admitted they felt the same way.

No, it's not all men, but it's more men than we'd like to think.

Foxlover46 · 11/07/2024 00:35

Victim
Blaming again , we can't know what those poor women went through before they were murdered , in the one place they are meant to be at their safest , their family home.
The only person to blame here is the scum who murdered them , how could anyone question "why they didn't try anything ?!"
Rest in peace , condolences to their poor dad / husband and surviving family members

Cremeroulety · 11/07/2024 00:38

MaidOfAle · 10/07/2024 21:45

When brown people are literally 19 times more likely to kill than white people, or fat people cost 19 times more than thin people, we'll discuss your proposal. Until then, you are comparing apples to oranges.

All men benefit from the actions of the murderers and abusers. All of them, even the ones who don't themselves abuse. Male violence deters women's participation in everything. A man tax isn't about guilt or collective punishment, but about redistributing the financial gain men get from women's violent oppression towards services that help the women who've suffered the worst of that oppression.

Edited

Agreed.

Another reason that’s a poor comparison is it’s literally false ; there are certain crimes that white people commit at a higher frequency than Asian or Black people for example.

Also if you control for socio-economic class some of the disparities between ethnicities for some crimes disappear totally so it’s not a black and white issue - pun unintended.

A nasty rape? Is there another type?

They were by my female relative -on her own and kilometres from anywhere.
No one within screaming distance. {South of France}

She fought back and marked the young man - see above.
Her instincts kicked in.
She thought she was going to be killed, but she marked him...and he got up and rode away. {Dirt track}

This relative travels widely alone.

This is dangerous. Fucking dangerous. This is how we die.

Despite traveling widely alone, it was still possible for my ex husband to overpower me, pick me up and throw me against walls, strangle me, and break three bones that cover my heart.

That isn't because I'm not plucky, I promise you I fought back just as hard as I could, and my goodness, I think I even marked him.

The reason he was able to was in fact the biological reality of the far superior strength of men, which we play down at our own risk.

We are all and are always in physical danger near men.

Anyone who considers shoving his dick into a sobbing woman to be "sex" should have it chopped off.

It also tells you that these men's idea of sex doesn't involve foreplay or intimacy or female pleasure, just using the woman as a masturbation sheath. If a guy wants to get off without any intimacy but doesn't want to use his hands, he should buy a fleshlight.

Greer was right, men really do hate women.

Oh those poor women, what a waste of 3 beautiful lives.

And, what a surprise, the suspect is the ex boyfriend of one of the victims. When is something going to be done to protect women and girls against this overwhelming amount of misogynistic violence perpetrated by inadequate men?

Yep, it's not all men, but it's a staggering proportion of them....

A staggering proportion?
Would you care to put a number on that, 80%? 50%? 10%? more like 0.1%

A terrible awful thing has been done to that family and you (and others) are using it as an example to illustrate and reinforce your anti male world view. Maybe the headline should be murdered by man, used by feminists?

TakeOnFlea · 11/07/2024 01:47

What's your problem @tamade? Proportionally it is staggeringly men who kill others, mainly women. Why don't you want that fact spoken?

6-15% of university-aged men will admit to acts meeting the criminal definition of rape as long as the word "rape" isn't used to describe their behaviours. And they repeat offend like crazy. And most will never be reported.

I mentioned the figure 1 in 3 women globally. Here's the World Health Organization on violence against women:

Across their lifetime, 1 in 3 women, around 736 million, are subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner or sexual violence from a non-partner – a number that has remained largely unchanged over the past decade.

Devastatingly pervasive: 1 in 3 women globally experience violence (who.int)

Devastatingly pervasive: 1 in 3 women globally experience violence

Violence against women remains devastatingly pervasive and starts alarmingly young, shows new data from WHO and partners.
