Absolutely shocking. A 26 year old man named as Kyle Clifford, believed to be armed with a crossbow, is being sought by police.
The dead women are aged 61, 28 and 25.

It is sobering to think even if happily married that every man is capable of killing.

I recommend "my lover, my killer" on netflix. Very sad.

I don’t post very often but I am truly sickened by some of the posts on here, This is a truly dreadful event but no good comes from class blame. By far the overwhelming majority of men are decent caring and considerate people. The only way we can ever root out those who are not is to accept this truth.

I do not hate men, nor do I believe we should blame all men for the actions of a few like this one. I think individuals should be held accountable for their own personal actions and don't believe in the concept of collective guilt.

I fully believe that there are good men; I have a husband and a son and a brother and a father, so I would be in a very bad way if I hated and distrusted all men.

But I want men to fully live up to the trust that we place in them, and proactively demonstrate they are our allies. I want to know and be reassured that they are all sickened by crimes like this and utterly and unequivocally condemn them, that they are at pains to disassociate themselves from the toxic masculinity & the misogyny and cowardice that underpins them. I want that to be what they focus on every time women are victimised yet again; not whataboutery, NAMALT, victim blaming.

I do appreciate that many of them do; but really, not nearly enough and not consistently enough. It needs to be the default.

It’s an increasing problem though and many “decent” men are being influenced by what they see on social media and online. I was having a discussion with my male colleague, who is absolutely lovely otherwise but he is reading and being convinced by stuff online that argues that women being killed by men is a result of feminism. This is someone who never expressed such opinions before. Men that actually go ahead and kill are increasingly being reinforced and encouraged by written material online written by men (and women) would never kill but have become apologists for those that do.

Posters (such as those in the thread) can’t help but react to the changing situation. Here in Sydney, we had a mass stabbing at a shopping centre recently and it was obvious to everyone that the perpetrator had targeted women. There was a similar outpouring of fear and anger among women here and a wake up call in relation to the changed environment driven by social media.

Not so happily married but were fairly happy.

My cousin and her police officer husband - thankfully now ex.

She confronted him about cheating - and he later got her alone and throttled her almost to the point of death.

I resent seeing that wanker in my wedding day photos.

I'd like to know why I could immediately order a fatally effective crossbow from amazon to be delivered tomorrow?!

What the fuck? Is that not considered a dangerous weapon?!

You can order a machete from Amazon despite only being needed to chop down undergrowth.

MaidOfAle · 10/07/2024 21:45

TheBerry · 10/07/2024 21:41

We should also probably have a fat people tax then, even for fat people with no current medical conditions, since obesity is the biggest strain on the NHS.

Let’s also have an ethnic minority tax, even for people who have committed no crimes, because ethnic minorities are responsible for proportionally more crimes than white people.

The taxes should definitely be levied on entire groups of people, irrespective of individuals’ levels of involvement.

When brown people are literally 19 times more likely to kill than white people, or fat people cost 19 times more than thin people, we'll discuss your proposal. Until then, you are comparing apples to oranges.

All men benefit from the actions of the murderers and abusers. All of them, even the ones who don't themselves abuse. Male violence deters women's participation in everything. A man tax isn't about guilt or collective punishment, but about redistributing the financial gain men get from women's violent oppression towards services that help the women who've suffered the worst of that oppression.

God, this is awful.

The bbc coverage is all "wife of john hunt..." - so even in death, these women have to be defined by a man. One update says, "the women have been named as Carol Hunt, wife of John Hunt, and their daughters".

This subtle, constant, referencing to women only in the context of a man is part of the problem

Three women were killed today by a man. The three women are related to a man who is slightly famous.

Those poor women. I can't even imagine what they must have gone through.

I think you are completely wrong about that and it's a bit crass and disrespectful to be picking apart news reports looking for imagined misogyny angles to complain about, when there is more than enough misogyny in this absolutely appalling crime already.

Their identities were always going to be made public so it's unrealistic to think the media could report on this while failing to acknowledge who the husband/father is.

He wasn't mentioned because he is a man, but because his minor celebrity means that many people will feel they know him. Things like this are always shocking and awful to hear about, but even more shocking and awful when you know, or feel connected in some way to the victims or their families.

You must surely know that had the victims been the family of a woman on the tv or radio, then the story would have been reported in exactly the same way.

Neverenoughfor · 10/07/2024 21:47

Roseyjane · 10/07/2024 14:27

Well they aren’t, do you know men who do this, I certainly don’t. Yes men kill as do women. Shit people are shit people. Irrelevant of gender. When we saw the recent case of women killing babies, little star to name one, did we say all women are awful. When we saw the woman charged with sexually abusing her pupils, did we say all women are awful. When we saw the woman abusing her partner and being sent to jail. Did we say fucking hell. Women are awful

no. Some men are awful as are some women.

exactly! Most men are good the same as women.

Also to bring up the tongue in cheek comment about aborting male babies - but where is the outrage from these posters in locations where due to family planning, female babies HAVE been aborted or worse, killed soon after birth simply because of the basis of their sex?

Because thats not a hypothetical - it was very much a reality!

take your NAMALT excuses and ply them elsewhere.

This makes me think of the mass shooters in my country, the US.
99.999% are male.
Out of all of them, I think only one was female.
I didn’t google it because I didn’t want to remind myself of the sickening statistics.

edit: spelling

I think it's probably more accurate to say that most men are complacent.

Willsean · 10/07/2024 21:51

It is obviously horrific and the suffering of these innocent women is the first concern. The fact thay this is violence against women by a man who wants his own way is despicable.

It's also perfectly acceptable to be concerned about and feel for those left behind in such a heartless incident; in this case a poor man (father and husband) and the couple's other daughter, the poor sister of those young women.

Fuck off with this pathetic victim blaming.

This.

Women make mostly-satirical suggestions that we abort male foetuses: outrage!

Baby girls ACTUALLY, not hypothetically, buried alive and selectively aborted in India: crickets.

The newborn in hospital

India newborn girl found in shallow grave 'fighting for life'

The baby girl found buried alive in a clay pot is in a critical condition, her doctor tells the BBC.

If most men are lovely, and a few "bad apples" give them all a bad name, then those bad apples should stand out like a sore thumb. All men should be able to tell pretty quickly which men are fundamentally different from the rest of the lovely, kind, caring men.

Except... they blend right in. Because all those "lovely" men are also telling the awful jokes, and making misogynistic comments, and generally providing cover for the murderers and rapists and abusers in the name of "locker room banter".

All the other NAMALT men need to step up, sacrifice their right to this bullshit banter nonsense, and just start behaving in a genuinely respectful manner, sending the message to the rotten ones that society simply will not tolerate their behaviour.

Absolutely right.
Tell her to trust her instincts- They are there for a reason.
If she feels in any way unsure of anyone- Man or woman- listen hard to those feelings.

Never stick with a man who controls or raises his hand or throws stuff.
I had two friends as a younger woman who dated violent men.

But they returned to these vile specimens time after time after time.

It was ridiculous. One of them broke free- but the other..I'd guess she is still with him, despite him tampering with the brakes on her mother's car and putting her in hospital.

I can't understand why women stay with men like this. One was free from him for years and went back and had children with him.

So utterly depressing. But it was her choice! ''I love him'' was all she'd say.

But that is why he killed them.

Because she broke up with him...

What I don't understand is why he shot himself 24 hours after he committed this heinous crime. What was he doing all night and where was he?!

Exactly. Leaving is incredibly dangerous - it's life threatening.

Unfortunately this vile POS will probably get quite a light sentence because it will no doubt be these poor women's fault for making him do it 😞

Bloody stupid comment. Of course he won't get a light sentence. He murdered 3 women in cold blood ffs

Biggleslefae · 10/07/2024 22:05

Continuing the analogy . . . the bad apples are now in a much larger barrel and can collaborate on a worldwide scale with all other apples who might be prone to going bad.

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 10/07/2024 22:05

Charlize43 · 10/07/2024 22:04

Women can be awful too... also in the news.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd1ed10x9zno

Seriously? You seriously used this to point score?

If there was an epidemic of women murdering men, motivated by hate and entitlement, a pattern of violence sustained over decades and decades, maybe you'd have a point. But there isn't.

This case is one murder, committed by someone having (from the sound of it) a serious mental health crisis.

Everyone knows that female murderers are really rare, so why are some people so invested in claiming that there is equivalence here?
