Projectme… thank you, I appreciate your comment.

If you're going to thread police go do it in the actual thread so the rest of us don't have to read it.

Agreed MattDamon. Most people are just expressing their condolences. The ones makimg the thread ghoulish are you @Preparetoturnright and@ASighMadeOfStone

Cattyisbatty · 09/06/2024 15:56

So true @RedToothBrush you’ve pretty much summed up my thoughts on it all.

I've no doubt that some people like this exist but there are many of us who are genuinely sad. He's a man I've admired for years. I've followed his health advice since my cancer diagnosis. His advice was refreshingly simple and easy to follow. I've listened to his podcasts and programmes, I did the 5:2 diet and have done intermittent fasting for years.
He was a very familiar and likeable figure to many people. He made a difference to many people's lives. It's unfair to say people are ghoulish for taking an interest in this.

Very nicely put SallyWD.

People are calling it out as there is multiple other threads on this another one was needed just to be the first to announce someone has died.

I didn’t even notice how many thread there are, will make a note to make an extensive check before posting on the first one I saw.

BlankTimes · 09/06/2024 16:40

Such a wonderful man who de-mystified so much medical science for ordinary people.
He was passionate about letting people know they could take control of their own health and he was always ready to do the things he advocated for and demonstrated their success. Thank you Michael Mosely, I first started listening to you when you advocated for IF and the 5:2 diet.
You have changed the lives and health of countless people for the better.

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2024 16:43

Interesting watching the BBC news earlier.

When at an event, he had a bunch of people queuing for him. Not to get his autograph but to simply say thank you for changing their lives.

Few people inspire like that. Very few.

Most of them were on trending you can't miss them, but this was originally posted in AIBU and my original response yes the OP was being unreasonable.

SuperGinger · 09/06/2024 16:54

Poor man, my thoughts are with his wife, four children and friends.

alrightluv · 09/06/2024 17:06

I'm genuinely upset. It's awful 😔

Howbizarre22 · 09/06/2024 17:09

And yet everything we've been told suggests that's exactly what he did.

How do you know confidently that 'we don't know the full story'? people, even very intelligent people, do stupid things. Someone said on one of the threads that you can set out for a walk, take the wrong path and all of a sudden you're in a situation you can't handle and didn't prepare for. What, exactly, is the conspiracy to theorise about here? pretty distastefully, I might add, seeing as the man has just been found and his family must be distraught.

MidnightMeltdown · 09/06/2024 17:19

How incredibly sad, especially as he was so close to help. Truly awful way to go. His work has helped and inspired so many, he will be remembered.

He left the beach, alone, at 1:30pm on Wednesday, the hottest part of the day. Sadly, this is the last lesson from him. It's easy to underestimate the heat, especially if you aren't used to it. However prepared you think you are, it can be extremely dangerous.

Funnily enough....

This has just been published by the Mail

Now footage found by the Agia Marina beach restaurant has shown him gingerly picking his way down a slope close to a fence then falling out of view at 3.44pm last Wednesday - two hours and 15 minutes after he left the St Nicholas restaurant.

It remains unclear whether he was trying to reach the water for a swim or trying to get back to the jetty where he could have picked up a boat to Pedi or Symi.
In the footage, he is not seen to get up and a customer is shown walking past the kiosk who could potentially have heard had there been any shout for help.

A coroner has now said an initial examination had ruled out foul play as there were 'no obvious injuries' to Dr Mosley's body - yet further tests would have to be carried out at a hospital in Rhodes to firmly establish the cause of death.

A spokesman for the coroner said: 'It looks like it was a fall but we need establish whether he had a medical episode before that and it will take time.'

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/06/2024 17:24

I'm not seeing anything in that article that suggests anything other than heatstroke/catastrophic fall and/or medical episode.

StopStartStop · 09/06/2024 17:29

It's not a 'truly awful way to go.'
A sudden, unexpected death without long-term suffering is a blessing.
I hope there hasn't been any 'foul play'. I hope he died quickly and simply.

oakleaffy · 09/06/2024 17:30

A tragedy. He seemed a lovely, humane, kind man.

We watched his ''Parasites'' TV series, where he infected himself with a tapeworm which he grew in his own gut..It gave him a craving for sweets and chocolate.

It was a very funny and witty watch- he was revolted by it.

When it was got rid of, he lay next to it on the grass in his back garden- a great sport and a good sense of humour.

Rest in Peace, Dr, Mosley. 🙏

I agree here. It’s just a tragic accident. He thought it was a shorter walk than the one he took, took a wrong turn and fell.

There’s no foul play here, he wasn’t attacked, he didn’t end his life. He could’ve had a heart attack or something else sickness related. No conspiracy theory at all.

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2024 17:37

Accidents tend to happen when a series of errors occur and even the best of plans start to fail. At the time the points seem small but events spiral.

For example, you plan to leave at 9am, but you are delayed by something. Then some one has a minor injury. They trip so you stop for longer than planned to sort it out. Two of your group return but the rest of your group carry on. You don't realise that they have taken something crucial with them. You are now behind schedule. Your plan was to make the most of the weather before it turns later in the day. So you run into the bad weather. Instead of turning back soon as its starting to look bad, you get what they call 'summit fever' where the goal of getting to the top overrules other sensibilities. By now you are really behind schedule and the weather has got bad. You then descend. You've been out longer than you planned so you are more tired than anticipated. You start to make bad decisions as a result. You try and 'take a short cut' and find the terrian isn't as easy as your thought it would be. It turns out not to be a short cut but takes you longer than expected. You now realise you are in trouble. You are no longer on your planned route down. You didn't think theyd be an issue so you haven't set a time at which your friends should start to get concerned. This is where you need the crucial bit of kits your friends have. But obviously you don't have it. You start to become hypothermic. Your cognitive ability starts to fall. Even if you are experienced or intelligent your brain is no longer capable of making decisions that you would normally rationally make. Your friends raise the alarm but since you didn't stick to the plan they look in the wrong place to try and find you.

Its a known pattern. Enough to be in numerous books about various accidents in the hills and mountains.

Its known that extremes of heat cause loss of cognitive ability. They cause other medical emergencies.

My aunt dropped dead of an aneurysm as she walked into the kitchen to fetch something. One minute there, next minute gone. I'll take that as an ending over some I might have.

Yes I also saw the really good post about this yesterday or this morning on the other MM thread you and I are both on.

I can’t remember the ‘official’ name of this phenomenon the poster used, but it’s then your Plan A becomes an unintended Plan B as it goes off course with a succession of unintended and intended ‘tweaks’.

whatnnoww · 09/06/2024 17:52

His wife has said he was an adventurous man and that was part of what made him special . This time his adventure went wrong , but he wouldn’t have made such an impact on the world without that kind of spirit and nerve to push boundaries . My condolences to his wife and family .

Similar in ways to what’s known in some circles as the Swiss Cheese model of accident causation.

Accidents often happen due to an alignment of small errors or actions, perhaps over a period of time, rather than being down to one major foul up.
