As the others have said though, he was English, so they have deported him back here.

This one was born in Britain and is a British citizen. Moved to Aus when he was about 5 and never relinquished his British citizenship. Hence they can send him back. And if the roles were reversed, we'd send him back there.

for the same reason that the UK deports foreign nationals back to their country of origin after they have served their prison sentence here.

Apparently we do. Aussie spokeswoman on radio earlier sounded a bit annoyed at why it was being questioned given that (a) he's a brit and (b) the UK does exactly the same. I'm sure another one won't matter

It seems a strange thing to do, given that he's been there since he was 5 rather than emigrating as an adult.

I dunno, I suppose I feel it's a case of he was in their education system, all his records throughout his life are there - it's what he's always known. So, they've never been able to keep tabs on him, or spot early warning signs or deal with early warning signs. So, now, rather than waste their time and resources, they'll pack him off to the country he was born in.

And actually wasn't there a similar story recently of someone who had come to this country as a child, who had committed crimes as an adult and was being deported? The human rights brigade were up in arms about it iirc.

Why are you defending him CD? In my book he is NOT British, just as my Austrailian cousins who were 5 and 2 when left the UK, are not British - they DO NOT class themselves as British.
