People have short memories..

So many of the same posters demanding restrictions.

What a pity for dc.

EasternStandard · 30/11/2023 20:26

Sturgeon was better though. Shutting nurseries so women could stress some more

And Drakeford with draconian measures and ‘circuit breakers’

Way better results and lower harms 🤔

I promised myself I wouldn't get involved, but fuck it.

Are you saying you recognise the usernames of posters on this thread and they are the exact same posters demanding restrictions, on Covid threads from 2 to 3 years ago?

Sure why not?

What I was saying then was not welcome and they tend to quote a lot 🤷‍♂️ some are still going.

Some of those posters that they remember weren't even on mumsnet 2-3 years ago.
Much like Hancock in his evidence today, facts are not that important. Much more important to tell everyone that you were right and no one would listen to you.

EasternStandard · 30/11/2023 20:34

It’s pretty simple, adults let fears override perception of damage to dc

It’ll take time for everyone to stop being defensive and eventually someone will ask how did parents etc go along with that?

They can just read mn, it’s insightful on why

I am not sure that it was the Prime Minister, Health Secretary and others fears that meant that they ignored the damage they were doing to children.
I would suggest it had far more to do with their inability to consider anything more complicated than the next newspaper headline.

minou123 · 30/11/2023 20:48

Because if it was the exact same posters and you have such a brilliantly memory, you would be very quick to start quoting exactly which posters on this thread you remember.

I think you are still very cross about arguments you had on threads from 2 to 3 years ago.

You are desperate to say "I told you so", but those posters have long gone or are not on this thread.
So, instead you are now attaching arguments/opinions to posters who were not involved.

Its fine. If it makes you feel better, carry on.

VimtoVimto · 30/11/2023 20:49

In March 2020 I feel there were very few people who opposed lockdown especially as it was an unknown virus, and the reports from Italy and to some extent Spain were frightening. At the time no one expected it to be as long lasting as it was. I was in all honesty expecting to fly to Italy in June of that year.

I think with later lockdowns the government were basically hoping for the best so they postponed it until the stage it became necessary to do it for longer than if they had applied a circuit breaker.

bombastix · 30/11/2023 20:53

@minou123 Eastern Standard is ready to pounce on my opinions to tell me that won't age well now! That's on migration. So count yourself lucky. I am getting a "I will tell you so" from the future.

You cannot win!

EasternStandard · 30/11/2023 20:55

I’m not ‘cross’ about arguments. I mean some were pretty committed to hounding and imo poor all round (maybe afraid) but there you go, that’s what happens if you speak up. Yes I’m sure some have buggered off as the site was flooded as it is when a topic becomes dominant

My main point is I think it was a hugely successful campaign that you could see the results of on here

It meant damage to dc was overridden by heightened risk perception by adults

It was sad at the time. People will look back and question why it so successfully minimised those harms and this site is a record of it

Hmm I didn’t realise ‘it won’t age well’ was that cutting..

It won’t btw

But if that’s stuck with you I mean ok 😳

Are you trying to tell me that the risks to my dc were greater from lockdown than from covid and that you knew that in March 2020?

Campaign from the government, so why not start putting the blame theri rather than on random MN posters

What are your thoughts on Hancock's evidence today?

EasternStandard · 30/11/2023 21:02

Because it was obvious and adults should have remembered dc more

jgw1 · 30/11/2023 21:05

EasternStandard · 30/11/2023 21:02

It appears from today's evidence that during a pandemic the Prime Minister didn't remember he had a Health Secretary who should have been expert on health matters, and that Health Secretary was happy to admit that he hadn't remembered to read important briefing documents. Its not really a surprise that they didn't remember children even though they have many of their own.

bombastix · 30/11/2023 21:06

I know you don't read the Guardian @EasternStandard but you should give it a go! It's got that "I should be running things vibe" which you could get with even if the overall coverage is not to your political taste.

You will forgive a little fun. You can be quite the Cassandra

Not really. I’m positive hence not freaking out over Covid as much as others. The heightened risk thing didn’t work so well on me

And practically Pollyanna when it comes to The Guardian and mn generally so no thanks.

It’s not just me saying what I do btw if anyone has the time to listen to in depth coverage (usually radio)

Right.

So, you don't recognise the usernames of posters on this thread and they are not the exact same posters from 2 to 3 years ago.

They way you have been going on, this thread and the previous one, I thought you genuinely had remembered certain posters and were rehashing arguments you had with them from 2020/2021.

I get it. You were a lone voice on certain covid threads and certain posters behaved poorly.
But that wasn't anyone on this thread.

How do you know that?

Of course some names are the same

I see we are back to 'I was the only person who cared about children' again Hmm
