It's looking a bit suspicious to say the least! Such a shame to see a lovely old building reduced to a pile of bricks.

Drunk as soon as you walked through the door 😂

ajandjjmum · 11/08/2023 10:40

@SoupDragon
You felt drunk before you'd had a sip of your lemonade! Grin
Just been taking to a colleague @Sluj and she was talking about her DH dropping a tray of drinks - obviously happened a lot.

Never heard of the pub in Kilburn - hopefully our local councillors will look into this, and how it's rebuild was enforced.

How interesting, I have looked up the Carlton Tavern Kilburn and it seems it was demolished the day before the listing was to take effect.
That means there is a precedent for an owner having to rebuild a building that is not actually listed.
The Crooked House won’t have been as far down the road to listing, but still….

SoupDragon · 11/08/2023 11:30

I've just looked up the Carlton Tavern and the rebuild is indistinguishable from the original! I hope it cost them loads to do.

SirChenjins · 11/08/2023 11:46

Really interesting Wikipedia about it - does mean there is a precedent? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlton_Tavern

If you look on Google maps you can go through the dates and see it pre demolition and the re build.

I hope they have to scrape the mortar from each individual brick.

Ohhh, that was really interesting ! And they did a fantastic job of it.

That timeline is so interesting.

@VimtoPassion it has been wonky for probably 100 years. It was only unsafe after the fire.

CurlyTandtheTangles · 11/08/2023 15:04

If that Times article is correct then they really are feckless knobbers

Brilliant 🤣🤣

There’s brilliant footage from a 1974 Nationwide programme showing the inside of the pub and things rolling upwards here https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-66442053

I feel slightly nauseous!

ShazzaF · 11/08/2023 16:41

My mom used to spend a lot of time in this pub in her youth!

What I find most upsetting about this whole thing is that they obviously knew full well how dodgy it would all look, but seem to consider themselves beyond reproach. I hope they turn out to be wrong and they do face consequences, but I won't hold my breath Sad

oakleaffy · 11/08/2023 16:54

The old video is amazing!
What a complete tragedy such a quirky and interesting old property has been trashed by greedy soulless twats.
I hope they are investigating these chancers.

EvenlyDetermined · 11/08/2023 17:21

That’s a great video.

Have been following this. It’s about time people like this get investigated.

People like whom???

Who needs investigating?

RudsyFarmer · 11/08/2023 17:45

I cannot stand the mindset of the people that decimate wildlife that’s protected but inconvenient. Hack down trees with protective orders and demolish history that is worthless to them. It gives me a surprisingly strong rage.

RTFT and all will become clear

Ifeelsuchflutterings · 11/08/2023 17:56

They must have taken their cue from Walsall, where multiple historic buildings have burnt down only to be followed amazingly quickly by development plans

CandyflossKaren · 11/08/2023 18:01

@blacksax no thanks, I'm on a break, can't be arsed

So why come on a thread if you can't be bothered to read it.

Everything is in the title and OP and further information in the posts.

If we type it all out for you again it'll still take you as long to read it WinkGrin
