It's looking a bit suspicious to say the least! Such a shame to see a lovely old building reduced to a pile of bricks.

It couldn't be a more obvious insurance job than if they put up a big billboard advertising it with dancers and a brass band.

Rainbowshit · 10/08/2023 12:02

It's an utter fucking disgrace. They should be forced to put it back brick by brick exactly how it was. So angry.

theemmadilemma · 10/08/2023 12:02

So very fishy. The insurance company must be looking at this with a magnifying glass.

Yes, this too. No respect for history.

Soubriquet · 10/08/2023 12:04

I do hope they repair it like the time a pub was demolished to make way for housing and the were told to rebuild it brick by brick exactly how it was. The pub had been standing since the Second World War

Especially the unauthorised demolition the day after. Hiding the evidence or what?!🤔

Hope the little spaniel who can detect 10 different accelerents solves the 'mystery'.

lifeturnsonadime · 10/08/2023 12:05

It was just about to get listed status. I've been there, albeit a while ago as I live fairly locally to it.

It's a disgrace.

BCBird · 10/08/2023 12:06

The conversations floating around in the local area are all saying this.

SirChenjins · 10/08/2023 12:07

Agree - I hope the pair of charmers who own this are made to rebuild it as it was and not profit in any way, shape or form from whatever plans their limited brains had for it. Apparently the fire engines couldn't get to it because the road was blocked with mounds of earth. Dodgy AF.

VinEtFromage · 10/08/2023 12:10

Definitely as dodgy as fuck.

you can't rebuild its character. Bastards shouldn't profit from it & id be happy seeing them do some times behind bars.

FrenchandSaunders · 10/08/2023 12:13

THey've wrecked another pub haven't they.

Yet the demolition team could get access the very next day.
That's not at all dodgy.Hmm

That was my first thought.

Absolutely!

Even before the suspiciously speedy demolition it was clear.

I wonder whether they booked the demolition team in advance? 😂

SirChenjins · 10/08/2023 12:22

Surely they must have known this wasn't going to go well for them? Or were they hoping to get away with a slapped wrist and a bit of a fine before they submitted plans for some new development as is usually the way of these dodgy AF mysterious fires?

Tell us more (without getting MN into libel problems).

Gilmorehill · 10/08/2023 12:24

Surely if the owners have caused the fire, insurance won't pay up and it will never be rebuilt. If they did indeed do that, I hope they get a hefty prison sentence.

sparklefresh · 10/08/2023 12:26

They blocked the roads so the fire brigade couldn't get in and save it. Absolutely disgusting.

If you want a new build buy a fucking new build, don't ruin a historical building.

justabigdisco · 10/08/2023 12:27

I am local. I don’t think it’s insurance - more to do with the fact that it’s on a massive site (the owners already own the land next door) and they probably would never have been given permission to knock it down, even though it wasn’t actually listed. Now it’s gone they can use the whole site for alternative use without the inconvenience of a much loved local landmark

Agree. It is such a terrible thing to have done, that beautiful little building, still there from the eighteenth century .

Agree. Are you local too? I remember visiting the pub when I was little, I can't believe someone destroyed it with greed and stupidity

PangramAddict · 10/08/2023 12:29

It's not an insurance job, they want the site to access their business next door. I don't know how they thought they'd get away with it!

MissPettigrewIsWFH · 10/08/2023 12:31

They hired the demolition equipment the week before.... or are they psychic?

Dodgy as anything and they should be made to rebuild it out of the own pockets. If they aren't help to account then the whole thing stinks and will only encourage others to do the same.

He/she is lovely and so cute in their little booties

As for the pub, I was taken there on a date donkey's years ago. It was great fun, such a shame what's happened.
