4 young children stabbed in Annecy

I looked for a thread on this but couldn't see one.

I'm absolutely shocked and sickened at this attack on these helpless babies.

I can't imagine what the mother/minder of the baby who was stabbed multiple times in their pushchair is feeling and I so hope the two babies who are critical pull through.

Just awful :( :(

Reading these kinds of stories really affect me. I have a 3.5 yr old and a 18month old and I just want to scoop them up and protect them forever.

i was there yesterday. I had an appointment at the prefecture which is right next to this park- i nearly decided to move it to today because a road closure was making me late…. For some reason i didn’t. After the prefecture we were in that park for 2 hours, we ate lunch where he was running from gendarmes, my children were playing on the slide from the video… it’s a super safe place, i left my 15 month old in their pram asleep at the side of the park whilst the other two played- all i can think now is if i had decided to go today it would be a totally different story.

@sathletdown thank god you didn't change your appointment. It is a lovely place, it felt very safe until today. Hopefully it will continue to feel so, random attacks are just that. Be kind to yourself, it's a shock you've had xx

I'm sorry the gunman didn't aim a little bit higher.

I hope the bastard is subject to the wrath of many fathers while he's in jail & I hope he's there for a fucking long time.

GraysPapaya · 09/06/2023 00:00

@Utahthecat she lives near Marseille. She was fairly moderate politically when she lived here! There’s a real right wing surge there now.

PrincessFiorimonde · 09/06/2023 00:04

Unspeakably awful.

caringcarer · 09/06/2023 01:23

On the news it said he had been rejected for asylum in Sweden and then applied and was rejected 4 days ago by France so just decided to attack babies. He's a sicko and I hope he is behind bars for a very long time. I think we need to do background checks on asylum seekers as many apply in multiple countries and countries should share intelligence about past crimes.

caringcarer · 09/06/2023 01:38

@SheSeIIsSeaShells how on earth do you know all of those bible quotes? It's quite impressive.

Florissante · 09/06/2023 06:51

I am not buying the mental health angle.

SunnyEgg · 09/06/2023 06:55

I am not buying the mental health angle.

From previous post on applications rejected it could just be a violent man who felt wronged

Mental illness quickly asserted on this seems a cop out

Some people seem more concerned about the attacker than the poor people who suffered from his actions

Me neither.

He was simply deranged

Just googled child killings in the bible.
I have read the Bible cover to cover but that was 35 years ago and I don't have it memorised.

No one is more concerned about the attacker than the people stabbed. Straw man fallacy.

Absolutely nobody on this thread has expressed any concern or sympathy for the attacker.
Those of us who have said he must have MH issues to do such a thing have at no point said it’s a justification.

SunnyEgg · 09/06/2023 09:08

Not sure about that. Rushing to claim mental illness and first posts on racism concerns over other issues

The most upsetting part is what happened to the children, and victims

Just horrendous

Just makes you wonder what on earth motivated him to do this?

If he genuinely thought Jesus wanted him to do it, then surely he has mental health problems

I’m reading through this thread and this jumped out at me.

You think him claiming to be murdering in the name of Jesus Christ is the thing that earmarks him as having potential mental health problems? Not the fact that he’s stabbing babies in prams?!!! Sorry but that just made me want to say ‘doh!!!!!’ 🤦🏻‍♀️

it’s well known that in times of anger/distress /mental health crises women tend to hurt themselves and men tend to hurt others. It’s pretty clear he thinks he has nothing left to live for so he took it out on the local people who had the temerity to reject him through their government.

No one on this thread has said otherwise.

It’s about priority, if immediate concern are other issues

Up to people how they feel, I don’t share that but we’re all different

You're either misunderstanding or purposely misrepresenting what people have said if you think "Some people seem more concerned about the attacker than the poor people who suffered from his actions"

SunnyEgg · 09/06/2023 09:40

The quick leap to he has a mental illness is problematic for me, people can’t know this so I’m not sure why it is said so readily

The first posts on racism concerns also seemed to focus on a lower priority issue

Although there were no racist posts on this thread anyway

LangsNot · 09/06/2023 10:52

I believe the first posts that made it about the attacker and immigration problems rather than focusing on the victims and what they've gone through have caused some people to defend what they see as racist. You can't blame those who've responded to that.

There's a time and place to play politics, using tragedy to do so is distasteful and this is the problem.

Haven't seen a separate thread for that discussion so far so is it really a genuine concern?

Just horrendous

I have the mental capacity to be able to feel horrible about a tragedy and sad for the victims, and call out racist tones in commenting on the perpetrator.

I'm sorry that you don't possess such an ability.

That’s lovely, I’m glad your superiority quotient has been filled on this day for you.

Which posts do you mean exactly?

Feel free to call them out. When asked the op said there weren’t actually any.

I hope you go onto posts about mothers killing their children with this same energy when every other poster is bending over backwards with 'poor woman, mental health, where was the father? It's his fault'.

There weren’t were there?
People were being very careful after a previous post on the same subject got deleted very quickly.
Personally I find not being racist is better than being careful not to be perceived as being racist but we’re all different
