What was going on! A crash in which 2 teens are killed and then a riot, with cops in full gear and shields and teens chucking rocks?

Electric bikes and scooters are a real issue and they seem to be silent? So the chances of being mown down are quite high.

It's tragic what's happened but I think these bikes should be banned it makes me nervous I've seen a few lads on them in our area and I'm worried they will kill some innocent child, elderly or vulnerable person they have no regard for road safety they have been driving them up on the pavements no safety gear on either.
I have sadly seen the damage and mental anguish it has caused to family when a loved one has been involved in a motorised bike and a pedestrian collusion.

Couldn't agree more.

Strange feeling in Cardiff today. I was living in London after Mark Dugan was killed, that time felt like anything could happen.

I’m about a mile from there. It’s a huge estate, very deprived, but lots of families who have lived there for years, so a close community. It will impact huge numbers of people.

Nancy " I was living in London after Mark Dugan was killed, that time felt like anything could happen. "

me too. Air thick with tension. Sorry for everyone.

Locally there's a real issue with teenagers on electric bikes and scooters basically playing chicken with motor vehicles, being an anti social nuisance and being drug dealers.

Because of this, the assumption in the 'community' was that the local lads that tragically lost their lives was somehow linked to police action for the above issues so when the police turned up all blue lights flashing it took a very short amount of time for the rumour mill to kick in and for the local thugs to make their thoughts about the police well known. The police were absolutely not involved in the initial incident where the lads lost their lives.

In the meantime, the real community of Ely which is generally decent are terrorised by these teenage/young adult thugs on their own doorstep with the escalation of their property being damaged because the police dared to turn up for a fatal road collision. Plus the poor parents of the lads who lost their lives having to deal with the extra grief of knowing their child was nearby and left in an undignified manner because it wasn't safe for the emergency services to relocate them.

All public transport for the area was cancelled too so anyone needing to get into the city for work will have needed to walk a fair distance to do so.

100% this. :-(

ReformedWaywardTeen · 24/05/2023 07:01

I think those rioting are a disgrace.

Two teens on an illegal, souped up bike going 50mph+, no helmets on either.

What are the police meant to do? Ignore it?
They could've killed someone else instead.

And why burn people's things who are nothing to do with it? Utterly disgraceful behaviour.

I'm no great supporter of the police but in this case they were doing their job. The responsibility for the deaths of those two individuals rests with the victims and whoever was stupid enough to buy them a dangerous, law breaking bike.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/05/2023 18:06

Just seen how those kids were riding, completely recklessly.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/05/2023 18:07

They could have easily killed someone else as well as them selves.

Alan987 · 24/05/2023 19:40

Deprived area is no reason to target the police for these kids causing a fatal accident, and how can they afford an electric bike , can't be that deprived an area.

JenniferBooth · 24/05/2023 20:42

We have them riding these around our town centre They are a bloody menace

Unihorn · 24/05/2023 20:50

South Wales Police are not a popular police force for many reasons, and many residents of Ely would be anti-police. See the recent Newport crash when everyone aimed hatred at SWP and Gwent Police for a perceived lack of action, and Swansea last year when tons smashed up the place.

As usual the media has not helped the situation, forgetting that police officers are human beings underneath the uniform.

Watch the video on BBC news. The police said no police vehicles were on the road in question. They lied.

The van was half a mile from the crash site when they died.....

ilovebrie8 · 25/05/2023 09:12

Those bikes are dangerous and a nuisance ...where did they get the cash for that bike they are v expensive!

D R U G S , there's numerous pictures of them smoking spliffs so yeah they ran because they probably had drugs to sell On a hugely powered ebike with no protective gear, are the police not supposed to uphold the law?. Parents to blame here for being shit not the police.

Police chase ok it wasn't even an ebike it was an emotorbike they were underage no protective gear going at least 45 mph on a residential street 20 zone. On this video the police were 17 seconds behind going slowly no lights fuck off was it a police chase. Imagine if two children were playing out and got ran over by them twats.

ilovebrie8 · 25/05/2023 09:39

@Meixo i agree! I saw a pic of one of them in a Canada goose jacket they are mega expensive no way could a 15 year old afford that. This isn’t the fault of the police ...

CornishGem1975 · 25/05/2023 09:42

The mum of one now saying 'The police killed my boy".

No, no they didn't.

Cat2014 · 25/05/2023 09:42

Some of the comments on social media are a disgrace about these lads. They were children. Parents are grieving their sons. RIP Kyrees and Harvey.

ReformedWaywardTeen · 25/05/2023 09:44

It's the usual "my boy was an angel" response from parents who were completely oblivious to the behaviour of said "little angel" (more likely thug in a gang).

Wearing a £1k Montclere puffa and riding a £5k bike yet they're supposedly from a low income family, it doesn't take a genius to work out what these boys were involved with.

The uncle and family saying police killed them, no your ignorant parenting and them speeding off on a banned motorcycle no doubt carrying gear did. It's just good that they didn't take anyone else out with them.

I get so sick of families like this whose stupidity is the cause. Where we live I don't like my teens going out alone because of teens like those two.

Walking to my local shop last Saturday, midday, with my DS, he was walking a bit ahead of me and there is a gang who hang around outside the cheap burger bar there. As DS came round near them, they were getting ready to give him aggro, looking him up from his trainers to his face.
If I hadn't been there, they'd have gobbed off or worse. And DS is 6ft but 14 and N/D, an utter sweetie and would've been outnumbered by the 15 of these thugs.

These feral kids need removing from streets, curfews, zero tolerance, removal of tenancies if in social housing. Curfews for the parents. Tags if necessary.
The government is too soft.

Indeed, they were children but blaming the police is ridiculous.

Those children made their own choices, obviously funded by their parents, which ultimately led to their death. People need to stop blaming others for their own actions.

It was a tragic accident that could have been avoided.

The parents should blame themselves for being such shit parents their sons died. Basic parenting 101 don't allow your dc to ride on a illegal emotorbike underage with no helmet or protective gear with a pillion passenger. Don't runaway from the police.

RIP to those two lads who were failed by their parents.

Cat2014 · 25/05/2023 09:47

I couldn’t disagree more (apart from blaming the police but at least wait for the inquiry to establish the facts)

no one on here or SM I assume making these comments knows the families, they are making judgements based on snapshots, pictures and hearsay

Cat2014 · 25/05/2023 09:48

They grew up in this area. It was all they knew. The cycle continues …

This is spot on!! And it’s everywhere. The only saving grace is that they didn’t hit an innocent child or children on the street and take them with them ...police and government need to get tough but ultimately the patents are at fault here!! Not the police to blame that’s nonsense

Cat2014 · 25/05/2023 09:49

I know a few people who rebelled as teenagers and did stupid shit. A couple are now adults with their own families and perfectly nice sons, fathers, mothers, daughters.
Given their probable backgrounds what chance did they have
