Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

Whats sickening is women on here desperately defending the paps and blaming H&M:

  1. well they shouldn't of got into the taxi
  2. its they should have better security
  3. why didn't stay in a hotel instead of their friends place

I mean why the fuck is anyone defending paps (mostly men) behaving in a disgusting manner, putting peoples lives (general public) at risk by driving on pavements. That's what is near catastrophic to me... that their driving could of have catastrophic consequences to an innocent person just walking on the pavement. I don't think that is embellishing the story.

If you have a daughter who was just out walking and got injured or worst killed by some men driving illegally on a pavement would you be defending them? Absolutely not you wouldn't be

The police would get blamed if a car they were chasing hit someone. They would be asked why they didn’t call it off.
whilst they can’t call the paps off, they could take themselves from that situation to stop the escalation of behaviour from the paps

they absolutely shouldn’t have to. But they could have, in the same way the police call off chases

The cab driver also said there were at least six paps surrounding them

The cab driver said they 'swarmed' the car. Can 6 photographers be counted as a swarm? Doesn't it mean a large, densely populated group? 6 people that backed away when the security officer got out.

I would call that a swarm.

A woman is in a coma after Sophie’s security hit her, and they weren’t even being chased by paps. The security of M & H has said they were concerned for members of the public.

What are you all not getting. It was dangerous, mostly to others.

I doubt that Meghan asks others to call her 'princess Meghan' as that is not her official title, and anyway 'Duchess' is the superior title, as has been pointed out on this thread. So why, then, would anyone use 'princess Meghan'?Grin

Bluebells1970 · 18/05/2023 09:14

William also lost his mother.

Harry would do well to remember that occasionally.

God that's awful 😞

Damnspot · 18/05/2023 09:03

Any 5 star hotel would have allowed them to temporarily wait inside for 1hr, then leave quietly

No they wouldn't 😄

Yes, they absolutely would. They've stayed at The Carlisle several times in NYC, the Duke & Duchess of Sussex coming in and saying "would you mind terribly letting us wait here privately to allow our security to regroup/paps to leave?".

Any 5 star hotel worth its rating would've have offered them a room overnight fgs!

I get it and that’s why I cannot understand their actions. Because they put others at risk. Because they didn’t have a plan for this.
this was entirely preventable

that poor lady wasn’t hit by a car chase that’s an entirely different terrible circumstance that just happens to involve a royal. The police unfortunately do get in accidents during car chases, they also call a hell of a lot off that put the public in danger.

BeginningToLookALotLike · 18/05/2023 09:17

But then why didn't their PR spokesperson say that in their initial statement?

She’s also not Princess Meghan, she’s Princess Henry

TrashyPanda · 18/05/2023 09:17

I’m mostly getting that their spokesperson used the wrong word**

this was a carefully prepared statement, hours after the event. Not an off the cuff remark. The choice of “catastrophic” has raised eyebrows across the world and has diminished what actually happened, because people are sceptical that something so serious to be nearly catastrophic was not noticed by anyone in NYC.

Fair enough. That's interesting and it makes me realise how some people get overwhelmed by what they read.

behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas · 18/05/2023 09:18

Being chased by six paps, even if not at high speed, but for over 2 hours could definitely have ended in a catastrophe, especially in a place like NY. Any one of the drivers could have lost control, speeding, slowing, reversing, going on sidewalks etc. It's actually quite realistic to say that a major accident could have happened.

That woman was in a terrible accident at a known blindspot for pedestrians - there have been several similar accidents there - and residents have been complaining for years about it.

The Duchess of Edinburgh was being escorted by a Police escort, no one was speeding, no paps were following them. A pedestrian stepped off the pavement at a blind corner. I'm sure everyone involved feels awful.

It's a tragic accident, but let's not conflate 2 entirely unrelated incidents, hyperbole like this doesn't add to the discussion IMO and its unhelpful.

This type of situation is exactly why the royal rota was put in place. To prevent the unholy scramble for pics. But Harry could only see the negatives of the royal Rota and wanted out of it to choose his own favoured outlets. In the U.K. photographers taking pics of the royals are in a designated area and have a very civilised queuing system where they stack their coloured foot stools in a row ( first there gets best slot) and it seems to works and keep everyone happy so need for chases.
shame harry couldn’t or wouldn’t recognise the benefits of this system when he was benefiting from it!

I’ve personally seen royal security in action when royals are out in private. It’s discreet, they stop the public taking pictures and delete photos if they are taken.

theres no paps following them here unless it’s an official engagement.

the event Harry was at last night would have been classed as an official event

Nothing personal meant. Just an observation on how different interpretations of the word 'swarm' can shape the interpretation of an event.

It's the internet equivalent of a cap doff with some extra love and admiration thrown in.

Ellaelle · 18/05/2023 09:27

Meghan became a princess of the United Kingdom upon her marriage to Prince Harry, entitled to the style of Royal Highness.[330] - Wikipedia

You don't have to call her princess Meghan, don't let it upset you if I choose to x

Damnspot · 18/05/2023 09:28

Yes she would; but as I said last night, some people just can't take in information if it conflicts with what they already think. Or they just want to be ornery and irritating.

It is not hyperbole. It is dangerous for pedestrians even without paparazzi, witnesses say this poor lady was hit at speed. It is absolutely right to compare the two. It’s pedestrians who are most at risk. A security person for them in Canada mentioned exactly this on the Netflix show, that when they were being aggressively followed in Canada their concerns were more for pedestrians. Paps don’t just casually follow behind. They weave in and around them on mopeds. It’s dangerous and it is not the fault of the person being followed.

Ellaelle · 18/05/2023 09:33

Anyway stop derailing guys, my point was (the point i was making yesterday) that even with the sensible police escorting duchess Forfar to Scotland they still caused an accident putting the lady into a coma. I said nobody has any interest whatsoever in the duchess Forfar, princess Meghan on the other hand the media obsession with her and the frenzied prazzi chase could have ended up in a catastrophe. Thankful to God it didn't!

Why do you keep calling her duchess Forfar? If you're going to use the Forfar title, she's Countess of Forfar isn't she.

Is duchess Forfar some insult I've missed?
