Anti teen device

Brilliant idea I think. Our area is full of intimidating hoddies! Do you reckon they work on husbands too? Here

Well... the unfairness is that the device hurts the ears of babies and small children.

Admitally it would not be a problem for my son as he is hearing impaired.

I agree with those who say it's a breach of the human rights of young people. It's completely indiscriminate, and will affect younger children, well behaved teenagers and probably pets too. Actually, they'll probably be rather more affected than the target group, for which the sound will be drowned out by whatever's playing on their ipod, and possibly to some extent blocked by the hood of the hoodie.

Taking the view that teenagers congregating are necessarily Up to No Good also makes it far more likely that they really will be.

Talking of intimidating hoodies, I've heard of a scheme in which teenagers in hoodies are going to go round shopping centres doing good deeds - now that's truly worrying

Supposedly a good alternative is to play 'easy listening' music at the places that teenage gangs congregate - it clears them off really quickly.

A shop in a town near here is using classical music to make its doorway untrendy.
That high pitched noise is an awful idea!!

I honestly honestly think that this is quite a good idea.
However only for those that have problems with young people in their area.

There are no deterents for these young people that cause problems and break the law.
None what so ever.

Having worked with them, even if they are sentanced and have to go to a secure unit they don't care. Some of them actually want to go.

I can hear a horrible high-pitched sound outside my local WH Smiths whenever it is shut - maybe that is the reason?

Surely classical music is a better idea. It has an unbelievably calming effect on my hyperactive nephew and is in no way unkind. I would like to hear it at bus stops for instance! I do think the other sort probably have a place in more extreme situations, can't imagine where though!

If people, of whatever age, are actually being a nuisance and aggressive then the blasted police should get off their bums and do something.
I called the police overa drug dealer outside my house with setreo so loud that my house was shaking. And he was dealing. The police never bothered showing up.

Im sick of the Little Bastard who hang around the car park at my MIL & FIL they Vandalise cars, litter everywhere and pee where ever they want the police are rubbish and i would love to buy one of there to get rid of them!!!!!!!! but as some one else said the noise will probably be blocked out by there hoodies and ipods !!!!!!!!!!!!

Its totally typical of this country to try and be so PC in other countries this kind of yob behaviour is just not tolerated and they have a much nice environment for everyone as a result!!!!!

Bring baack flogging thats what i say !!!!

Maybe grumpy adults can wear one as an accessory. Would deter pesky children and annoying teens from sitting near you on public transport

We have that device here near the health centre. It has worked and the teens co longer congregate in the car park there.....(even though they weren't making any noise to upset residents........no they congregate outside the shop opposite my house now , so I have to go and pick the litter up from the drive every morning and listen to their foul language at night..

I can hear it too and I'm 35.

The problem is that it signals to young people that they are undesirables in our society.

Added to that, it does not SOLVE the problem, it just moves it to some one elses doorway.

So glad I turned 26 in September so I dont have to suffer, too bad my two year old will wherever the device is - not that I'll know as I wont be able to hear it.

Bad bad bad bad bad idea. Most areas need to invest in places and things for teenagers to DO.

I'm sick of hearing people who complain about the kids on the street but whenever anything is suggested about a place where they can do things nobody wants to support it.

I've seen it happen a couple of times - where my parents lived, nice village, kids nothing to do but hang out on the fields which nobody liked, a group of teenagers go together to put a plan together to turn a disused building into a place teenagers could hang out/talk/play pool/study and had some adults offering to supervise - lots of rejections because nobody wanted to believe it could work. Same thing happen where I live now - DH wanted to rent an area, tables / food / some games etc, even his own uncle said he'd reject the proposal as he didn't want it "in his area" despite the fact that the kids congregate two mins walk down the road next to the school!

imentioned this to the HA where i work a couple of years ago.

they said hat legally they might be sued so they wouldnt use this device

the best anti teen device i saw on the news and indeed was employed last summer at our local co-op

playing classical and opera trough the speakers just outside the door.

Probably talking out of my arse here as I don't know any teenagers apart from my niece. But when you give young people sanctioned "places to go" and "things to do", don't they automatically become uncool because of being sanctioned? I've always thought the idea that "there a lots of teenagers hanging around on the corners/in the fields, they need a youth club" is a bit simplistic - some of them seem to prefer hanging round on fields etc. because it's rebellious and they can get up to things they couldn't get up to in a youth-club. And they wouldn't go to a youth-club if one was built.

Putting flame-retardant hat on against all parents of teens who I'm sure are lovely.

Wherever they put music or deterrents somewhere, it forces the problem elsewhere.

Its like moving your unironed clothes elsewhere in your house - they still need ironing, even if they dont appear to be a problem in your line of sight.
