The chat appears to have gone quiet today after the last thread filled up, so I'm making a new one for anyone who wants to come together whilst we all hold our breath hoping for a good outcome.

I've just remembered about those early reports of two fishermen in the area the day before Nicola went missing - I wonder if it was those two men?

Oh yeah, I forgot about them.
I can't remember whether they were just from a comment on twitter or what.

Bluebellwood129 · 11/02/2023 23:37

@ofwarren Me neither - could be nothing.

Humoresque · 11/02/2023 23:38

Can I make two suggestions for consideration?

One: That from now there are 2 mumsnet threads: 1. Nicola Bulley - discussion & also 2. Nicola Bulley - discussion of whether the case should be discussed on mumsnet.
So if anyone wants to opine on the first thread by stating the case shouldn’t be discussed, then the rest of us just politely send them the think to the 2nd thread. Where they can then have all the space in the world to debate and discuss their beliefs about this.

Two: On how to avoid a repeat of last night when multiple complaints against trolls caused the thread to be pulled automatically.
Many of us understand that like tonight’s troll, trolls want multiple complaints against them to get this discussion pulled by mumsnet.
So we’re not making complaints & trying instead to ignore the trolls
But ignoring him/her (and trolls using the same tactic) doesn’t mean we agree with them. It’s the opposite - for like many others have said, the previous threads by @ofwarren & today’s thread by @LoveMAFS have done a grand job.

kirinm · 11/02/2023 23:38

@Gramps52 yes.

kirinm · 11/02/2023 23:40

@pigsinoodies there isn't a second party. I'm a solicitor and use the term third party all the time. Most days in fact.

kirinm · 11/02/2023 23:44

There can be a second party in terms of a contract of course and that sort of thing but that isn't the context here.

That's the point though. When you think about the meaning of the term 'third party' has an actual meaning, and it's not just 'a random person'.

I think it's irrelevant to the thread though, although I understand the question of the possible 'hidden meaning' of the exact use of the phrase that was being posed last night.

Another thread derailment I'm involved in, so let's not pursue it in case I get a reputation.

kirinm · 11/02/2023 23:59

A third party example: person A has a flood at their home and makes a claim on their insurance. This is a first party claim for the insurance company. Person B lives next door to person A and their house was damaged by the flood at person A's house. Person b makes a claim against person A's insurance. That would be considered a third party claim.

In my view the police are saying nobody else is involved. It's not code for something else.

Yes, I understand both what it is and what the police meant. It was a third party who brought up the subject of the literal meaning. They were correct unless my contention of a slightly different grammatical meaning is correct.

But as I said, let's not derail. I believe there's a 'Pedant's Corner' topic somewhere on MN if it deserves more discussion.

we need to continue talking about it and hopefully, as said on the documentary, it’s us people who will ‘help’ to solve this case.

Don't think they meant random MN'ers hen. These threads are grotesque. It's no wonder you're being called out for it on Twitter.

People would do well to check out the work of David Paulides.

It is sad and heartbreaking but, unfortunately, increasingly common.

How is your mum "heading up to Lancashire" going to "help"?

She is a sadistic ghoul.

@JoLo27 Have you had some kind of shame bypass operation?

More Hyacinth Bucket than Hetty Wainthropp, me thinks.

Please put the wine down, go to sleep . . . . and stay down south.

Yeah I've seen one of his programmes. I don't think most people on here are ready to accept his theories tbh!

No, they're not . . . and it's fair enough. People jump to conclusions, understandably so, because it is frightening.

They say people don't just vanish into thin air . . . . . but they do. There are hundreds of unsolved missing person cases, people from every age group, demographic and socio-economic group.

It really is heartbreaking and the families are left with no answers whatsoever.

Fab . . . and please do stay away from Lancashire too.

The earlier post on the vague memory of the one that found the dog. Either it's 100 percent critical and a big conspiracy (very unlikely) or totAlly insignificant (a lot more likely).

Life is not Sherlock with tiny clues unraveling to show master conspiracies.

This. People (everywhere, not just here) are jumping to massive conclusions based on the actions of the dog, or where the harness was found, or whatever. It's meaningless. Sometimes, people do odd things. Dogs are not people and do (or don't do) all kinds of odd things. My dog always sleeps on the bed and tonight she isn't. It doesn't MEAN anything. She's just daft.

There is no evidence of anything at all. I think it's mostly likely she fell in the river. I attach the no credence to the private river search. No one competent is EVER that certain. Rivers are natural features, which are unique and unpredictable, and even outside chances are possible.
