These threads are to discuss the disappearance of Nicola Bulley from St Michael's on Wyre.

No speculation without evidence please.

Here are some frequently asked questions, with answers:

1.Where do Nicola and her husband work?

They both work from home which is why he was at home on the day she went missing.

2.Where was the dog harness found / the phone?

Dog harness was found near the river edge not the bench, phone was on on/near the bench.

  1. Has the river been searched?

Yes by the police and volunteers from the Specialist Search team

  1. Had the dog been in the water, and maybe Ms Bulley went in after her?

Willow appeared distressed but ‘bone dry’, according to the woman who found her. There was no sign of her having gone in the river.

  1. Why would she leave her phone on the bench?

Nicola’s phone was found on the bench, still connected to a conference call. So whatever happened, there was no time to end the call or to alert others on the call.

  1. Why was she on mute with no video for her business meeting?

This was not unusual, She used to go on work meeting calls with video off and microphone

  1. Where was her partner while she was out walking their dog?

He was at home at the time.

  1. What about this abandoned house?

Its not abandoned. Its owned by a lovely family who have lived in the village for generations and would do anything they can to help in the search for Nikki.
It has been searched, inside and outside, from top to bottom by the police. This has been clarified with the family themselves and also with the police.
They have never refused entry to the police or told them they need a warrant to search.

  1. Did Nicola have a dog ball with her?

No she didn’t she used to but stopped taking a dog ball on walks.

  1. Was she swept out to sea?

The police Seargent has said it’s now a possibility Nicola’s body could have drifted out to sea.

  1. We’re CCTV cameras working in the area:

The CCTV camera which would have captured everything unfortunately wasn’t working. But the police are actively working to identify 700 motorists travelling in the Garstang Road area on the 27TH of January.

  1. Are there any other paths she could have gone down?

Apart from the river, there are only three exits, two of which are covered by CCTV. On her way in, she was seen by several people. No one saw her leave.

I know channel 5 said they had family on, but I didn't expect it to be Paul for some reason

Flowers to everyone who has lost a loved one to suicide. Please don't let that poster upset you, they do clearly don't know the slightest bit about it.

Thank you. And all the love to the others here who have been through this too.

OMG, not the point but what's with the manspreading by both on that pic 😂😏

or that she walked to where it was deeper.

There would have been time.

Low tide was at 0926 that day. The water below the weir would have been at its absolute shallowest - shallower than at the bench.

Dan Walker
It was heartbreaking to interview Paul Ansell for our special programme on his missing partner, Nicola Bulley.

Paul is going through hell but says “Nicky would never give up on us so we will never give up on her”.

I've just been looking at the missing person/found but unidentified website above. I don't have the words, unsettlingly, sad, bewildering.

dawngreen · 10/02/2023 15:11

But how deep would the middle of the river be?

That's pretty brave of him, the twitter crowd are already pulling him apart and they've not heard him speak yet.

At least it's prerecorded so the poor guy can compose himself.
I'm actually interested in what he has to say to be honest.

He’s so brave to go on and speak. I hope people don’t microanalyse his every word though

Accounts vary - the deepest I recall is 4m, but a few put it quite a bit less than that.

It also depends on which bit of the river you're talking about (straight or bendy, which side of the weir)

It looks as if it's quite shallow for much of the width if you're looking at the inside of curves.

They will
It's like they want it to be him that harmed her.

4 m - known as ‘Deep Hole’

For there to be an inside of a bend there's an outside across half the width of the bed.

The river builds up the inside of a bend and scours out the outside.

dawngreen · 10/02/2023 15:22

They just seem so sure that it was that area where she entered. I wonder if she downed pills to make her sleepy because I just don't see her falling in there.

4 m - known as ‘Deep Hole’

I think the 4m figure has come from somebody misinterpreting the Environment Agency's 'normal depth range' figure. I saw the divers working in that spot on TV and it didn't look like they were going down 4m.

User45378754 · 10/02/2023 15:27

She may have walked off somewhere else.

She would have covered some ground on foot in the many hours from last sighting to when the police search teams arrived.

Do any locals know if you can walk along the riverside downstream? Although she may not have entered the river at any point.

No one knows right now.

dawngreen · 10/02/2023 15:31

But I've just remembered the tree with the deep water warning signs on it. If she fell in she maybe took some thing or had a medical issue.

DerangedViper · 10/02/2023 15:32

The river builds up the inside of a bend and scours out the outside.

Depending on how bendy the bend the two portions are not necessarily equal halves

pigsinoodies · 10/02/2023 15:34

The water is sometimes up to 4m higher than it is now - right up to the top of the bank (but not on 26th Jan).

itsnote · 10/02/2023 15:36

"But I've just remembered the tree with the deep water warning signs on it"

They're not necessary at the moment because at the moment it's not deep. Sometimes the water is a lot lot higher.

pigsinoodies · 10/02/2023 15:38

DerangedViper · 10/02/2023 15:32

I knew you'd pick me up on that!

I just meant it's not even across the bend. Shallower on the inside (usually) and a trench toward the outside. It obviously depends on the way the current's deflected and on the nature of the river bed material.

pigsinoodies · 10/02/2023 15:40

But still, logically half the profile of the river bed could be considered the 'inside' of a bend and half the 'outside', unless you want to add a 'centre' section as well.

She said: "They say she was laughing and joking with them as she went by."
She went on to say two other dog walkers later came across her phone and recognised the screensaver photo.
She said they were unable to unlock the phone and contacted a friend who then called St Michael's-on-Wyre Church of England Primary School, where Nicola had dropped her two children earlier that morning.
Partner Paul Ansell was contacted and raced to the scene from the family home three miles away in Inskip, before calling the police, the friend said.
"As far as I’m aware, no one called the police until Paul arrived," she said.
