I didn't let them execute my dad 😢 I consented to stopping life support. This language is honestly abhorrent

I'm really sorry for the way they're making it sound. It's cruel to anyone whose had a loved one in intensive care and had to make that incredibly difficult decision.

I was sure this interview would be cancelled. This could be her last evening with Archie, why is she spending it with Jeremy Kyle? I don’t get it.

unless there’s not visiting in the evenings or something?

Funny how much time she seems to be spending away from her sons bedside. Almost like he's not actually the most important thing anymore.

His mum has not caused his current condition.

He (tragically, and for reasons currently unclear) did this to himself.

I know that. I'm just pointing out mbp isn't just fabricating illness. There's a bit more to it.

To be fair she's on a video link from outside the hospital. I'm sure a short break from the room every now and then is a sensible thing.

I can't even believe that cretinous arsehole is even being brought into this .. any support she still had will be gone .

Which cretinous arsehole?

AlternativelyWired · 01/08/2022 20:22

Jeremy Kyle ffs. That's got to be the lowest of the low.

Soubriquet · 01/08/2022 20:22

It is, but the barmy army post on there. People also post things from the army page onto the DFA page

I guess that she does not - or cannot - believe that this is going to be her last evening with him. Given that all of her previous court appeals have resulted in a reprieve - even when she hasn't actually won the appeal - I can see why she's expecting another one this time.

CallMeNutribullet · 01/08/2022 20:26

The term MBP is considered out of date these days. It's now referred to as Fabricated or Induced Illness and requires someone to either fabricate or induce Illness in someone else. Neither of which Hollie has done.

She might on some level be getting something from the attention she's receiving but that doesn't equate to FII/MBP.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/08/2022 20:29

JK was very mild and said "You've been an amazing Mother"

But Hollie didn't say the hospital was trying to execute or murder her child

TBH , poor woman looked utterly defeated Sad

It doesn't really matter if the term is outdated. It still gets deleted.

The claim here was that it is about fabricated illnesses, and as both you and myself have pointed out there's a bit more to it than that. Not that I think it's relevant to the conversation either way.

That’s sad to hear. While I don’t agree with the way she has gone about things, stepping back and imagining if you genuinely believed that you were fighting to save your child’s life and had failed to do so, it must be absolutely awful.

Shame on the people who have egged her on instead of trying to encourage her to accept the reality of Archie’s situation.

She did. Honestly I think the only difference between Hollie and any of the rest of us is most people have sensible family members who support and encourage acceptance and letting go. Hollie doesn't seem to be surrounded by people who would do this.

Jezza seemed determined to make her cry.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/08/2022 20:49

She did say that her friend who was a Nurse of 20+ years experience had been to see Archie and said his organs were not in such a poor state as the Hospital says . (Not sure of exact words but something along they said he's got organ failure and My Friend The Nurse said that he hasn't )

Uness she has acess to all his blood tests , results, scans , and has a background in Paed Intensive Care , I'd be a tad suspect .

knickersniff · 01/08/2022 20:52

JK , he's the lowest of the low and his target audience not much better . I wonder why Hollie even thought this would be a good idea ..
he's trying to revive his career so he would be nice . It's turned into a royal shit show
They'll be no winners in this ending , not for Archie or his parents , the doctors or the courts . It's desperate and sad and one I'm sure we all hope we do not find ourselves dealing with .

Oh see I didn't think that though he did do the "Make It About Meeeee" thing with his I'm a Dad I cannot imagine / I've got 5 kids , parents worse nightmare

And how they spoke on Friday and he understood so much more blah blah

TiddyTidTwo · 01/08/2022 20:56

I'm sorry if I've offended anyone.

My dad wasn't brain dead when the machines were switched off. It was heart and organ failure and it was unexpectedly. He was walking my brothers dog as per usual in the forest 5 days before and in the local co-op car park chatting to locals.

I see the court docs for Archie and to me it's so clear. Now I'm thinking, did I make the right decision? My dad was a strong man.

You see what this media/SM coverage does?

MaggieFS · 01/08/2022 21:02

@TiddyTidTwo No need to apologise again. Your clarification explains what you meant and I think it was a fair comment, you just mistakenly attached the wrong label.

Sorry it's making you feel like this. I've no doubt what you did was the kindest and bravest thing to do.

whynotwhatknot · 01/08/2022 21:24

sorry for your loss

Lougle · 01/08/2022 21:29

@TiddyTidTwo if it's any consolation, in my experience the ICU doctors wait far longer than they need to before they suggest ceasing treatment. Decisions are made very, very carefully and any and all options are considered before withdrawal of care.

Sadly, medicine can't fix all and if organs are failing then it is just a matter how and when a person will die, not if.

Adults in intensive care lose around 2% muscle mass every day that they are ventilated. They generally say that a day of ventilation requires a month of recovery. Many, many patients needed extensive rehabilitation following ICU care. I looked after a patient who had been ventilated for 10 days. When they gained consciousness, they were so weak that they could only lift a finger from their covers. They couldn't even raise their hand.

It's not at all like Holby City or Grey's Anatomy 😑

whynotwhatknot · 01/08/2022 21:30

can they really expect the supreme court to go back on the dicsion or is it just a delaying tactic from the clc

MissMyDad · 01/08/2022 21:32

@TiddyTidTwo sorry for your loss 💐

I have similar feelings to you. My df died last year after 2 weeks on a ventilator. Not exactly same circumstances as yours but we agreed to dnar as in the unlikely event he pulled through he would have been severely disabled. He'd made it clear to us if that situation ever arose, he would not thank us for bringing him back. Hardest thing ever. Reading about being ventilated on these threads has been very difficult.

Going back to Archies situation, it IS a horrendous thing to agree to. Many parents have said they would fight all the way if their child was in this situation. It's obviously very personal to each family faced with these circumstances. I wouldn't like to judge either approach - accept/fight. All I can say is there but for the grace...

TiddyTidTwo · 01/08/2022 21:42

Thank you everyone and please I don't want to distract from the thread

@Lougle my dad was going and we live an hour away. We got called in. Those ICU staff did their bloody utmost till we got there then told us we can keep trying but it is futile.

I absolutely cannot believe the same hasn't been done for a child. I just don't.
