Clinton wins Democratic vote in New Hampshire.

Honestly I don't think I can take another 11 months of this sort of stress.

OP posts:
paulaplumpbottom · 09/01/2008 13:15

sorry meant

donnie · 09/01/2008 13:15

if Hills does get in, will Bill be her 'first man'?

donnie · 09/01/2008 13:17

well I know several Paula, starting with GWB and most of his coterie.

kittylouise · 09/01/2008 13:17

I want Clinton to win it. She has far more experience and gravitas than Obama, and in my opionion a lot more savvy and media awareness. I don't particularly warm to her as a person, but so what? She is the best person for the job, and has the best chance of beating the Republicans.

Would be great to see her as president (and to have Bill as first First Gentleman!)

paulaplumpbottom · 09/01/2008 13:18

Oh please they do not. They can't afford it and they don't have the manpower. Iran is interested in picking a fight but its nothing that people in the States actually want.

SueBaroo · 09/01/2008 15:08

ah, you see, you want Ron Paul, really. He's the one calling for a radical change in US foreign policy, basically a non-interventionist one.

Nutty as a fruitcake from what I've read, but I do like a character in politics

Piffle · 09/01/2008 17:34

With whose soldiers would the US invade iran with exactly?
cos they've got fuck all of their own left to send

In the Jeffrey Archer novel (oh, the shame) with the female president, her husband was known as the First Gentleman.

paulaplumpbottom · 09/01/2008 20:56

Thats true ( I loved the Prodical Daughter & Shall we Tell the President)I think the First Gentleman would be what he is stuck with

UnquietDad · 09/01/2008 21:13

Florentyna Kane, that was her name.

It's actually not badly written.

By his team of 15 editors.

RosaLuxOnTheBrightSideOfLife · 09/01/2008 21:23

I think Florentyna is a brand of soap. Possibly Crabtree & Evelyn.

popsycal · 09/01/2008 21:26

I would have huge problems with Hukabee's ID leanings... it's not about personal belief, it's about complete scientific illiteracy.

Given the current global warming situation, wouldn't you rather that the leader of US had some clue about science?

paulaplumpbottom · 09/01/2008 22:12

Actually who could understand the East/West conflict more than a Christian with Islamic relatives?

Again Huckabee has never said that he doesn't believe in evolution.

nodder · 09/01/2008 22:20

Have you seen Fred Thompsons wife, she looks so much younger than him. [should be shocked but not shocked really emotion]
He's 65 and she is 40.

Actually.. he has in so many words:

"Huckabee, in a conference call with reporters the morning after the debate, explained how he would have responded if given a chance to elaborate on the question:

"If you want to believe that you and your family came from apes, that's fine. I'll accept that," he said Friday. "I just don't happen to think that I did."

As for what should be taught in public schools, Huckabee said he wants "schools to acknowledge that there are views that are different than evolution.""

presidentialpolitic.blogspot.com/2007/05/huckabees-evolution-beliefs.html

paulaplumpbottom · 09/01/2008 22:30

Sorry I have always heard him respond diffrently.

expatinengland · 10/01/2008 19:48

Yes, there is a white guy running for US President on the Democrat ticket, John Edwards, but he seems to be stuck in 3rd place. I think he would make a great president.

Why are so many English folks obsessed with Obama being black, or Hillary being a woman, or who's white/black, etc? I could care less about someone's gender or race or religion...it's their beliefs and values and positons that I care about. I just don't understand all the labels on this thread.

Paula..you've heard from me on here before...Huckabee is very scary! If you have no problem with your kids learning that there's no such thing as evolution and that the Earth is only about 4,000 years old...well Huckabee's your man.

The other posters are right...he does NOT believe in evolution and wants to initiate the changing of the public school curriculum in the US to reflect his beliefs....he tried to ban the teaching of evolution in Arkansas schools and he will try to do this across the US. (This already happened in Kansas before the school board reversed it's ruling.) He also is against abortion in all instances...even to save the life of the mother or in rape or incest cases.. Again, if you think women should die if they receive bad news during their pregnancy...great...it's your choice, but other women should not have to die because abortion is 100 banned.

I liked McCain, and would have voted for him in the last election, but he's been in too close with Bush so can't vote for him.

I think Obama is inexperienced, but would be okay I guess. Clinton is putdown because she's a woman so much of the time. People just hate a smart, educated woman with balls, and women are usually the most sexist with powerful women. I think they're jealous...some men feel threatened by a powerful woman.

Paula, you are so partisen...I bet that you would never vote for an Independent or a Democrat. That's fine...lots of folks feel that way, but in the US, voting for a republican means that you hate gays and gay rights. That's just the way it is..can't have it both says...the Religious Right has taken over the party. One day this may turn the other way, but they control it now. No way you can run for national office in the US unless you belive in God and Jesus. (Leiberman was a liability and his Jewish faith was constantly mentioned.) Who should care?

Good Republicans must have one, two or all three of the "R's"...Must be very RICH, or very Religious, or very Racist. What one is it for you?

Guys, it's interesting that a thread is going around in the US saying that Obama is Muslim and hates America and that he has terrorist ties..even saying he's not President material because of his name, etc. My Aunt told me yesterday that she would have voted for him, but would not now because he's a Muslim...The hate spreads in the US just like the UK...I tried to tell her to check on snopes.com, but she would hear none of it. If this propaganda continues, it could be the end of him.

The good news is that Bush can't ruin the US anymore...but his brother might run during the next election.

paulaplumpbottom · 10/01/2008 20:32

I happen to be a big suppoeter of gay rights. I also resent the fact that you seem to think me being Republican makes me a rascist. It also go to show you shouldn't make judgements about people you don't know. I'm a minority myself after all. You know I don't agree with Democrats but I never go around saying that if you are a democrat then you must be a baby killer.

Really Expat I expected a bit more tact from you.

paulaplumpbottom · 10/01/2008 20:42

I would also never say that all democrats are poor people who are too lazy to get off their butts and get proper jobs and would rather sit at home and moan that the government doesn't give them enough.

I wouldn't be so stupid to make those assumptions because I don't believe those things are true.

UnquietDad · 11/01/2008 21:55

They have a lot of candidates to choose from right now, so it;s interesting - but it will eventually boil down to two and we will be subjected to months of tit-for-tat campaigning between just two views. That's what I find boring about US politics. Why can't we have all six leading candidates, three of each party - or indeed an even bigger selection across the entire political spectrum - campaigning up to and including polling day in November? Give the American people a real choice. Imagine going into the polling booth and having a slip saying

CLINTON
GIULIANI
HUCKABEE
ROMNEY
THOMPSON
OBAMA

in front of you, with just one vote to cast.

I'm sure there must be a good reason why they don't do this, which someone will now tell me.
