That's rude.

No it's not rude. Is it too much to ask for a link in the op? I haven't a clue what this is about without some indication.

ponkydonkey · 20/10/2021 22:37

It was the mother's words that sent a chill down my spine

" it's been 12 hours since I saw the sparkle in my daughters eyes"

😱😱😱😱

Most tent zips can be opened higher by pulling the door away from the hole it fills. I doubt a four year old would bother though, once there was a gap big enough for them to fit through if they were opening the door themselves.

I feel for that family having had a two year old let himself out of a tent on a campsite with open water in the early hours. The most frightening half hour of my life from the time we woke and missed him until we found him. And he was in the same bedroom as his father (I had the baby in the other one). We tied up the zip ends on the outside after that for a couple of years.

Whether someone took her from the tent, or whether she got out and either got taken or lost, it’s looking like the outcome isn’t going to be good.

@Theunamedcat

Where is her dad? Could he have taken her
The dad was about 1000km away which is roughly an 11 hour or so drive. The family arrived at the campsite at around 6.30pm and Cleo went to bed at around 8.30pm, woke up at 1.30am was given some water by her mum. When her mum and step dad woke up at around 6am they noticed she was gone. There is no way the dad would have been able to get there in that time frame. The police spoke to him for several hours and he has been cleared.

@Hellocatshome

don't see how they can be so certain about the height of the zip. The parents would have surely unzipped it to rush outside to look for her when they realised she was missing. In that situation, would you notice or remember how the door zip looked before you touched it yourself?

When we used to camp with small kids we always zipped the tent so the zipper was at the top so they would have to wake us to go out for a wee etc. They probably know where it was.because its where it always is rather than specifically remembering where it was when they unzipped it if you see what I mean.

In the video I watched I'm pretty sure the mum said it was the first time they'd used the tent so I don't think any of them were used to it.

Have you name changed?
gardeninggirl68 · 20/10/2021 22:43

the zip is relevant because there were two entrances

gardeninggirl68 · 20/10/2021 22:44

@NumberTheory

Don't really understand why the zip being open high rules out her leaving under her own steam. Don't zips ride up if you get them open a bit and then just pull the fabric to the side?

Horrific and tragic whatever has happened, though.

the police explained it

No, just defending the person who wrote "?".

A link is a basic courtesy. You shouldn't assume that everyone knows what you are talking about and links take seconds.

I thought that because her sleeping bag is also missing, it’s more likely that she was taken from the tent.

A 4yr old would find it hard to walk a long distance with a sleeping bag without leaving ‘drag’ marks.

RevolvingPivot · 20/10/2021 22:50

Especially between 1-6am in the cold and dark.

This is a part of Australia that is very remote (even by Australian standards) Someone can easily disappear/hide out and never be seen again which just adds to the complexity of this case.

Also they are using the expertise of Indigenous trackers who are very skilled at what they do. So hopefully they may be able to provide some answers/clues.

Itsnotover · 20/10/2021 23:08

The police don't think the parents were involved. 'Increasingly likely that it's a third party'

NumberTheory · 20/10/2021 23:49

@gardeninggirl68

the police explained it

What was the explanation? I didn't see it in the articles I read.

Homebird8 · 20/10/2021 23:53

@Takemetothe90s

I am not in the habit of tying up my husband.

I've been to that area of Western Australia and it is indeed very remote.

Itsnotover · 21/10/2021 00:27

@HeartsAndClubs don't they have photos of her at the campsite? She and her younger sister have a photo of them wearing the same Bonds wondersuit, presumably before they were put to bed.

I will say that the mothers behaviour seems a bit off in the interview but that doesn't mean she was to blame. I take issue with whoever it was who referred to her as 'young' though.

I can't imagine how a child can easily get taken from a tent without the adults knowing though.

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 21/10/2021 00:42

Tbh if my young child had vanished you can guarantee my behaviour would be ' off' too. Hmm
