If a private company had been this negligent, the government would be bleating ...

It raises a few questions, not least of which is why 15 million claimants are all on one disc!

nimnom · 20/11/2007 13:17

Just spoken to CHB office - apparently people involved will be advised asap!

If they've lost the disc (must be a big disc) how will they know to contact I wonder ...

How many people claim CHB? You would have thought 15 million could be all of them? Number of children in the UK under 16, out of a total population of 55 mill?

Desiderata · 20/11/2007 13:21

... but ministers have known for nine or ten days. It was nice of them to share.

Fecking buffoons!

So they lost the discs, but "do not believe the records have fallen into the wrong hands". Interesting, presumably they've just dropped down behind a desk or something, then??

They've known for some time, yes. In fact I first saw information on it last night on Watchdog - and they can take some time to get a story together.

With all the hassle we have had with Child Tax Credits - and now the strong possibility that my bank details, NI number, address etc are out there somewhere......????

But of course, they never make mistakes

fio - that's brilliant

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/11/2007 13:34

Well, indeed clumsymum.

It wouldnt surprise me. I remember one particular conversation on the CTC helpline whereby they insisted they didnt have my details, and yet I had submitted them all online. I told them I could see that I had submitted them online, and had an e-confirmation on their system that I had. Yet they couldnt see it. So I had to look up their website, to give them information over the telephone that they already had.

pml desderata but seriously it is now getting to the point, that when news like this is leaked or investigated I kind of roll my eyes and say "what's happened this time...." They are soooo f@*&%ing stupid!!!!!

jezzemx · 20/11/2007 13:36

oops pmsl FF

persephonesnape · 20/11/2007 14:22

Piffle · 20/11/2007 14:26

hopefully the dodgy eyebrowed chancellor will have to leave office now...
not sure of his political ability but everytime dd (5) sees him on ch4 news before bed she has nightmares...
could just be coincidence of course...

GloriaInEleusis · 20/11/2007 14:40

Fio

Now, anyone want to talk about how much faith they have in all those details they want to collect for ID cards?

And why oh why in this day and age, do they transport details on CDs in the post. Is that a tad prehistoric. Can you imagine if a bank did this?

cushioncover · 20/11/2007 14:51

ROFL at Fio!
Even DH laughed and he always pretends to rise above MN humour!

JoanWilder · 20/11/2007 14:55

missing info:

your name address tel. no
your child's name, DOB
your bank details
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am quite nervous about this...
Alistair Dumbass is making an emergency commons announcement at 3.30 to try and bullshit us...

JoanWilder · 20/11/2007 14:55

people could take a mortgage ou in your name, get credit, credit cards...
even a library membership!

GloriaInEleusis · 20/11/2007 15:02

Not on my cedit they couldn't.

nangnangnang · 20/11/2007 15:02

Gloria - I'm with you on ID cards. Hoping this is a nail in their coffin..

JoanWilder · 20/11/2007 15:13

what if someone sold the info to peadophiles?
is that possible?

JoanWilder · 20/11/2007 15:13

sorry paedophiles

clumsymum · 20/11/2007 15:23

Erm..... I think that is VERY VERY VERY unlikely. Lets not get carried away here.
