They're trying to get a Bill through Parliament today to outlaw smacking altogether in Britain.

Your views anyone.

That's fine except I gave her cot away and she's only one so have to wait for a bit to get her in a bed.

Don't know hercules - I'm just asking because some of my friends babies have been hysterical when left at nursery but they are against anything like controlled crying and I just don't get that. If controlled crying is psychologically damaging then surely separating a baby from it's mother for the whole day at 6 months old is equally, if not more, damaging?

That's lovely hercules that your baby falls asleep like that and that's EXACTLY what I did with ds1 and it's how he got into the habit of needing to be held to go to sleep, but it's just not always practical to sit there with them while they nod off. I've got 3 ds's under 4 and so that I can be a SAHM I work in my office in the evenings so I can't spend that amount of time sitting around just waiting for them to nod off.

Having a daily 'routine' for them and having them able to go to sleep on their own is invaluable for my ability to work, or if not working, to give me and dh some quality time together to ensure our marriage doesn't fall apart!! It only took 3 nights of controlled crying to get ds1 to do it at 12 months old and I've never had to use it for the other 2 because they've had a good routine from birth.

They also get a tap on the hand/bottom if I feel it's necessary (just as I did) and I can assure you that they are all happy and well adjusted children who love their Mummy - they are not psychologically damaged!

My circumstances are very different. I have an 8 year old ds so it's similar to only having one baby as he does his own thing a lot of the time.

Just to briefly return this thread to its In The News theme, I have found it depressing (but unsurprising) that my local MP voted FOR the anti-hunting bill but AGAINST the anti-smacking bill.

Yes, he's Labour
