Unfortunately I think Bush will win again. I think the latest Bin Laden tape will actually help him and make the difference. What do you guys think?

moomina · 03/11/2004 07:12

He's going to get it again, isn't he? Four more years, ffs.

Papillon · 03/11/2004 07:21

So I wonder if any protests of disgust will be organized. I hope so. If nothing else we can mass demonstrate.

ScummyMummy · 03/11/2004 08:00

bollocks

Papillon · 03/11/2004 08:21

Re Oil

IMAGINE the possiblities if all the money spent on the miltary was directed towards alternative fuel sources.

JoolsToo · 03/11/2004 08:33

IMAGINE if all the money spent on the election campaign had been spent and health and education!

winnie1 · 03/11/2004 08:39

scummy, I couldn't put it better myself.

tex111 · 03/11/2004 08:43

Feeling ill watching the news this morning. I'm going to be positive and keep my hopes up. There's still a chance. Whoever wins they're going to have half the country against them. I hope they give Kerry a chance to do a good job. He's going to have a Republican Congress so it is not going to be easy but I definitely hope he gets a chance!

tex111 · 03/11/2004 08:45

Just checked CNN - Bush:249, Kerry:242. Ohio not counted yet. So there's real hope!

I'm not religious but I'm praying

wonder how Uwilas feeling?

motherinferior · 03/11/2004 08:56

My only comment on the whole thing:

OH F**CK!!!!!!!

tex111 · 03/11/2004 08:57

Just checked the Texas results on CNN. They have a map broken down by county with blue for Dems and red for Reps. Travis County (Austin) is a little blue dot in a sea of red! It looks like Dallas and Houston were about 50/50 which is heartening. I expected the whole state to be bright red.

tex111 · 03/11/2004 09:09

Uh oh, Bush:254, Kerry:242

motherinferior · 03/11/2004 09:12

I think I'm going to say it again.

Fennel · 03/11/2004 09:13

no no no

Slinky · 03/11/2004 09:14

I switched on the news at 7am - absolutely gutted

I really can't believe it - I haven't watched anymore on TV. I can't believe we've got another 4yrs of that complete t*er.

Pagan · 03/11/2004 09:17

I did one of those global votes - an astonoshing result in favour of Kerry

Dear global voter,

You asked to receive the results of the global 2004 presidential election. Your vote was one of 113,552 votes from 191 countries (confirmed votes from countries other than the US only). The winner is John Kerry (Democrat) with 77.1% of votes.

The votes are as follows:

Candidate Votes Percentage
Bush 10221 9.0 %
Kerry 87446 77.1 %
Cobb 4347 3.8 %
Nader 7622 6.7 %
Brown 2292 2.0 %
Peroutka 345 0.3 %
Badnarik 1279 1.1 %

throckenholt · 03/11/2004 09:19

shame the Americans don't feel the same.

Fennel · 03/11/2004 09:20

pagan - it's a shame we can't actually vote seeing as he's going to trash the world if he gets a chance.

tex111 · 03/11/2004 09:23

I've seen that too Pagan. The thing I found most interesting is that in the country breakdown Bush wins in Iraq and the Middle East! Maybe US servicepeople voting?

Unfortunately I've heard from some Texans about this vote and the general response is along the lines of 'who cares what the rest of the world thinks' and 'of course, they want Kerry. He's weak and then the rest of the world thinks they'll be able to push us around.' Heartbreaking really.

throckenholt · 03/11/2004 09:34

It is odd that the American election has so much impact on the rest of the world, but a majority of American voters couldn't care less about the rest of the world - and see it entirely as a domestic issue. I guess that is a function of America being such a huge country.

Mommy2Ro · 03/11/2004 09:37

I'm American (living in London).
I voted for Kerry (via absentee ballot).
I do care about the rest of the world (always have).
And I'm gutted.

throckenholt · 03/11/2004 09:39

Mommy2Ro - which state do you vote in ? Did your vote at least make a difference there ?

Tinker · 03/11/2004 09:42

Depressing stuff. On the BBC last night they talked to a Bush voter who commented about America not "having a Madrid" implying that being good because "they're over there". You could cry couldn't you?

velcrobott · 03/11/2004 09:42

DH was saying this AM that it's good if Bush goes to the White House again as Kerry would probably have a hard time sorting out this mess (I guess DH is trying to see it in a positive light!).

I wonder if Bush's re-election doesn't "guarantee" Blair's none re-election !!! ???? Could it be our lucky day

JJ · 03/11/2004 09:53

OMG, I'm scaring myself with how furious I feel. My parents are expecting me to call them this afternoon and I'm too angry to even talk to them. And we've discussed it rationally up until now. Wish I didn't feel like this.

There's no way that Kerry can win Ohio, I think. He'd have to get 75% of the uncounted votes if there actually are 250,000 and a higher percentage if there are less.

Like most other American MNers, I voted for Kerry via absentee ballot (in IL).
