JW mother refuses blood transfusion and dies leaving newborn twins

report

"We can't believe she died after childbirth in this day and age, with all the technology there is."

They all share the responsibility for her death - her family, his family, the church, all of them. Can they really believe they all did the right thing?

The JW argument about not taking blood through the veins run thus:

If the Doctor told you you couldn't drink alcohol, you wouldn't think it was OK to take it through your veins instead.

However, I personally think they've mixed up the letter of the law with the spirit of it. And the WTBTS has shot themselves in the foot consistency-wise by saying it's now ok to have blood fractions.

mad4mybaby · 05/11/2007 14:16

yes your right but its not a case of 'brainwashing' or a 'cult' as alot of people seem to make out...

PositivelyMellow · 05/11/2007 14:17

Lulu - I cannot say I agree with JW and their Religion but I live with it so therefore accept it, now.

I just hate seeing so much rubbish in text and that was not any of mmj posts, I actually agree with some of her ones.

Er - what?

How can they use that as an argument against blood transfusions?

lulu - prob not as most people here dont agree with it anyway so what would be the point? People just get knarked

SueBaroo · 05/11/2007 14:20

WendyWeber, because there is a part of the bible that talks about 'abstaining from blood'.

Lulumamaintheskywithfireworks · 05/11/2007 14:21

fair enough

Obv I speak as one with little or no knowledge of JW beliefs but why do they preach door to door then if they only want to tell you what they believe? I was under the impression that a big part of the religion is to convert and 'save' people? Everyone but them will die on Judgement day won't they? Or is that twisted aswell?

WendyWeber · 05/11/2007 14:23

But as an argument against blood transfusions it's completely illogical! We need blood in our veins - we don't need alcohol in them (even if some of us have rather more than we should going round as well )

mmj - i didnt say stop talking about it. Theres too much to say here so the best thing for those of you who really want to know what JW's believe is to contact them directly and they will be more than happy to tell you. Im sure you will have a kingdom hall somewhere near to where you live........

SueBaroo · 05/11/2007 14:25

LaSM, I presume the term is more to do with them not wanting to 'force' anyone. Of course they want you to be convinced by their beliefs, because they believe them to be true, but there's no sense of co-ercion, other than the pressure one might feel on the doorstep.

SueBaroo · 05/11/2007 14:26

WendyWeber, and you've just given the best argument against the alcohol comparison.

I have had jw's knock on my door and when I said "no thank you" she put her foot in the door to stop me from closing it. And when I finally did close the door she rang the bell again.

So that's unintrusive is it?

And to my knowledge court orders are generally obtained when children are involved which does make somewhat of a mockery of the belief system as the devout believers don't have to make the decision for their children - the courts will take over and do it on their behalf
