report

"We can't believe she died after childbirth in this day and age, with all the technology there is."

They all share the responsibility for her death - her family, his family, the church, all of them. Can they really believe they all did the right thing?

I think that the fact that their mother died, and her reasons for dying, would be particularly difficult to explain to the children as they get older. i would imagine that teenage rebelion, plus this inforation would be exceptionally tough to deal with.

You are straying quite a little bit from the actual topic of the thread are you not?

"What gives them the right to come to our door etc etc etc bla bla bla"!!!!

I had a very dear friend who died in childbirth, who very clearly understood the risks she was taking when getting pregnant (she had a heart condition).

One specialist advised her not to get pregnant, another supported her freedom to choose.

I cannot blame her for leaving her husband and daughter (who's now 8) behind but I do feel very sad that can't share the joy.

I have very mixed feelings about the JW stance on blood products - although I support their right to decide it does seem a very arbitrary thing to forbid, especially as it harks back to when such a thing as a lifesaving blood transfusion wasn't even thought of.

I'm a blood donor and I feel proud that I have helped to save people's lives with this simple act.

yes, they devlop and progress into a lot of bollocks by people who know very little or nothing about the JW.

Have fun.

Imo people lose the right to have their beliefs respected when those beliefs and their consequences impact on others.
If the woman in question here had had an illness and had refused a blood transfusion and that had resulted in her death that is one thing. But the consequences of her decision to refuse a blood transfusion are that two innocent children have been born into this world without a mother.

Why should we respect a religion that advocates that?

LaylaandSethsmum · 05/11/2007 14:08

Hear hear MMJ! we are all ears.

PositivelyMellow · 05/11/2007 14:08

No I cannot be bothered. I can swear and flounce if I choose too.

One sec I shall ask dh. Oh no he cannot be bothered either.

PM, this is a really great opportunity to put across the truth behind what we have read
if people have got the wrong end of the stick, maybe it would be good to clarify ?

Blandmum · 05/11/2007 14:13

regarding the alternatives that can be acceptable to (some) JW. They can use plasma expanders, and collect the patient's own shed blood, if the procedure is a planned one.

Plasma itself will not be acceptable to most JW as it is derived from whole blood transfusions. In this class the poor woman would have needed blood cells, which couldn't be given via plasma expanders.

there is a drug that will stimulate the production of red blood cells by the person's own bone marrow, and some jw will use this, but not all. Sadly the drug, erythropoetin, will not work fast enough in such a life and death situation. It would work if you were a little anaemic and needed a transfusion, but not fast enough in this case.

you'd have to go back a few pages.. Also as haychee points out they do try to tell you what they believe ... not trying to 'convert' you as it is oddly put

Lulumamaintheskywithfireworks · 05/11/2007 14:14

i do enjoy a good debate, and learning about new things, especially if what is in the public domain is a misrepresentation

am really only lurking as i am trying to bake some biscuits

PositivelyMellow · 05/11/2007 14:14

okay mmj I am sorry. [honest]

All I said was try to read up on things before you post. I do not go onto threads about example: breastfeeding because I have never done it, I could not advise.

Things like this article in "The Sun" happen every day, it is only because it is not reported every day we/you do not read/know about it.

Anyway, that's all I have to say.
