report

"We can't believe she died after childbirth in this day and age, with all the technology there is."

They all share the responsibility for her death - her family, his family, the church, all of them. Can they really believe they all did the right thing?

Not something I ever understand, but I guess it was her choice. Poor babies

Oh, how very very sad.

But one must never doubt the depth of someones faith. They said she would have wanted to stand by her principles.

I know if it were me, I would have wanted someone to say "bugger her principles" but then I am not a JW & don't know the extent of their ethos.

LilRedWG · 05/11/2007 09:04

I echo MamaG. I will never understand this, but we do live in a free society and it was her choice.

ShinyHappyRocketsGoingBANG · 05/11/2007 09:04

"fucked up religion".. think you may have offended them with that MMJ!

It is a said consequence of people's misguided beliefs about God's "requirements" of us. I may not be a particurly enlightened person in many respects, but I believe what I say there with every fibre of my being. (Sorry for sounding dramatic!!)

sad not said.

Carmenere · 05/11/2007 09:05

More madness in the name of God FFS. Really and truly what kind of deity would want two babies to go without their mother? It totally goes against my understanding of God and makes me angry. MEN made up these 'laws' ffs

dooley1 · 05/11/2007 09:06

that is so

ShinyHappyRocketsGoingBANG · 05/11/2007 09:14

They do indeed Carmenere. Human being's crazy ideas about what God requires of us lead to all the problems ever encountered by different religions, most notably, war.

Budabang · 05/11/2007 09:18

I may be wrong but Lissie posted about this. The girl who died was her sister's friend.

fawkeoff · 05/11/2007 09:19

how does someone choose to do that????.IMO the JW movement should be prosecuted for willing the end of life if transfusion comes into the equation....utter madness.poor babies

lissietothosefireworks · 05/11/2007 09:20

yes, this was my little sisters friend

her parents and husband decided to over-rule her and give her a transfusion. unfortunately it was too late. emma was a devout JW and believed in the principles of her church. i dont think it is right and i think every day of those poor babies, but a little respect please.

having read what mildmannered has just linked i have to say that they are no more than slaves lining the pockets of the men at the top of the hierachy.that religion has nothing to do with true hope or belief, it is about greed and power over people

morocco · 05/11/2007 09:37

that is a tragedy very but i would defend to the last our right to do what we want with our own bodies, different matter if she had been demanding the transfusion and been overruled on religious grounds. we luckily don't live in that kind of society

fawkeoff · 05/11/2007 09:37

i am truly sorry for the family and everyone affected by this sad event

lissietothosefireworks · 05/11/2007 09:40

no i dont. but then i am not religious. i was raised a catholic and as such believed that if i ate meat on a friday i would go to hell. if i didnt go to mass and confession regularly i would go to hell. religion is built on love and fear and none of it is right or needful. for this reason i lapsed years ago, but i still prayed when i heard about emma because when the chips are down faith is what you have left, emma's faith was different to yours but it gave her comfort.

goingfor3 · 05/11/2007 09:40

What I don't understand is why they did't give her one of the alternatives to blood, there is something that JW's use instead of blood. The story was in The Sun many facts will have been omited to sensationalise the story. I really feel for the poor family.

Blu · 05/11/2007 09:46

Pruners - that is a difficult moral dilemma, though.

People often take action to save people in the process of committing suicide - including when the person is a 'fully grown woman' who has made a decision.

We all know that in extremis our decisions may be diffrerent from how we imagined them when it was hypothetical - Emma made one decision before she was a mother...and wasn't in a position to re-assess her decision.

Actualy, I think it is deeply tragic that her family did change thier minds - but it was too late. they now don't even have the comfort that their religion would have given them, iyswim.

Poor twins.
