Gobsmacked at BBCs lack of coverage of the weather events that have been unfolding in Sheffield since 8am, thousands of businesses across the city have been letting staff leave from early afternoon, hundreds of road closures/rail services and busses stopped prior to rush hour times, it’s still hammering down with rain, hundreds have been trapped in meadow hall!! If this had been London I’m sure it would have had more than 75 seconds of coverage!!

Flood defences have been improved since 2007 but they are being breached today, Imagine if they hadn’t been improved!! I’m not sure when the rivers are expected to peak either but it’s still raining cat and dogs

According to the news dozens of people spent the night in Meadowhall.

EdithWeston · 08/11/2019 07:36

Worksop hit badly overnight, and concerns, and floods in Doncaster where the Don has burst its banks. Many other places affected - number of flood warnings up to 120.

About 3.5 inches of rain in 24 hours, and water levels set to rise.

(Some coverage of Breakfast, it's first story but fairly brief)

RandomMess · 08/11/2019 08:10

I really hope it doesn't get worse for everyone Sad

Ginfordinner · 08/11/2019 08:25

It's stopped raining!
Doncaster is bearing the brunt of it now Sad

TheQueef · 08/11/2019 08:31

I hope anyone having to travel today are careful, remember it's still chaotic and the water will still rise.

Good luck if you are out in it.

It took me 45 mins to drive 500 yards just to find route closed to sheff (info was sketchy about which sections and sides of roads that are closed) so it took me 45mind to drive back 500 yards home, but I am able to work from home so that’s what I’m doing, water is still running off land and down roads in sheff south even thou it’s stopped raining ☔️

Levels won't peak until some time later today, according to the report I've just heard. A very worrying time

Nononoandno · 08/11/2019 10:45

Angua

I live about 35 miles from Sheffield. Yesterday me and DH had to go to buy dog food (a journey of about 10 miles) and every road apart from ours had quite a lot of water on it. We came back about 2 hours later and the water was pretty deep in places and some roads had been closed.

Our road had quite a lot of water on it and our back garden was covered by about 2 inches of water. Luckily our back door is up a step so no water came in.

We are pretty high up and not near any rivers so I thought we could never flood. The water though was coming off the fields, literally pouring off them in some places.

Thankfully the sun is out today and the water in the garden has almost all gone

Weather forecast is for temperatures down to -4 tonight over flooded areas and maybe snow 🙈, so South Yorkshire will be one be big ice rink, but at least it will be the weekend and some freezing water might hold back some water for a while.... more rain is forecast tomorrow thou x

thenightsky · 08/11/2019 11:08

The forecast is for freezing tonight, so that's going to make the roads 'interesting' tomorrow. God I hate driving on slippy roads. Sad

Ginfordinner · 08/11/2019 11:17

Has anyone been on Twitter and searched for Meadowhall? Some of the posts on there are completely inappropriate.

Doormat247 · 08/11/2019 11:31

I've just seen coverage now as breaking news - because it's moving south and they're getting amber warnings Hmm.
Never mind that we're already flooded up north, who needs to hear about that? Angry.

Nononoandno · 08/11/2019 11:40

Yes I’ve noticed now 24 hours later bbc have Noticed the flooding Situation at now its their first story in the tv

Horrendous weather and my heart goes out to anyone suffering a flooded home.

So now maybe the ravages of climate changes will be realised.

I hope everyone stays safe in all the affected areas, especially tough if it all freezes.

I don't think I've seen mentioned anywhere on tv news or radio that lgb have left lgbtq+. There's a lot of news that bbc seem to 'miss'. I agree with others, its more about westminster, not even politics generally. I know westminster is where all the country's political rulings are made, but even that is limited to certain common topics.

Sadly too much brexit and ge and cross party divisions has ruled the news since the ref.

Stay safe all.

Ginfordinner · 08/11/2019 12:45

Flowers. Oh god thats just gone through me, how awful. This is absolutely dire if lives are being lost.

How dreadful. Just shocking, and now temps will drop drastically and bring further risk,to life if pipes are bursting and not heating.

Have the army been called in to create barriers and bailey bridges yet?
