Gobsmacked at BBCs lack of coverage of the weather events that have been unfolding in Sheffield since 8am, thousands of businesses across the city have been letting staff leave from early afternoon, hundreds of road closures/rail services and busses stopped prior to rush hour times, it’s still hammering down with rain, hundreds have been trapped in meadow hall!! If this had been London I’m sure it would have had more than 75 seconds of coverage!!

More than 3 weeks of rain in one day!!

Its still lashing it down here too (about 50 mins from Sheffield).

If it was London we'd never hear the end of it.

It took me 2 hours to drive 4 miles home from sheff city centre and I left at 4pm!
I dread to think what the picture will look like in the morning as rain still pouring and set to continue until rush hour tomorrow.

I was just looking at the most recent pictures of outside the Meadowhall and thinking the same, it would be breaking news if it was London!

If it were London they would be looting not buying cheap pjs from Primark and duvets

I’m a Londoner and I stopped watching BBC news ages ago because their priorities are insane. I think the evening standard would have pages of it but not the BBC!

This is what it is like living in Scotland. We often laugh at the panic on the news when London gets a dusting of snow. Carnage!!!!!

Despite their assertions to the contrary, the BBC is still very London/ South East centric. Not so long ago, people my part of the country were up to our eyeballs in snow. It was barely mentioned on the national news. The following day, two snowflakes fell on London and it was headline news. I wish I was exaggerating but sadly I’m not.

Nono.. Dh and I have just said exactly the same thing. There was a teaser at the beginning of the news, with pictures of wood seats,... and then hardly anything else at all. Whole city was in chaos this evening and barely a mention

Lancashire had no drinking water for many weeks and it got 2 minutes on the today programme after a month.

That day a bus strike in London got top billing.

I think many criticisms of the BBC are overstated but the broadcast news doesn't know most of the UK exists. That includes working class Londoners as much as it does everything north of Watford.

The recent trend to show a token vox-pop of what the commoners in a pub in Hull think about Brexit has not altered the fundamentals.

Storm Desmond the entire city and surrounding area had no electricity for 36 hours and then only daytime electricity for a week.

So you couldn't buy fuel or food or get cash out, no phones, no mobile reception, major roads closed for 3 days and it didn't get much mention at all apparently.

If you had an analogue radio the information was to check on line for the latest info...

We are so London centric it's shocking tbh.

I haven't even mentioned large parts were flooded too!

Barely a mention of the homes evacuated because the rain caused a landslide in Mansfield. Fortunately, no injuries.

I was reading the BBC news on the app earlier and there is so little on there about anything other than politics

The weather is the first news on the website now. I work in Sheffield and we were sent home early. Hundreds of people were trapped in Meadowhall because the stupid organisers didn't cancel the lights switch on until 5pm!

It has been truly awful today.

I thought the same in that at 4pm local radio said Meadowhall lights switch on was still going ahead! What madness! I hope someone bollocks Meadowhall

That's ridiculous that Meadowhall took until then to cancel it! Yorkshire water evacuated thier treatment works just next to Meadowhall at 2.30 so Meadowhall should have done the same!

Are people getting out of Meadowhall now? I’m guessing it’s not as bad as last time (yet)? Don’t think the water has got into the lower level like last time?

Yes people are being supported to leave Meadowhall with sounds of it although they can stay if they wish as most would struggle to get home due to how many roads are flooded across sheff
