the ausi was Peter Falconio I think, but can't remember his girlfriend's name. She was odd though, came across as totally out of it/emotionless, and obviously the media would have jumped on that which is probably why people would have jumped to conclusions.

Joanne Lees
totally innocent

"If that was my child I would sell everything, everything I have, my house, my furniture, cash in all my savings, before I even considered ever going to the public and asking for money."

where are they suposed to live with their twins then? In council housing?

The money is helping the search, it's allowing the McCanns to keep the case in the public eye, to stay over in Portugal. They can't pay for a private search because they can't interfere with what the Portugese police are dling.

wannaBe · 10/08/2007 14:45

but they're not living in the house are they? They're living in rented accommodation which the fund is paying for, each to their own I guess, but I just think that asking for money when you have money is wrong.

When Ben Needham went missing, his family had to sell everything to try to find him, and after two months they had to leave Cos with nothing, not even the money to pay for air fairs. But that was what they had to do because the money just wasn't there.

If it transpires that one of the party was responsible for Madeleine's death, not saying parents, but if it was one of the others in the party, or even if it was one of the parents, what happens to that money then?

Thanks Compo - Joanne Lees

Wannabe - yes that is exactly my point

"She was odd though, came across as totally out of it/emotionless, and obviously the media would have jumped on that which is probably why people would have jumped to conclusions"

People concocted the most bizarre ideas about her being involved etc because of how she "came across". So because she isn't engageing and weeping and doing what Eastenders says she should do she is mmediately suspicious. She went through that ordeal and then had to try and be dignified through disgusting speculation because of how she appeared in the news!
I always have a sneaking suspicion that people who say "if x happened to me I would do y" have never really experience a huge shock or trauma. I think we rarely can predict how we would behave in extreme situations. I remeber my best friend being mugged. He was nearly six foot rugby player and he instantly handed cash over and stood rooted to the spot. His tiny 5ft 2" girlfriend legged it after muggers !
People always say "if anyone harmed my child I would do that person harm" but how often do you actually read of a parent hurting or killing someone in that situation? Far more commonly I have heard people express forgiveness which I find surprising but it does seem to happen.
People are complex.
( whoa = profound or what )

IIRC the money in the fund would be donated to help othe mising children.

I can't see the problem with the fund- i don't wish to donate, so I won't. Some peole clearly wish to use their money in that way. free world, and all that.

Sell their house? yes but- surely the two other children ahev aright to a family home to return to? Theya re aprents of 3 children, not just the one.

Pagwatch, Lucyjones - anyone else. apologies for being so harsh with my 'bitch' comments. Guess I got riled, and should have just stepped away. anyway, my apologies and no harm meant to you.

can I just say for the record. I dont think the McCanns should sell their house (not sure how I feel about the fund - another thread/debate maybe, but I wont start it and dont want to be involved in it anyway). But if and when Madeleine does come back, isnt it right that when she is bought back to the UK, that she should have her house to go back to, her room and all her lovely belongings? Just a thought.
xx
