I've just read that Alison Lapper' son Parys died last week. I didn't know either Alison or Parys but loved watching the t.v. prog and respected Alison for her determination to do things that others may have thought weren't possible.

He was only 19 and it simply seems far too young to go. I hope she has some great friends to support her x

Omg! 😢

Graphista · 27/08/2019 06:38

Omg how incredibly sad. Poor Alison and Parys.

I've also followed child of our time from the beginning as I was pregnant with dd in 2000, so she us very close in age to the children involved.

Such heartbreaking news. They had such an amazing and close bond.

RIP Parys.

Toomboom · 27/08/2019 06:46

I am so sad about this. I have watched all the programmes of child of our time, and watched him grow up. He was very similar age to my son. I cannot imagine the pain his mum is going through. RIP dear boy xxx

Very sad news RIP Parys.

I remember the show too, Alison was inspiring to watch, the bond they shared was plain to see.

ifigoup · 27/08/2019 06:48

This is such sad news. Parys was a beautiful and sensitive child and I loved what I saw of their close relationship in the programmes.

avocadoincident · 27/08/2019 06:52

I always remember the episode where Parys is getting out of a car and crossing the road under his mams verbal guidance. It was amazing and I often think of that moment. Their trust in each other was incredible.

BonnesVacances · 27/08/2019 07:48

I've just seen that too. Such a sad outcome from that inspirational story. Sad How much strength does one woman need to get through life!!

Pinkarsedfly · 27/08/2019 08:01

Oh dear, that’s desperately sad. I watched Child of Our Time avidly because my DS2 was the same age as the babies on the show.

Alison and Parys and their relationship really stood out to me. She was amazing - changing his nappy using her teeth, their fantastic bond...she was so proud of him even before he was born, celebrating her pregnancy with that amazing statue in Trafalgar Square.

I’m so sad for her.

Louisa1997 · 27/08/2019 08:07

Alison. I cried the second I saw this news. You were my role model in raising my son now 22 in thee unique way you and Parys interacted. I can only imagine the pain and loss. Peace n strength to you.x

just saw that on the BBC and remembered him from the program , how very very sad. My DS is only a couple of months older.

TheLittleDogLaughed · 27/08/2019 09:30

I know Ali personally and Parys was wonderful. I’ve not been directly in contact this last few years so I’m not sure what happened. I know it was very sudden and unexpected.

BelulahBlanca · 27/08/2019 09:35

Another avid watcher of Child Of Our Time. I read yesterday Alison called Parys her “greatest work of art”. My thoughts are with Alison and Parys’ friends and family.

DuckWillow · 27/08/2019 09:42

Such terrible news, so shocked when I read it.

Loved Child of Our Time and Parys stood out because of the relationship he had with his Mum.

I don’t know her but so hope she has lots of support around her. So hard.

Candleabra · 27/08/2019 09:49

I'm so shocked to hear this and absolutely devastated for Alison. I watched child of our time from the beginning and Parys and Alison were the standout family for me, the bond was amazing. I so admired her parenting, loving, fair and patient, but also tough and no nonsense. She raised a wonderful young man. What an absolute tragedy.

Strongtoday · 27/08/2019 09:55

Devastating. How much does one person have to contend with in life? Feels very unfair :(

user27495824 · 27/08/2019 09:58

Oh, that is desperately sad. My heart goes out to Alison.

Steppenwolverine · 27/08/2019 10:37

Life can be so cruel, this is just heartbreaking

EleanorReally · 27/08/2019 10:42

Unbelievable. I've watched Child of Our Time since the beginning, my eldest is 18 so the programme really struck a chord with me, but I wonder what on earth happened - so sad.

ZandathePanda · 27/08/2019 12:03

He was an amazing lad. So kind. Absolutely tragic.

TheLittleDogLaughed · 27/08/2019 13:04

Some very odd claims that she was pregnant whilst posing for the sculpture in 2005 but he was 19 when he died! Not sure what's going on with the facts.

StitchingMoss · 27/08/2019 13:06

He was born in the year 2000 @TheLittleDogLaughed. She wasn't pregnant when the sculpture was made.

TheLittleDogLaughed · 27/08/2019 13:33

I know that as I'm a friend of hers. I was pointing out that they say she posed for the sculpture whilst pregnant with him in 2005 - it's a mistake in the BBC article.

SunshineCake · 27/08/2019 16:19

I have just read a piece in the newspaper about Alison and Parys and was moved to tears. Alison has asked, via her fiancé, for as many "noisy motorbikes as possible to escort Parys on his final journey from her home to celebrate his life. That sentence just made me cry for his words and for the fact I just know the local and less local community will come together to fulfil this wish.

Obviously we don't know how or why Parys has died but if it was due to difficult mental health, please all support everyone in your life who you know or who might be struggling. My son is about to go to university and it terrifies me what could happen.

theunrivalledjoysofparenting · 27/08/2019 17:57

@StitchingMoss She wasn't pregnant when the sculpture was made.

Are you daft? The statue is called Alison Lapper Pregnant. Her pregnancy was the whole point. It was displayed in Trafalgar Square from 2005-7.
