Tally Ho!

Kosher meat, halal meat? That's tradition, but also cruel imo.

Yamamoto · 20/09/2004 00:20

Stupidgirl
absolutley, tradition is not a good enough reason to keep hunting the way it is, as I have said many times, hunting with horses is in my opinion, the wrong way, any fox will hear the hunt long before it arrives.

Take away the horses and you have a very effective means of control, which given the alternatives, ie shooting, poison or introducing tigers into the wild is not a bad alternative!

stupidgirl · 20/09/2004 00:25

I agree Avalon. Meat-eating is unnecessary and barbaric.

Yamamoto, out of interest, have you ever been to a hunt?

Yamamoto · 20/09/2004 00:27

tiger or fox?

Avalon · 20/09/2004 00:29

Bring back the wolves!

stupidgirl · 20/09/2004 00:34

Yamamoto, have you ever been to a hunt?

Yamamoto · 20/09/2004 00:37

Is that a "do you fancy going hunting on Saturday" sorta question???

stupidgirl · 20/09/2004 00:41

No, it's a 'do you have any experience of what you're talking about?' kinda question, though I'm sure your local hunt sabs would love to hear from you if you want to take some time to find out...

Yamamoto · 20/09/2004 00:55

I think I have a fairly balanced view on the hunting debate.

Lived with an active Sab for a while in the south but also had a big interest in racing, rode over jumps starting as an amateur which meant qualifying point to pointers by showing up at a hunt 3 times with them.

Live in the North now, partner used to hunt before children. We dont have sabs up here, never seen any.

So anyway, Ive answered your questions, you were just about to tell me how an animal at the top of the food chain self regulates if they live near a free range chicken farm?

stupidgirl · 20/09/2004 00:58

As stated before, a fox population regulates itself according to the food available.

Anyone raising free range chickens should know enough about raising chickens to know that they need secure fencing to prevent raids by foxes, or any other predators.

Yamamoto · 20/09/2004 01:00

what like the tigers?

Yamamoto · 20/09/2004 01:01

what about my chickens and ducks that walk about my yard...Lock them all up ehh!

stupidgirl · 20/09/2004 01:02

...And there was me thinking we were having a rational, grown-up debate...

stupidgirl · 20/09/2004 01:03

Now, I don't claim to know anything much about keeping ducks and chickens, but I would say certainly they would need to be put in a safe enclosure over night.

Yamamoto · 20/09/2004 01:10

If you knew 'anything' about ducks and hens you would know they are shut away at night, these birds are taken during the day by an animal that evolves to kill.
Rational debate, maybe, maybe not (perverts...)
Off now to dream nightynight!

stupidgirl · 20/09/2004 01:15

Wasn't that my point???

Foxes don't evolve to kill, they evolve to survive, just like the rest of us. They just don't have the opportunity to buy their dinner pre-packed from the supermarket.

Yamamoto · 20/09/2004 01:17

see you tommorow, nightynight!

Cam · 20/09/2004 11:47

Extreme views like "meat-eating is barbaric" prevent rational debate

MeanBean · 20/09/2004 11:52

Why Cam? You can rationally debate whether it is barbaric or not.

(I disagree with that view, but I don't agree that certain views which are considered "extreme" by some people preclude rational discussion. Although they can do in some circumstances. But I don't think this is one of them.)

Twinkie · 20/09/2004 11:53

And foxes do not self regulate according to how much food is available - they evolve to do stuff like rip our bins apart and attack our pets.

It saddens me that emotive words like perverts are used to describe people with different interests and that the phrase 'meat eating is barbaric' can be used by someone who buys leather - of course unless you wait for the poor cow to die and then skin it - mind you I think you should find that sort of desecration vile too!!

I also find the corporate sabotage, death threats and horrific behaviour of these animal rights people far more sadistic and uncivalised than hunting with hounds.

Stupidgirl if one of your kids had cancer would you allow them to be treated wioth drugs that are and have been tesetd on animals if so I think you should stand back andreally think about your stance in all of this.

Why are you guys turning inot a class thing - surely the government are looking at it in terms of animal cruelty andf class doesn't come into it.

God maybe they should come down hard on people keeping pets in high rises and stuff like that just to balance it up with the less well off!!

s for those upper class twats IMO if they are charged with anything I ill be storming some sort of governemtn building protesting at how a bunch of tossers dressed as super heros can trespass onto royal land and get away with it - even get the government to start looking more seriously at fathers rights and yet someone who is fighting for a couse they also believe in can be treated completely differently!!

IMO someone should let Blair and his hideous publicity/money/freebie hungry family into the countryside and let a hunt chase them - he is repugnant and out of touch with what is important in todays society.

Cam · 20/09/2004 12:32

Because mb to label people who eat meat as barbarians is an extreme view and therefore precludes a rational discussion. Think I'll change my name to Conrad

MrsDoolittle · 20/09/2004 12:35

CD and Teinkie I share your sentiments.
Is anyone aware of the fact that a little boy was shot dead by his stepfather who thought he was killing a fox?
This suggests to me that shooting foxes in order to control them is not going to work either.

MrsDoolittle · 20/09/2004 12:36

Sorry, Twinkie. I didn't preview my message!
