This story made me feel v today, in the Mirror (sorry cant do link) all about the soldiers walking in on an orphanage in Iraq where starving little boys were all lying on the concrete dying in the 120F heat.
in the same building their food was being stashed away ready to be sold on for profit..the poor children were like skeletons and covered in their own faeces etc and tied up to the walls.
States all the soldiers were in tears on making their horrible discovery.
Most of the children were too traumatised to talk or move.

the bbc have it here

Don't look at link if sensitive (contains images).

Is a terrible story. The larder was full and there were brand new clothes in a cupboard.

What kind of person can do that?

allgonebellyup · 21/06/2007 13:39

thanks for link armadillo

makes me so fking angry, i want to literally kill those evil selfish fuckers selling the food on

those poor children

i heard this on the news but couldn't bring myself to watch it's so awful

TheArmadillo · 21/06/2007 13:46

It was a state run orphanage for children with SN apparently.

The staff were still living there and cooking themselves meals when the soldiers got there - they have since disappeared.

The boys are beginning to recover after being moved to another orphanage.

HOw can anyone do that to children

iota · 21/06/2007 13:48

I saw a bit of this on the TV last night - truly shocking.

Those poor kids

tiredemma · 21/06/2007 13:48

Saw this on the news, the boys were lay naked like dogs on the floor- all laying over each other.

FrannyandZooey · 21/06/2007 13:49

Is it possible to keep news titles less specific please such as

"very upsetting situation with orphans in Iraq"

thank you

ruty · 21/06/2007 13:51

so terribly sad.

doobypoo · 21/06/2007 13:58

It was and is indeed terrible.I saw some of the 'caring' side of the army on the news. This story came out 2 days after the military blew up civillians, including children...cynical moi?Yep.

Mrscarrot · 21/06/2007 14:03

I second Franny.

I avoid the news at the moment because I can't take on board the horror.

Please use less detail in the thread title.

donnie · 21/06/2007 14:10

I am not going to open the link because I do not want to see the images. Can someone tell me who was selling the food intended for the children?

TheArmadillo · 21/06/2007 14:14

They think the staff at the orphange were. There was food in the cupboards and new clothes and everything but the children were naked and starved.

The staff were there when they arrived but disappeared.

The reason they think is because they were selling the food/clothes etc.

ruty · 21/06/2007 14:18

Have to say there are plenty of special needs orphanages all over the world where the children are very badly treated and deprived of supplies intended for them. Eastern Europe too.

donnie · 21/06/2007 14:18

how awful. Reminds me of the horrors of orphanages in Romania being revealed after the Ceaucescus were executed

TaylorsMummy · 21/06/2007 15:58

was very nearly sick when i saw these photos in the mirror today

can not believe the bloody people who worked there, cooking themselves food whilst those children lay there starving and covered in flies and shit

allgonebellyup · 21/06/2007 16:32

oh god im SO sorry if my title offended those of you who dont want your perfect little lives ruined by WHATS ACTUALLY GOING ON IN THE REAL WORLD.

if you dont like the look of a thread then dont read it. i didnt make anyone look at any pics.

Now go back to burying your heads in the sand and sing la la la , life is lovely in my little world, la la la

OP posts:
allgonebellyup · 21/06/2007 16:33

ruty, yes sadly what you say is true

OP posts:
Mrscarrot · 21/06/2007 17:04

You didn't need to read the thread though, allgonebellyup, it was all gratuitously in the title.

Thank goodness for people like you on mnet, keeping us up to date with the real world so we don't bury our heads in the sand and acknowledge on a daily basis how much suffering there is.

allgonebellyup · 21/06/2007 17:17

ok next time i will just title it "slight problem with some random kids,in inferior developing country"

OP posts:
flibbertyjibbet · 21/06/2007 17:21

Whats wrong with a thread title that tells you what the thread is about?

There is another thread at the mo entitled something like 'question about bum sex'. No one has objected to that graphic title!
I saw this on the beeb, initially I turned away thinking I didn't want to watch it, but I did see the pictures and cried.

Mrscarrot · 21/06/2007 17:23

No, orphans and Iraq next to 'In the News' would be enough for people to know what it was about, I'm sure.

I just felt there was an element of 'ooh, look at this tragedy' to your thread title.

Mrscarrot · 21/06/2007 17:25

actually, I apologise for the 'ooh' that was unnecessary.

allgonebellyup · 21/06/2007 18:33

it was "look at this tragedy" !

OP posts:
Mrscarrot · 21/06/2007 19:01

sorry, should have written it in full to make my meaning clear.

I apologise for the 'ooh, look at this tragedy', it was unnecessary, and implied you were gratuitously revelling in the horror of it, which of course I would not presume.

I would just prefer not to read all the horrific details in the title. Maybe Franny and I are the only ones. I will go now and leave you to your discussion of the news.

allgonebellyup · 21/06/2007 19:40

ok sorry
