It appears the children and teacher have been found alive.
Has a miracle happened ?
I am so delighted and hope they will be ok after their horrific ordeal.
It's always nice to see good news as lately all the headlines are of something bad having happened.
Please forgive me if there is already a thread on this topic.

summer I thought exactly as you did and hope I am wrong

AngeloMysterioso · 09/07/2018 00:39

Have been reading Elon Musk’s twitter feed about the mini submersible they’ve developed which is now on its way to Thailand. It’s absolutely tiny. He’s actually been taking suggestions from people too, like adding an MP3 player so the boys can listen to music which can help them stay calm. Really impressed with him (although it could all just be a PR move I guess)

I think the coach is an absolute hero here. He’s kept them alive and positive through all of this his teaching them to meditate will prove invaluable for what I can only imagine is the first time divers expedition from hell.

Whirliegigspiders · 09/07/2018 00:55

Agree. Disgusted with the hatred of the cos
Coach on fb. He's 20 ffs

QuinquiremeOfNineveh · 09/07/2018 01:42

BBC reporting that it looks as if the rescue operation is about to resume.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 09/07/2018 01:47

Hoping for more good news in the morning.
Those poor parents must be out of their minds Sad

BarbaraofSevillle · 09/07/2018 02:43

They have been diving for hours, and need to be fully alert all the time every dive. They cannot do that if sleep deprived, it would risk everyone's lives

^^ This. Diving is surprisingly tiring, even when its serene pootling about in lovely clear calm water. Here they are fighting currents and squeezing through gaps.

There's also the decompression issue. Most of the diving isn't deep, so might not be limiting, but they need to recover from that. The escape diagram includes a '30 metre' section suggesting they have to dive to 30 metres, which does have issues when diving repeatedly.

Also, how fast can they fill all these air cylinders they need? I've seen pictures of hundreds of cylinders and l imagine they have brought in loads of compressors if there wasn't an existing facility locally, but sorting thay would have taken time and needs a good power supply.

Then they have to reassemble kit and resupply all the underwater air stations, which could take time by more divers, who also need to rest and recover, additional to those accompanying the boys out. This takes time and is risky in itself, as demonstrated by the poor man who died doing this.

Hopefully everything will go to plan and the water in the caves won't rise past what they can cope with, but even if it does, it might take another couple of days to get everyone out and just hoping hoping hoping that the mission is 100% successful.

Jonathan Miller of Channel4 news tweeting that rains have been falling heavily since last night...

StealthPolarBear · 09/07/2018 06:15

Don't they have loads of divers though? Are there only a small group who can actually do this and the rest are just helping

WinnieTheW0rm · 09/07/2018 06:37

"Don't they have loads of divers though? Are there only a small group who can actually do this and the rest are just helping?"

Correct - this is seriously specialised, highly technical diving. There is (international) team of rescue cave specialists, plus SEALS for the less specialised support tasks, which are still dangerous, and which have cost one life already.

StealthPolarBear · 09/07/2018 07:21

Thanks.

Wishfulmakeupping · 09/07/2018 07:30

I thought that their plan was to bring them out in small groups but only slightly staggered it’s the big gap from bringing the first boys out to the second attempt.
Agree about the conflicting news reports CNN and bbc both reporting the strongest being brought out first/weakest.

RideSallyRide76 · 09/07/2018 07:35

They're seeming pretty consistent now that the weakest came out first. They have released names and said that one child was a "code red" but he's stabilised now.

Beginning to feel optimistic that this will have a happy ending, if those were the weakest boys.

AdventuresRUs · 09/07/2018 07:37

News reports are saying the Australia doctor chnaged the plan from taking strongest to taking the weakest after assessing them.

I guess it was getting more important to get the weaker ones out. I would so hate to be making the decisions in those kind of situations.

TheBiologicalWoman · 09/07/2018 07:41

I'm really concerned about the rain and not feeling as optimistic as yesterday.

Please let this work out, I wish for only this today.

Delatron · 09/07/2018 07:43

Yes I read the same about the doctor switching the strategy round. Seems like a good call.

Do we have a time we can expect the next group out? They were quite clear on timings yesterday.

SummerGems · 09/07/2018 08:04

Very little reporting from the site this morning, with bbc saying they’ve had no confirmation that rescue has re-commenced. But bbc are also saying that seven ambulances were seen driving towards the caves. Only seven? If the reports from yesterday are accurate then there are still eight boys and the coach in there which makes nine. But if as I can’t help thinking, the initial report of six is correct then that would explain why only seven ambulances. It simply doesn’t make sense that they would already be aiming to leave two in there overnight again..

Not feeling optimistic about this at all tbh.

Delatron · 09/07/2018 08:07

Yes, I would have thought the next rescue mission would be underway by now. I understand that the divers needed to rest and replenish oxygen but I was expecting to wake to more news and some info on timings.

Especially if it is raining and a real race against time. Hoping for some positive news soon.

AdventuresRUs · 09/07/2018 08:11

Maybe theres ambulances for the boys and some extra in case divers need them??

AdventuresRUs · 09/07/2018 08:13

If they only did do 4 yesterday it would be a huge stretch to manage 9 in the same timing wouldnt it. The people making decisions as to who to rescue :and the order - i cant truly imagine. I am in awe of all the specialised divers and doctors etc.

StealthPolarBear · 09/07/2018 08:14

Bbc news says at least seven ambulances

SummerGems · 09/07/2018 08:15

Perhaps. But media is very, very quiet. Even twitter which is usually full of chatter albeit some of it is totally inane is very, very quiet about this. I’d say unusually quiet even.

There does need to be a lot of silence around some of the media reporting, in order to protect the families etc but this is different.

DamsonGin · 09/07/2018 08:17

If they brought out the weakest yesterday, including one who much weaker, they probably would have had to tow them along and or carry them for parts, on top of all their dive kit. It'll have been knackering. I'm sure they know the balance of risks but tired divers who can't concentrate is quite an important one. I'm happy to be patient that the best team are out there and none of them want to lose any of the kids or any more adults. We'll hear when we hear.

SummerGems · 09/07/2018 08:20

I’m wondering though, if the water has risen significantly overnight, is it possible they may have to decide to leave the rest behind until the end of the season as was originally a consideration? Doesn’t bear thinking about for those who have seen mates rescued or for the parents but given the rate at which the rain falls it’s a possibility surely?

AdventuresRUs · 09/07/2018 08:22

I thought that was ruled our due to rising water meaning their little ledge wasnt guaranteed safe/ build up of waste/ carbon dioxide .

They also have the tube (?!?!) And elons submarine (?!?!) Onsite by now...

peridito · 09/07/2018 08:54

I'm hoping that machinery and help with pumping is arriving from the Netherlands .

I remember reading that attempts to upgrade the power supply to the area to meet the additional demands was underway .Hope it's been achieved .And that access through the rain and mud is possible .
