It appears the children and teacher have been found alive.
Has a miracle happened ?
I am so delighted and hope they will be ok after their horrific ordeal.
It's always nice to see good news as lately all the headlines are of something bad having happened.
Please forgive me if there is already a thread on this topic.

The British Cave Rescue Council is reliant on donations to cover the operating costs of the organisation. The total UK team (assisting in Thailand) consists of seven experienced cave divers and three non-divers in support to deal with communications into the cave and to provide general support.
Donations can be made via The BCRC site

I understand the Israelis have some very fancy communications stuff that they have taken over.

The boys may not still be in chamber 9, they may have been moved. Chamber six looks to be big, presumably they are where it is thought to be safest. Lots of work now to fill and redeploy cylinders.

SummerGems · 08/07/2018 19:03

I am reticent to suggest this. But the BBC site still suggests that early reports were that six boys had been brought out and that this was then revised to four.

I wonder if it’s possible that six boys were brought out but that two either didn’t survive or are in a bad way and they need to know first whether they’ll pull through but can’t announce anything more until the rescue has completed?

QuackPorridgeBacon · 08/07/2018 19:05

SummerGems I hope this isn’t the case.

53rdWay · 08/07/2018 19:05

Think it’s more likely there was confusion in initial reports - news of 2 boys out, then 4 boys out, which some people heard as 4 + 2 rather than 4 including 2. I’m sure had there been 6 ambulances leaving the scene that would have been reported.

Delatron · 08/07/2018 19:07

SummerGems that was my worry. The BBC are normally very accurate and careful before rushing to report anything. I hope this isn't the case.

peridito · 08/07/2018 19:09

It was reported that the boys would be brought out in groups - first a group of 4 .followed by groups of 3 .

So I think 4 coming out sounds right .Someone upthread suggested that the number 6 was a misconception arising from 4 boys and 2 divers coming out ..

SummerGems · 08/07/2018 19:10

I know - the reporting has been very differing not least because it’s coming from all manner of sources. And some saying ambulances, some saying helicopters and some saying four where others say six and so on and so forth. Although now that the boys have contact with the outside world it’s going to be crucial to keep any kind of talk upbeat and positive even if any of them don’t make it through because this is partly what is going to give them the strength to make it out.

I can’t imagine what it must be like as a parent knowing that some boys are out and that if yours isn’t one of them there are still no guarantees. Sad. I do hope that the coach is not given a hard time though.

peridito · 08/07/2018 19:11

pesty thank you for your post and information .

And the link for donations .

AdventuresRUs · 08/07/2018 19:11

I wonderred that Summer. And with the different numbers of helicppters and ambulances quoted.

Lets hope not. We want all the divers and boys back safely.

Delatron · 08/07/2018 19:12

Yes and some reports are saying the weakest were brought out first, others say the strongest.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 08/07/2018 19:24

This sounds right.

AdventuresRUs · 08/07/2018 19:26

That sounds more likely. I hope so.

Id heard one news of 3 ambulances and another of several helicopters. But reporters are getting to the point of saying something just for the sake of saying something to keep updates.

PestymcPestFace · 08/07/2018 19:34

The one the ground BBC reporters (in a pineapple field) say four ambulances.

Summer I have worried about that also.

Shednik · 08/07/2018 21:17

I had that same awful thought Summer.

AdventuresRUs · 08/07/2018 21:45

Skynews has 2 helicopters and video footage of one. I wonder if the extra was just transporting people or divers for medical attention.

QuinquiremeOfNineveh · 08/07/2018 22:00

On a side note, in this case the publicity has been helpful in alerting international experts who could possibly help. But one has to wonder whether all the news teams on the ground are often just making things more difficult for the local authorities, not just here but in earthquakes, floods and so on. They take up space on the roads, use resources such as fuel and water which may be in short supply, and generally get in the way. In this case, the local authorities have had to set up a media camp with toilets, foodstalls and so on, and no doubt there'll need to be a big clean up operation afterwards. I hope the big organisations such as the bbc and sky cover their costs, and clean up after themselves, and make a contribution to community projects in the area.

WinnieTheW0rm · 08/07/2018 22:21

The international community of top notch cave rescuers is tiny, they all know each other, and they did not need the presence of the media to get them there. Just as the relative absence of media coverage does not mean that a number of other rescue divers are not dealing with the tragedy in Phuket, nor indeed that some personnel have shuttled between to Theo,

The offers of untested equipment, some of which is obviously unsuitable (such as a mini-sub too big for the pinch points), might be because of the publicity. But whether it is actually helpful, or is taking time/effort away from other tasks, is moot.

Pupsiecola · 08/07/2018 22:29

I've got an uneasy feeling about this. I read that 6 boys were due to be taken out, but they were only able to rescue 4. I wonder why they would have changed their mind before setting off with them.

WinnieTheW0rm · 08/07/2018 22:34

Lots of contradictory ccounts - for example I've seen that the plan was 4/3/3/3 ;looks like a formation for football coming home

Bottom line:that level of detail hasn't been released and any speculation or feelings arising from that speculation, us just invention.

Pupsiecola · 08/07/2018 22:37

Yes you're right Winnie. I'm going to bed thinking of those boys and hoping for good news when I wake up. Everything crossed.

BrieAndChilli · 08/07/2018 22:44

@Pupsiecola
I read that they didn’t have enough air tanks enroute to take any more kids out. I assume that more air was used in the rescue than thought (easy to do espcially if the kids aren’t used to regulating their breathing and in a stressful situation will be breathing faster)
I think they want to err on the side of caution. Quit while they were ahead before people started getting tired or rushing etc.
I am sure that overnight they will be able to assess the success so far and learn from it eg have more air in place. etc.

Pupsiecola · 08/07/2018 22:47

Thanks @brieandchilli that makes sense. It would be beyond amazing if they can get them all out. Let's hope there is more good news tomorrow.

AuntieStella · 08/07/2018 22:51

I've read in several places that they need to position a new set of tanks along the route, and that the key cave dive experts need to rest before going in again to get the next lot. They have been diving for hours, and need to be fully alert all the time every dive. They cannot do that if sleep deprived, it would risk everyone's lives.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 08/07/2018 22:54

Fingers crossed that they will all.be rescued. The volunteers are amazing.
