Maybe something needs putting in place about legal aid but you choose barrister (and you have to stay with them only!) That you have a right to seek second opinion of a dr of your choice but only one etc.

That's the position under legal aid anyway. If a client wants to change solicitors or barristers or expert witnesses, there has to be a good reason for it. It inevitably increases the costs substantially as the new lawyer/expert has to duplicate work going through the papers, so it has to be justified by something other than the fact that the client just wants someone different, doesn't like the advice he's getting, etc. Contrary to popular belief, lawyers working under legal aid have to justify every penny they charge.

Yes, Dr Ranj has been very factual and informative whilst remaining sensitive and considerate. I really like his approach Smile

Bornlazy · 27/04/2018 22:57

I think that some of what TE says is difficult to understand as he has a very strong Liverpool accent and a lot of his updates are when he is walking about with lots of background noise. For example when he was showing the document with the names of the medical staff on it I thought he said "they won't sue." It was only when I read these threads that I realised he said see.

Sleeplikeasloth · 27/04/2018 23:01

Perhaps someone can help me, but when he was in the ventilator, Alfie had a dummy in, which I think was to stop him biting himself during a fit. I know he cut his lip previously when it wasn't replaced etc. Virtually all photos had the dummy.

Is he now without dummy to make it easier for him to breathe with his mouth? But doesn't he need it because if fits etc? I'm a bit confused.

Sozzler · 27/04/2018 23:13

FlyingBird and you may well be right. As I said, this was just my interpretation. However, I think much of what is being discussed on here are peoples interpretations/opinions so it's probably helpful to have contrasting ones. Nevertheless, I am going to bow out now as I don't feel comfortable debating Alfie and his family's situation in this way and am kind of wishing I had continued to avoid commenting.
Although I have spoken negatively of some comments on here I have found others very interesting and thought provoking and so will continue to follow the posts from a distance.
Although many of our opinions differ I am sure we all agree in wishing Alfie comfort and peace at this time so best wishes to all on this thread.

MynameisJune · 27/04/2018 23:19

@sleep it could be further deterioration that means he isn’t fitting or it could be that they’re taking the dummy out to get precious pictures of his face without it. We don’t know as his parents haven’t said if he is still seizing or not.

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 27/04/2018 23:29

Doctor ranj can come and discuss medical ethics with me anytime!!! 😊❤️

OpheliaStorm · 27/04/2018 23:38

@Panda81

Thanks. Wonder how they got Alfie's pic for his passport?

I sincerely hope the family will not try to abscond. But who knows.

Alfie is paramount. What is best for him? Is anyone listening?

To me, it should not be about the parents, or the supporters, or anyone except the best interests of that little boy. Only him. IMV.

I am seriously worried about that polish squad. The guy who runs this is an ex politician who has staged hostage retrievals for his TV show. He has been criticised for using his diplomatic passport to do this. I sincerely hope they are not contemplating storming the hospital to seize him. Its just too awful to imagine

Yes, from Googling the Polish "detective" squad, they look like bad bad news. I think they are hoping to get some good footage for their tv show? I hope not.

dontbesillyhenry · 28/04/2018 01:08

I've always thought they look very similar too. Not on a they could be related level but quite a coincidence

Mitochondria is passed down through the maternal line.

but at times it has been like watching vultures picking over the tragedy of a very poorly baby and it's been quite repulsive reading if I'm honest
So true.

chickhonhoneybabe · 28/04/2018 06:15

It’s such a sad story, life is so unfair and cruel at times.

Looking at the FB page, it seems the poor baby may have been struggling over night.

He does look like he’s simply sleeping, however surely the best thing at this stage would be to allow him pass peacefully?

MadameGrizzly · 28/04/2018 06:25

May you rest in peace, Alfie. Sad

MidniteScribbler · 28/04/2018 06:26

The parents have posted that he passed away at 2:30am.

ceecee32 · 28/04/2018 06:26

Hope it was a peaceful passing

chickhonhoneybabe · 28/04/2018 06:32

RIP little guy! 👼🏻

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 28/04/2018 06:34

Sleep well.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 28/04/2018 06:35

May they all finally be able to find peace.

MayhemandMadness01 · 28/04/2018 06:37

RIP Alfie

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 28/04/2018 06:37

I hope the family have all the support they need. The right kind of support.
