I've not seen a thread about it at all, but surely there must be?

I did say it was a personal theory

I don't suppose any actual facts will come out for years tbh, it'll be one of those 30 year things and as elderly pensioners in 2048 we'll all be turning up our hearing aids and going "I knew it was < insert theory here> all along!"
And for the next ten years the government will be brushing it all under the carpet and hoping we are all to stupid to remember being fobbed off. babywipes indeed

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/03/2018 13:07

We say it isn't a new variant, but we don't actually know - novichok is a family of nerve agents. I also don't think it has been used in anger before either.

MsHomeService - come up with mad theories like that and you will attract 'interesting' twitter followers.

Could Tillerson's sudden sacking have anything to do with the support he voiced for the UK in this matter? (on top of everything else he's butted heads with Trump about of course!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/03/2018 13:27

It's interesting timing Yoga, but I caught a snippet of a rumour (stress that it's a rumour) that Trump fired him on Friday. It may be that he feels that he can speak more freely now he has little to lose.

ok rumour comes from Washington Post who broke the news first.

It strikes me as odd that his daughter was able to go back and forth and that he was buying scratch cards. I assumed he would have been taken care of financially.

BishopBrennansArse · 13/03/2018 13:51

Is it likely that Tillerson could have been fired due to his comments on Russia, though? Does this mean the US could side with Putin?

I put this to DH and he said "so what does Putin have on Mr Trump?"

PerkingFaintly · 13/03/2018 14:18

There isn't one "the US" at the moment.

The institutions of US government are deeply divided, with the Department of Justice and committees in the Senate and (until this weekend) Congress investigating the President of the US, his administration and his campaign for possibly colluding with – or at least benefitting from – Russia's attacks on US democracy.

So expect to continue to see mixed messages.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/03/2018 14:21

It seems like Tillerson may have been fired without warning.
ffs.

So we don't need to worry?

PerkingFaintly · 13/03/2018 14:26

In fact, Trump sided with Putin against the US intelligence services.

So it seems likely he'll continue to side with Putin over UK intelligence services.

But many other US institutions are likely to continue to assist the UK, unless actively prevented.

Trump says he trusts Putin's denials of election meddling

“President Trump was presented with clear and indisputable evidence that Russia interfered in the election.” Clapper told Reuters. Clapper was the national intelligence director when his office in January released the conclusion reached by the CIA, Federal Bureau of Investigation and National Security Agency that Russia had meddled in the 2016 U.S. presidential election told Reuters.

“The fact that the President would take Putin at his word over that of the intelligence community is quite simply unconscionable,” Clapper said.

PerkingFaintly · 13/03/2018 14:35

We need to worry to some extent.

If Trump did fire Tillerson for pointing the finger at Russia, this is very serious indeed. See "actively prevented" above.

But there has been talk of Tillerson being replaced for some time, so at the moment who knows?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/03/2018 14:36

About which bit Bishop? I'm a bit worried that we are becoming isolated.

Me too, OYBBK.

If nothing else, this whole incident has manouevred Teresa May into pressing the red button that publicly highlights the state of alliances and links with other powers, internationally.

So far, and I accept we're at an early stage here, the map of relationships isn't exactly glowing.

Well indeed.

SoleBizzz · 13/03/2018 15:15

Will Russia explain by midnight tonight? Piers Morgan this morning suggested we boycott the World Cup.

gluteustothemaximus · 13/03/2018 15:30

At least they finally have the timeline right.

For ages they've been saying that they ate at Zizzi's, went to the Mill, and then walked through Market Walk to the bench....which is not possible unless you go a very very weird way around!

A week ago I kept saying it had to be the Mill then Zizzi's then walk via market walk through to the bench area.

Now they are finally saying that's the timeline.

So it begs the question, how could they NOT know the timeline if they had working CCTV?! (or just common sense based on where the places are in relation to where they were on the gym's cctv).

NeedsAsockamnesty · 13/03/2018 15:33

If he’s in the secret services he does a very good act of being a perfectly normal friendly nice copper who does a fair bit of hands on policing.

He’s quite well known locally.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/03/2018 15:35

That does make more sense, dh and I were musing on the idea of a meal followed by the pub, we would do it the other way round.

A lot of cctv has been lost due to budget cuts in some/many local authorities.

OYBBK yes I worry too that we're becoming isolated. Makes us vulnerable in situations like these.

My concern is all out war tbh

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/03/2018 15:42

:(

well, we just have to hope that things work out ok. There are some things we can influence and some we can't.

Yes, if Brexit looked bad complete and utter disaster before, it looks even more so now.

Unity is everything.

counterpoint · 13/03/2018 15:57

Very convenient 'excuse' for seizing assets belonging to billionaires that were likely to remove them from the U.K. as Brexit deadline draws near.

pestilentialboundary · 13/03/2018 16:17

More Russians and nine days in it is obvious nobody has our back.

War? We are more like a yorkie snapping at heels, we chose to leave the pack.

Yep, the almost synchronised onset of symptoms is rather remarkable.

BishopBrennansArse · 13/03/2018 16:26

Oh crap
