OK I took it upon myself in my arrogance. Nah, just enjoyed all the views whether we agreed or not, it has been very interesting.

So carry on folks. Link below to the original thread.

But hopefully events aren’t quite that fateful!

BroomstickOfLove · 04/12/2017 14:26

Statement due at 2.30, apparently.

SparklingSnowfall · 04/12/2017 14:30

I've been glued to Twitter for the last hour or so, unbelievable!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/12/2017 14:31

I see foster has already made a statement saying no regulatory divergence between NI & RUK...

BroomstickOfLove · 04/12/2017 14:32

And the 2.30 statement has been delayed because May and Juncker are still in their meeting.

BroomstickOfLove · 04/12/2017 14:33

The difference between the BBC and RTE coverage is shocking.

Hmm, that doesn't bode well...

The difference between the BBC and RTE coverage is shocking

I get most of my Brexit news from RTE and DW now

CraicMammy · 04/12/2017 14:50

No regulatory divergence.... so there could still be ID checks on the ROI/NI border then...

CraicMammy · 04/12/2017 15:01

...a double border, maybe the only solution (after my personal favourite - no Brexit) is to piss everyone off

Maryz · 04/12/2017 15:15

Does anyone else think May has leaked this to gauge the reaction and is now going to say "don't be silly, that was never going to happen"

Bloody hell - did May really just come up with that proposal without consulting the DUP?!

It doesn't sound good does it, meeting paused while May phones people

LineysRunner · 04/12/2017 15:26

Extraordinary stuff.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/12/2017 15:27

It's a tragic comedy.

CraicMammy · 04/12/2017 15:27

Really, it’s not too late, can we not just call the whole thing off?

Maryz · 04/12/2017 15:29

We can't Craic. We can't tell the UK what to do.

Of course that doesn't stop so many of them (including their government officials) trying to tell us what to do.

This is unbelievable. May should really read mumsnet, we've explored more possibilities than she has, and seem to know more Hmm

sinceyouask · 04/12/2017 15:32

What the DUP has always failed to understand about the British government and the Conservative Party in particular, is that they see the NI unionists as 'Paddies' too

My Dad is Scottish, from one of those lovely weearrapeepul families, so whilst I have no experience of NI I have plenty of listening to deluded sectarian mouth breathers gobbing off. They make such a fuss about a British identity and they don't realise that the people they're desperate to be in a union with only value them when it comes to votes and invective, and certainly don't see them as part of their club.

Maryz · 04/12/2017 15:36

This is the RTE article which seems to be being updated all the time.

I was interested in this bit: "Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has said that if Northern Ireland gets a special deal allowing it to stay within the single market and customs union then so should London. Mr Khan tweeted that "Londoners overwhelmingly voted to remain in the EU and a similar deal here could protect tens of thousands of jobs."

Maryz · 04/12/2017 15:38

And a quote elsewhere from Sammy Wilson (again):

"I think that this is emanating from the Irish Government, obviously, trying to push the UK government into a corner in the negotiations.

"It is not well thought through. I don't think, given its promises, the British government could concede on this."

Arse. Again, trying to blame Ireland for the UK's mess.

Abra1d · 04/12/2017 15:38

We could end up with isolated Brexit cities, towns and villages, where groceries such as oranges from Spain, Belgian chocolate or French cheese cost more, etc.

Maryz · 04/12/2017 15:43

If it wasn't so utterly tragic, the whole thing would be very funny. It's just so utterly incompetent on so many levels.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/12/2017 15:48

I think that Wales, Scotland, and London have now said they'd like the NI deal too please....

Abra1d · 04/12/2017 15:48

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry a lot of the time.

bearstrikesback · 04/12/2017 15:48

A total farce.

Arlene Foster sounded like she was on the verge of tears when she made her statement to the press.
