What's all this fuss about Kate Middleton's mum? All because she worked for a living! And had the temerity to say 'toilet'. FFS! They obviously have only contempt for real people.

Kate Middleton is up against the wall too though

she shagged one

Callisto · 18/04/2007 14:50

I doubt very much whether the Royal family proper gives a shite what KM's background is. Seems to me that snobby people are either noveau riche or middle class and the papers are blowing the whole thing out of proportion. Keep the Royal family, get rid of the tabloids say I.

monkeytrousers · 18/04/2007 17:49

The world would be a better place without either!

It is, I think, a bit much to be 'briefed' on how to address someone, so as not to offend them.

why would it be better without them? the whole world loves her maj.

booge · 18/04/2007 17:54

Says alot about the rampant snobbery in this country that how someone refers to the bog, shitter or whatever makes the news

Greensleeves · 18/04/2007 18:01

Does anyone really want all this sycophantic pantomime any more? She's just a standard-issue po-faced elderly woman in a poncy hat, ffs. I've never said Ma'am to anybody in my life and I bloody well wouldn't for her. Ditto curtseying, simpering, using archaic language and all the other cringeworthy obsequious claptrap. They're the most dysfunctional family in Britain, not to mention being a bunch of inbred parasitical dimwits. Bollocks. Says I.

booge · 18/04/2007 18:06

Hear hear! I have yet to hear a convincing arguement for maintaining them.

custy · 18/04/2007 18:07

what greensleeves said plus chop off their heads

Quasi · 18/04/2007 18:15

No, put them in a council estate in Scunthorpe and make 'em work for a living. Actually apologies to everyone in Scunthorpe - you don't deserve to have that pile of cr*p in your midst.

I am fed up of us paying out our money for them. Grrrr.

My mum was offered the chance to go to a royal garden party. She declined. Her colleagues now think she is a communist apparently...

I once got a detention at school for refusing to shake her Maj's hand.

She came to my town to open something and we all got a day off school to wave flags at her. I was at the front and she held her hand out to me but I wouldn't shake it as she was a stranger....

Got sent to back of the crowd and a detention for being rude to Royalty.

I was 6

niceglasses · 18/04/2007 18:24

Just scrap 'em. I'm sick of them. I haven't a clue why we are even supposed to be interested in them. They aren't even slightly interesting.

monkeytrousers · 18/04/2007 20:22

PMSL Greeny. Well put!

Seconded NG. Sorry Califrau, you'll just have to rely on Richard Burton and Catherine Xeta Jones!

Firstly, I wouldn't swap with them.

Secondly, they didn't ask to be born royal.

Thirdly, they are surrounded by idiot courtiers. This doesn't help them to live in the real world.

And fourthly, the Queen has done a great job of the role she was born into. Good on her, what a rotten destiny.

I honestly can't understand the vitriol that's poured on them. They are part of Britain's rich heritage. Would you bulldoze Stonehenge as well?

Rightly or wrongly, I always thought Kate Middleton would have trouble actually marrying into the royal family. Her family are middle class. They run a mail-order catalogue. It's only 26 years since the royals were having Diana examined to verify her virginity, we haven't come far enough for them to allow the daughter of a catalogue queen to sit on the throne of England.

fuzzywuzzy · 19/04/2007 13:17

They had diana examined to verify her virginity???, as in properly examined by a medic???

pearshape · 19/04/2007 13:21

i read the other day of Prince William spending £11,000 on a bar bill for himself and pals. (the receipt was there for all to see) That was my last annual wage They need a reality check. How are we supposed to feel about them when they do things like this. It shows a complete lack of respect for money and for the 'normal' people out there who have to slave away all year for money he blows in a couple of hours.

doggiesayswoof · 19/04/2007 13:25

Get rid. Greeny and custy have it right.

suejonez · 19/04/2007 13:25

I never understand the passion for the royal family either pro or anti. They're good for tourism and do some of the work that the head of state would have to do anyway (so no savings there for when President Blair is appointed). They're not that expensive, scrapping a couple of quangos would probably save us more.

I was trustee of a charity with a patron who was one of the queens cousins. She did a fab job for us when required for no money and I don;t think she gets anything from the civil list. She feels it is her "duty" - I wish more priveliged people felt it was their duty to do charity work

Otherwise they're not terribly relevant to me and I don;t spend much time thinking (or reading) about them.

doggiesayswoof · 19/04/2007 13:27

mogwai if they are part of our 'heritage' then it's a v dodgy, made-up heritage - their name is not even Windsor - they just started calling themselves that

OrmIrian · 19/04/2007 13:27

same here Suejonez - don't understand all the passion at all.
