Ok guys, we have been very lucky to discuss this, please lets not give anyone anything to complain about, Mhq have been more than accomodating.

Ceto, I think that question was re funding a week at a hospice, perhaps?

No, it was about who is funding the legal battle.

oakleaffy · 26/07/2017 15:42

Venus..I'm shocked but not surprised by that response. Some people cannot handle any views that clash with their own narrow ideas.

meddie · 26/07/2017 15:42

I have grave reservations about the care being ongoing in a hospice. not just because they are not set up for that and I think the professionals are putting themselves at risk. But the NHS just cant offer extended ventilation outside a hospital or fund it. This sets a precedent. The service offered to some parents regarding extubation at home or in hospice is not a normal part of ICU care and is usually done by staff in their own time as it is, or if the retrieval service can bring in an extra team (they cant use the rostered team, they are there to cover emergency transfers within their region) Its very much a goodwill service. This opens the door for others demanding the same thing.

farfallarocks · 26/07/2017 15:42

The judge really needs to get tough now, this is getting ridiculous, why was the doctor not there, why was there no C.V.? Poor Charlie, he is getting lost in all of this.

If he is in pain, how is a week in a hospice at all in his best interests. Awful stuff.

Ceto · 26/07/2017 15:43

CGF says delay caused by London traffic.

Fresh8008 · 26/07/2017 15:43

Who will end up paying for the new ventilator, the NHS? And what happens to if afterwards?

reallyanotherone · 26/07/2017 15:43

Fresh- good point about 999.

What an absolutley terrible position to put a paramedic in.

AcrossthePond55 · 26/07/2017 15:44

If part of this recess is so the Gard's team can meet 'to discuss things' with this doctor, does that mean that they don't actually know what he can or cannot do? Shouldn't they know all that before they propose him as an expert witness?

Wordsaremything · 26/07/2017 15:44

If I recall correctly, Charlie's specialist said that the onset of fits marked the terminal stages of the disease, and that death would usually occur in six to nine months. That was in January.

Am I alone in thinking he may die at any moment anyway, whilst this ghastly charade continues? And how awful that would be for the family.

Re Daily Mail - unless I have misunderstood, it's perfectly normal for a p r person to write statements on behalf of parents. Although at one point, I thought I detected another more mature 'voice' - the one which came just before the hearing they withdrew from which was very cleverly worded to cover most eventualities.

NellieBuff · 26/07/2017 15:45

Swannykazoo I think I can safely say everyone of us on this thread (regardless, despite, because of our different circumstances) only have Charlie's best interests at heart.

Ceto · 26/07/2017 15:46

Ellie, better not to let CA and CGF know where they can contact a dissenter? Maybe withdraw your post?

TheFairyCaravan · 26/07/2017 15:46

This is ridiculous.

I think the judge needs to say, enough is enough. This is what is going to happen, it will happen at x location at y time.

All this fannying around is not in Charlie's best interests imo.

Sostenueto · 26/07/2017 15:46

Hi all! Have been lurking keeping my beady eye on you lot! Laugh of the day....waiting for judge rinder to appear!...... Grin

taratill · 26/07/2017 15:46

Hi regarding the funding question, I meant who will fund the end of life care if it is carried out in accordance with their wishes for a week at their home?

Are they suggesting the costs of this is met by the public purse?

It is presumably expensive to keep CG alive at GOSH but costs would be considerably higher at either a hospice or at their home.

I do wonder about the £1.3 million.

I say this with absolute pity at their position. It is awful, but there are huge implications of what they are now asking for both in terms of the rights of Charlie (which again are not at the forefront) and the massive costs associate with their wishes for his end of life arrangements.

MrsSthe3rd · 26/07/2017 15:46

TheDevilMadeMeDoIt

MrsS, why do you think the medical staff 'won't come off too well'?

I meant to add: in the parents opinion. I just think they'll try to take everyone at GOSH down. I only believe that from what they've said on SM so openly and them paving way for trying to sue GOSH.

Yes hope everyone in court bears in mind that this is about what's best for Charlie......

Sirzy · 26/07/2017 15:47

If the "Doctor" can't even manage to make it to court on time, and seemingly he can't produce a CV quickly can we really trust him to care for a child on his own?

MirandaWest · 26/07/2017 15:48

I've been out this afternoon and was expecting to see a resolution. I think I was being rash in thinking that would be the case.

All of this is horrible

CGF:

Doc mtg w GOSH, VBC, etc to determine whether his qualifications would meet Charlie's home care needs.

Judge expected to have gotten call at 3:00 w update.

MontyPythonsFlyingFuck · 26/07/2017 15:49

CGF says delay caused by London traffic.

If the retired doctor doesn't know that Basingstoke to the High Court is best as a 45 minute train journey followed by a 15 minute walk, why on earth would anyone trust his judgment on anything else?

Ceto · 26/07/2017 15:49

CGF: Also in ct during recess: a gentleman began shouting, exclaiming he had a right to ask the judge ?s. Was removed.

cjt110 · 26/07/2017 15:49

@Maryz... IIRC he basically said yesterday he would allow a further day for an agreement to be reached and if not he would rule. Happy to be corrected otherwise.
