Ok guys, we have been very lucky to discuss this, please lets not give anyone anything to complain about, Mhq have been more than accomodating.

This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Lastly, here are some hopefully useful reference points of facts surrounding the case.

Thank you, unsure if my post is OK, but what I am concerned about is, do you think this case may lead to many other such cases, whereas as the Judge mentioned, mediation is better of at all possible?

sodablackcurrant · 25/07/2017 20:44

OK.

But I'm guessing this one will be closed tomorrow after 2pm aswell. If not before!

Glad I have Joshua Rozenbergs twitter ready. He will not be reported.

marking place with a heavy heart that Charlie is still being forced to stay alive.

CaveMum · 25/07/2017 20:47

Marking place and also hoping tomorrow brings resolution.

sodablackcurrant · 25/07/2017 20:48

I wish MNHQ would just delete the posts that make them feel the thread should be closed, instead of closing the thread for those of us who have posted compassionately and with feeling.

Anyone agree.

LaSourciere · 25/07/2017 20:48

Ok let's give some benefit of the doubt. When do we hear tomorrow?

LaSourciere · 25/07/2017 20:48

I agree soda

annandale · 25/07/2017 20:49

I wonder if hospital trusts will call for mediation much earlier as and when disagreement arises? I think the assumption often is that parents will come round gradually as they come to terms with awful diagnoses and impossible treatment decisions, but maybe treating teams will be much more upfront about options and lack of them from the start.

Starlight2345 · 25/07/2017 20:50

I am so disappointed to hear they were back in court today.
I felt a sense of relief for poor Charlie when I heard the parents had dropped the case.

I have read they have been offered counselling but refused. They need help like Charlie.. unfortunately all these delays are helping no one.

muckypup73 · 25/07/2017 20:51

Starlight2345,that was exactly my thinking, thought that was the end of it, but other posters knew better and they truly did lol

Sirzy · 25/07/2017 20:51

I just hope that tomorrow a very clear date for the ventilator to be switched off is set. As much for the parents sake as anything else to stop all this too-ing and fro-ing.

muckypup73 · 25/07/2017 20:52

sodablackcurrant, I think a lot will agree, but it is Mumsnet site and they dont want suuing, and dont want the parnts to see what we have been saying about them either, even if it is justified but I know where they are coming from.

OP posts:
Gobbolinothewitchscat · 25/07/2017 20:52

Not very sure what is going on re: deletion and starting a new thread

emanuellemumsnet - donyou want this one to stand or me to start a new one?

If this one is OK to stand, here is the link to the soon to be deleted thread with the deletion message per your request thread

muckypup73 · 25/07/2017 20:53

Sirzy, somehow I do not think tomorow will be the end of it, and poor Charlie.

OP posts:
Butterymuffin · 25/07/2017 20:53

I do agree soda, but it's MNHQ's call as we're in their space, and they've made it now. So let's try and make the best of the new thread and embrace the compromise.

sodablackcurrant · 25/07/2017 20:56

Of course, I accept that we are users of the site. I didn't intend to be nasty or anything.

I just had to say what I said. Seems those who report have more influence than those who post compassionately.

But I will carry on.....

thanks all. My above post was meant with good intentions.

muckypup73 · 25/07/2017 20:56

Butterymuffin, I agree, at the end of the day, when certain people objected they could have deleted the lot and stopped us making new threads, I know a lot of us are angry and rightly so, but there are rules and we have to follow them.

OP posts:
FrogsSitonLogs · 25/07/2017 20:57

They really do need to stop fighting now and just spend some time with him.

Sostenueto · 25/07/2017 20:59

Well I go away for a couple of hours and all hell has broke looseGrin
Thanks muckyFlowers

muckypup73 · 25/07/2017 21:00

FrogsSitonLogs, I do think its the time to spend the most valuable time with Charlie,Charlie will not go on indefitnately.

OP posts:
muckypup73 · 25/07/2017 21:01

Sostenueto, I just think people were being honest about how they actually feel and you cant blame them, but Mmumsnet have rules and we should follow them no matter how angry we are.

OP posts:
Ta1kinPeece · 25/07/2017 21:01

Dear MNHQ
Message from MNHQ: Hi everyone - following a tremendous amount of reports about this thread, we've had a long chat at MNHQ and agree that it might be time to delete it.
We know that feelings about Charlie and his family are running very high, and we do understand, but we really can't have this sort of parent blaming, finger pointing and speculation on our site.
We completely get that people will want to keep talking about this, so, bearing in mind that this is a real-life family going through real-life hell right now, the discussion is continuing here: ^www.mumsnet.com/Talk/in_the_news/2989025-Charlie-Gard-17-re-started?^

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

alreadytaken · 25/07/2017 21:02

to take the thread in a slightly different direction - do any of mn's legal experts think GOSH would have a chance of suing the "professor" for the extra legal costs arising from his behaviour? And could Charlie's guardian sue him on behalf of Charlie - who may have suffered months of pain because his parents were given false hope?
