If anyone wants to post, perhaps we could consider what implications today's case might have for others in future ... ?

This is an awful, awful situation for C&C. But, what I can't understand is why they are spending so much time in court fighting everything, instead of spending that precious time with Charlie? They want to take him 'home', but GOSH has been his home for so long, surely it would be better for him to pass peacefully, in familiar surroundings?

I can't begin to understand how they are feeling right now, but I think they're channeling their energies in the wrong place Sad

Co1onelblimp · 25/07/2017 16:41

If he goes to a hospice, how long before they turn off the ventilator? Will it be days, hours?
Surely it should be asap now that we know for definite the Charlie is experiencing pain.

Yamayo · 25/07/2017 16:41

According to Rosenberg the hearing is set to resume shortly.

LapinR0se · 25/07/2017 16:42

Gard: hearing expected to resume shortly.

The judge really needs to rule. I understand he likes the thought of mediation, but in some instances, as this, things have gone way too far for it.

C&C are never going to accept anything other than, "he needs to be home where we want to do x,y,z with him first"

AcrossthePond55 · 25/07/2017 16:42

If I were Francis J, I think I'd be saying that we will be here until midnight if that's what it takes.

I think at this point nothing GOSH will propose will be satisfactory to the parents and nothing the parents propose will be satisfactory to GOSH. I'm sure Francis J sees this, he's not a fool. So the question now is, how long before he feels that the wrangling/arguing has gone on 'long enough' for all and sundry to accept that he must make a ruling.

And if he does, is that ruling now appealable?

This could go on forever as long as it keeps going back to court.

justatoe1 · 25/07/2017 16:42

I've just read about Jahi McMath: I can quite see why going home may not be in Charlie's best interests.

Gard: earlier, the judge asked if Connie Yates was happy for this hearing to remain open to the public. She said yes.

We will need a new thread soon.

purpleprincess24 · 25/07/2017 16:45

Court resuming

yolofish · 25/07/2017 16:46

although I would never wish anyone dead, I think that's the best thing for Charlie. and I hope Francis J will make the order, with no caveats, no 'just another few days' etc. GOSH have been remarkable throughout all this, the management and staff must have the patience of saints.

oakleaffy · 25/07/2017 16:46

Please forgive me for suggesting this..but I have a gut feeling parents might want to try some nucleoside ''powder'' treatment, privately? to see if it makes a difference?

sodablackcurrant · 25/07/2017 16:47

I am so non techie, could someone post a link to Joshua Rozenberg twitter please.

officeshoes · 25/07/2017 16:47

Maryz I thought that yesterday that this thread would dwindle half way along, so so wrong

SomeDyke · 25/07/2017 16:48

As regards the transport issue, I assume that a hospice, by nature of what a hospice does, would have the space and access facilities to allow patients to be moved easily from vehicles etc. Whereas C&C home, as someone already said, they might have issues with getting equipment inside. I know others have said about the small size of portable ventilators, but I assume a portable ventilator would be the 6-7 hours that the GOSH plan mentioned. But then, let us admit it, there are other issues in this case given the long-running court case, POTUS, the Pope, media interest. None of the problems are insurmountable, and these are what the NHS staff do on a regular basis. But that depends critically on the parents being in agreement -- which they aren't here. But then this is what the judge is there for, to try and steer through this morass when agreement cannot be reached, when mediation is rejected, to try and make sure Charlies best interests are protected. This is our legal system folks, and our NHS, and I do think we should be very proud of both, for looking after Charlie as well as they have done.

Who would have though that a full thread later this would still be dragging on

Unfortunately, I did; given all that's happened already I might be disappointed but certainly not surprised
