If anyone wants to post, perhaps we could consider what implications today's case might have for others in future ... ?

sodablackcurrant so do I, I think a few of us predicted that this wouldn't be the end if it some time ago.

Enough about their wants now, you shouldn't be allowed to put the parents above the welfare of a child in pain.

friendlysnakehere · 25/07/2017 16:29

GOSH has been truly amazing in its continued kindness to the family.

So a hospice was found but they want to be at home?

smilingmind · 25/07/2017 16:29

Sky news update. Apparently the Italian expert agrees with GOSH.

It looks increasingly likely that Court will have to adjourn again doesn't it?

They don't generally sit much beyond 5pm do they?

blueskyinmarch · 25/07/2017 16:30

They are having a very long discussion. Lets hope it leads to a resolution that works for everyone, but in particular for Charlie. However i fear they may be going round and round in circles with no common ground to be found at all.

jinglejanglejobs · 25/07/2017 16:30

This isn't going to end unless Francis J goes and turns the vent off himself, honestly. The parents are going to push and push and push. It's like they're hoping for more evidence the same way it happened when they last delayed his death.

AcrossthePond55 · 25/07/2017 16:30

To the best of my knowledge, Jahi McMath is in a religious-based long-term-care (LTR) facility that specializes in intubated patients. TBH, I don't know if Medicaid or other insurance is paying for her care or if the facility is providing it free on a religious basis.

My MiL was in such a facility for the last couple of months of her life and it was horrible to see her lying there, machines breathing for her, until her poor spirit finally gave up.

Jahi is brain dead, which to me means that her soul has already left her body. She's nothing but a shell being kept alive by machines. My MiL, like Charlie, was not brain dead, but in a body that was deteriorating slowly and painfully. The difference is that MiL was still conscious and did not want to give up her fight. Once she'd had enough of fighting, she gave up and died shortly thereafter. But she had a voice and directed her end of life.

Charlie has no voice. And the people who should be wanting his suffering to end as quickly and peacefully as possible seem to be unable to see beyond their own 'needs'. They are not thinking clearly, at this point I think they are both irrational and probably delusional about this. This is why I think this needs to be taken out of the public arena and all court proceedings done privately. Things need to be said out loud to them, blunt and cruel things, that don't need to be in the public record.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 25/07/2017 16:32

"The President of the Vatican's Bambino Gesu hospital - which had offered to help Charlie if it was possible - told a news conference on Tuesday afternoon that she completely backed the decisions of GOSH."

"Mariella Enoc said, after a request from Charlie's mother, one of the hospital's professors had examined Charlie and had agreed with the London hospital that nothing could be done."

Incitatis · 25/07/2017 16:32

I really think he needs to be made a ward of court now and that the palliative care staff should be the only ones with him when ventilation is withdrawn. I don't honestly know what's going on with the parents, but this is just awful, particularly if he's in pain.

Enough is enough.

MrsSthe3rd · 25/07/2017 16:32

Enough about their wants now, you shouldn't be allowed to put the parents above the welfare of a child in pain.

This. Without a doubt.

I may come across as heartless but I know for sure that there's no way that I could live with myself, knowing I'd prolonged my DCs suffering. I'd have to free my baby from a world where they weren't destined to be.

friendlysnakehere · 25/07/2017 16:33

Afaik the judge wanted the hearing in private but the parents didn't, what can you do in that situation?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/07/2017 16:33

It seems GOSH suggested a hospice care plan last night, but the parents appear not to want to discuss it with GOSH or with a mediator

Dear God ... so GOSH do all the work to give them what they want and get Charlie out of there, and still they won't agree Hmm

So how come Chris Gard stood outside the court and said "American and Italian experts are still willing to treat him"??

cjt110 · 25/07/2017 16:34

*It looks increasingly likely that Court will have to adjourn again doesn't it?

They don't generally sit much beyond 5pm do they?*

They can sit til late if needed.

sodablackcurrant · 25/07/2017 16:34

It is all so undignified. And unnecessary.

I am appalled that the parents have (according to a pp via Rozenberg) refused to discuss the end of life care plan devised by gosh either with them or a mediator.

This is stuck now unless the current discussions yield something.

That judge may have to bring his gavel down, and he doesn't deserve to have to make this decision. He has said often enough that court judgements should not be required, only proper mediation and an agreed outcome.

So they have castigated gosh, refused to communicate, and have put the judge in a difficult position.

It is very difficult for me to feel much empathy for the parents at the moment, even though it is a dreadful time for them.

LapinR0se

I don't know. What is truth?

Elendon · 25/07/2017 16:36

It's clear the parents do not want their child to die in GOSH.

Actually, I think they should be given all the help they need in this case.

They probably are currently going through a grieving process no one on this thread wants to do though some have. It surely can be done. And if that is what the parents want for them as a family, then who are we to criticise.

Across the pond ..Agree with you CCCCharlie has no voice, yet the medics elicited a pain response.poor lad needs release now, he won't mind if he is as GOSH, if he is 'aware' as his parents suggest, he will know the touch of the nurses, and the vibe of the place. It is 'home' to him.

Co1onelblimp · 25/07/2017 16:37

The judge has been far too lenient with them. They know they can push and push and delay the inevitable..
He needs to get tough!

If C&C won't consider the hospice option & will not agree to Charlie having treatment withdrawn within a short time of arriving home then I do think, unfortunately, the Judge will need to rule.

I admire him for wanting to try everything possible to reach agreement first however.

They also said that he could have been a normal little boy, had he had the treatment within that window of opportunity - which isn't that case, so I'm guessing they're just denying everything and are completely blinkered to reality.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/07/2017 16:38

Afaik the judge wanted the hearing in private but the parents didn't, what can you do in that situation?

I believe the judge has the authority to order that the case be heard in private if he wishes ... but as so often, nobody seems prepared to say "no"
