This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

I think I'm glad GOSH have posted that. I am shocked at the family spokeman's statement.

Agreed maryz think mumsnet being cautious because I believe there's going yo be real trouble over this involving police so best we don't comment about CA or criticize parents. We need to keep thread open for discussing the ethical points and keeping proper and correct information coming along with wonderful balanced posts from the great people on this thread.

It's a terrible game the Gards are playing here - a cynical ploy? By a children's hospital? To what end? I'm flabbergasted.

The CA FB posts likening GOSH to Hitler are still there. I reported them to FB but have now done screen shots and will send them to the Met.

The idea is for all of us to learn from each other and discuss issues arising from posts and have a laugh, even a few bum fights now and again lol! But no flinging of fibrogel! Ugh! (Smile)

Laura Gard's video only shows that there aren't 24 hour protests. It doesn't show anything else.

That's it. If you see something wrong report it to the met etc. If we can't quote or talk too much about it at least we can do something about it.

I thought there was a gagging order or was that just for the last weekend of clinical meeting?

I fear the judge is not going to be happy about this.

I think the judge is going to be absolutely furious! Not sure he can do anything about it though.

I'd have thought C&C's legal team would have strongly advised them before now to stay off public social media, and distance themselves from the protests, given the judge's warning in court last week.

I have to say that, even before the latest GOSH statement, I think there were some rather... intemperate comments about CG's parents on the last thread from a small number of posters. This really is not what the threads are meant to be about and is a sure fire way to get them closed down.

Anyway, family spokesman is really not helping with his 'cynical ploy' comment. Does anyone know if it was the UKIP bloke or another 'spokesperson'?

Not watched the video, staying well clear of CA atm. Did see the comments on Gosh fb and I'm just gonna back away from that slowly, though I did like a few of the more considered posts!! 😬

Curious... what do you all think can be learnt from this entire process - what changes need to be made in all areas to prevent not just initial breakdowns but the SMOG frenzy that followed (and slightly dubious media reporting)?

I don't doubt for a second that the parents have received all kinds of weird and horrible post and messages. There are complete weirdos (putting it politely) out there who thrive on ill kids and stuff.

And it could be that the threats and messages GOSH are talking about are similar types. Not the SM CA stuff.

But my goodness, saying that you don't condone the threats but actually we've been threatened too so GOSH should say that's wrong is just not helping anyone.

And aside from that please just go be with your little boy and family. I can't get my head round the sadness they must all be feeling. But they don't seem to be able to move away from SM
