I don't know if it was a coincidence or as a result of the grenfell tower fire putting the housing crisis in the spotlight but I was glad to see the property guy Phil Spencer's new program focus on the housing dilemma facing so many people trying to rent. Makes a change to the usual property TV programs showing people making huge profits laying the property game. The housing situation in our country is a mess.

mrsglowglow · 12/07/2017 23:41

The trauma of that poor family Helena. So devastating :(

HelenaDove · 12/07/2017 23:52

Oh i missed that mrs glow Will have to catch up.

Unfortunately the nastiness towards tenants in general still prevails.

Some of the comments ive seen online both towards the Grenfell residents and other SH tenants are disgusting

And i couldnt help noticing that when James O Brien brought up the Grenfell blog tonight the Conservative MP steered him away from it.

In fact the attitudes towards tenants seem to be getting worse not better.

.@Geryonsback @Becca_March @joedafoneUK There were gas pipes lining the tower corridors like factory water pipes - in huge quantities!

.@Geryonsback @Becca_March @joedafoneUK The cladding was actually flammable - & the poor things only had one wrecked escape route!

They were supposed to stay in their flats. They are designed to contain fires. No-one has put this cladding on, knowing it burns.

Insulation & fire doors had been removed. @LondonFire isn't to blame as they expected all this to be there.

Just some of the shit Joe Delaney is getting on Twitter. From someone on twitter seems to be into the property market. I suspect thats what behind some of the hate. There are some out there worried and scared that this horrific event may mean changes to housing policy and thus affect the housing market!

Terrible terrible comments regarding the tenants and the fire. Awful people digging around and wanting to slur the residents that are speaking up the truth of what's going on. They should be so ashamed. An 'accident'. Do some people really think this can be classed as an accident? No way.

Lucysky2017 · 13/07/2017 12:41

It may well be corporate manslaughter. I doubt anyone deliberately wanted to kill people however as that is bad for business. It may also be an accident too - sometimes no one is responsible for things unfortunately in life.

mrsglowglow · 13/07/2017 13:01

Do you seriously believe that what happened here may be an accident Lucy? A high rise Tower where hundreds of people called home was refurbished in 2016 and clad in highly flammable cheap material (that the residents never wanted). No accident about this.

Saucery · 13/07/2017 16:03

Nah, fire is an 'accident'. Having a residential building that goes up that fast is not.

BertieBotts · 13/07/2017 18:41

I doubt that anybody deliberately intended 80 people to die, but there was clearly negligence on a massive scale involved. Therefore, not accident.

If you kill somebody when driving because you weren't paying attention to the road nobody says "Oh well it was just an accident, never mind". You'd have serious consequences and probably go to prison.

When people have responsibility for people's safety it needs to be taken very seriously, not treated as a check box to sign off and make somebody else's problem. The negligent driver can't blame their passengers for distracting them or the person for being in the way or the car manufacturer for not having safeguards and neither can they claim it was an accident when they were found to have not been taking the responsibility of driving seriously.

Just because this is a few steps removed does nor make it different.

Residents were told to remove their pets, but no compensation was offered to cover the
costs involved.
 No consideration was given to residents who worked night shifts.
 Workers used electricity paid for by of residents, without offering compensation.
 Doors were left open and residents were able to wander in unchallenged by workers
who did not know them.
 Quality alterations that residents had already made to their homes were ripped out to
make way for inferior alternatives.
 Supposedly completed electrical rewiring was found to be substandard and occasionally
dangerous.
 Supposedly completed pipe works and its housing were found to be substandard.
 In some homes, odd sized radiators and kitchen unit doors had been fitted.
 Flooding in one home had been caused by an unsupervised apprentice.
 Households were left overnight without running water or a toilet.
 At least one resident was left without electricity for a whole weekend.
 Some workers were found to be abusive, bullying and inconsiderate, especially towards
elderly or otherwise vulnerable residents.
