I have no proof it would be better, of course. But I can't see how it could be much worse.
The society we have now gives no incentive to work hard. The younger generation are fucked, in general. It doesn't matter how hard they work.

QuiQuaiQuod · 25/06/2017 21:38

So now we have Brexit which will cost us all a fortune and not achieve what the Leavers actually wanted. In the meantime, JC has rebranded himself as a Jesus/Father Christmas character who can give us all everything we've ever wanted, despite Brexit, the deficit and all that tedious money stuff. He is delivering a positive message and that's all that matters.

This ^^

  • Fully agree - Corbyn is absolutely revolting. Someone upthread nailed it when they said he was like Svengali. I don't get it. It's like the emperor's new clothes. His lies and hypocrisy are beyond belief, his well-documented past actions are absolutely disgraceful, but apparently it's a smear to mention them. I always thought we were moral and truthful on the left but obviously I was wrong.

As for Corbyn's EU campaign - one of the times I saw him he didn't even mention the EU despite very heavy prompting from the MP with him. And yes, the childish fucker was too special to share a platform with Cameron but standing with with anti-Semitic*

and this ^^ that was me who said about him being a Svengali, and agree too, its the emporors new clothes.

cant comprehend how people are sucked in to his preaching. I think hes the biggest hypocriteof all the parties.

totally insincere (they all are) but smiles and fawns with it so people bow down to him.

If it had been raining at Glasto, hed have been walking on water! FFS.

Mistigri · 26/06/2017 06:03

One underlying problem with socialism is that confiscating wealth and redistributing it takes away the incentive to work hard, to innovate, to invest, to take risks, and to be competitive. In other words, eventually you run out of other people's money.

I agree with this, up to a point, but you will have to point out to me where, in the Corbyn Labour manifesto, it is proposed to "confiscate wealth and redistribute it" on a significantly larger scale than in the Tory manifesto.

Indeed one of the more justified criticisms of the Labour manifesto was that it was not progressive or redistributive enough (the Lib Dems scored better on this by some criteria).

Artofnoise1 · 26/06/2017 06:27

Totally brilliant speech. Thousands of people thought so as well.

Fantastic to see so many young people engaging with politics.

A total bonus to see the Daily Mail readers so rattledGrin

choochooo · 26/06/2017 06:36

So confused by anyone who thinks Glasto is a 'music festival' and therefore any political speeches are unwelcome or inappropriate.

Do you have any understanding about Glastonbury? It's not just music and it's ALWAYS had a political emphasis. CND, environmental campaigning, the lot.

I was there the year of the Make Poverty History campaign. It was a huge part of the festival that year.

Not watched his speech yet but I heard it was great. Good on him

olliegarchy99 · 26/06/2017 06:42

not read the full thread - as I knew it would be a glorification of the 'old bloke' JC
QuiQuaiQuod
so agree with everything you have said Smile
I fear for this country and the mind-set of young people who cannot see through the empty promises.
IMO - Glastonbury should be about the music and the wider world issues - climate change, poverty and cruel dictatorships in other countries, protecting our democracy
NOT a labour politician standing up and reading from his manifesto and endlessly intoning 'for the many not the few' Angry

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 07:08

as I knew it would be a glorification of the 'old bloke' JC

Nice subtle bit of ageism there. Hmm
One word. Churchill.

Clalpolly · 26/06/2017 07:11

I offer you all world peace and freedom from hunger. No one else wants this. Only me. No one else can see the suffering in the world. Only me. And you get a free trampoline. [and the crowd goes WILD]

birdsdestiny · 26/06/2017 07:21

Yes we all read the daily mail. None of us have been involved in the Labour party years.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 07:26

Who mentioned the daily mail? Confused

Clalpolly · 26/06/2017 07:27

I don't read the fucking Daily Mail.

birdsdestiny · 26/06/2017 07:29

4 posts up. It's the cry of the left at the moment. If you don't agree with Corbyn you read the mail, and are not as intellectually superior as them.

surferjet · 26/06/2017 07:32

Glastonbury is not a 'young' festival. I'd say the average age is 30 if not older. In fact, sometimes, when the camera zoomed in on the crowd, you'd think it was an advert for a saga weekend.
My ds ( 17 ) just rolls his eyes at Glastonbury.

HattiesBackpack · 26/06/2017 07:45

Seems that Corbyn just enjoys preaching to the converted.

Ankleswingers · 26/06/2017 07:47

Wolf in sheeps clothing. As is that McDonnall.

To think people are falling for it all.

Scary stuff.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 08:24

Grin Chalpolly you have summed it up in a nutshell

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 08:48

Mistigri - JC and JM whole belief system is built on redistribution of wealth. They are socialists through and through and redistribution of wealth is a socialist policy. If they get into No 10 and 11 their policy will be based on redistribution of wealth.

There are examples of it throughout their manifesto for example page 86 under communities the Land Value Tax. I don't want to derail the thread onto the LVT because Corbyn supporters, despite overwhelming evidence, will just deny it is ever going to happen.

MoominFlaps · 26/06/2017 08:55

yeah, let's all be terrified of socialism because capitalism is so awesome isn't it?

I am not a full on socialist but I HATE the inequalities in society and the rich/poor divide. Do other labour supporters not?

I also do not understand criticism of JC because he is too "left wing". The Labour Party is supposed to be a left wing party. If you don't like it by all means support the lib dems - that's your democratic right.

I certainly don't think everyone who doesn't agree with JC is a daily mail reading moron, but OTOH a lot of you on this thread seem very happy to dismiss people like me as young, gullible hippies. So.

Madbengalmum · 26/06/2017 08:58

Ankle, totally agree, McDonall is worse IMHO. Talking about murder by the tories at Glastonbury, when well over half of the councils responsible for inadequate fire protection on their bulidings are labour run.
You can also bet that if the corbyn supporters took a look further than the end of their streets, they would see the effects of Marxist rule in other countries like Venezuela, and see how well that is working!

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 08:59

Artofnoise1 - "totally brilliant speech" Hmm

JC's speech at Glastonbury is not going to go down in the history books as "brilliant". He just preaches to the converted.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 26/06/2017 09:11

Even Vince Cable said on Andrew McNeill - "If Labour get into power we will have a Venezuela style government"

IMHO the GE campaign did not scrutinise the Labour manifesto. Labour did a brilliant job of putting the Tories on the backfoot every day and stealing the headlines with some more "giveaways". This was not hard as the Tory manifesto was beyond awful and TM's campaigning skills were non-existent.

Scary that people are getting carried away with all the hype.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 09:18

Wow.

Who knew redistribution of wealth is a terrifying prospect? Confused

Mistigri · 26/06/2017 09:19

Mistigri - If they get into No 10 and 11 their policy will be based on redistribution of wealth.

Your assertions are based on personal beliefs not evidence. If they were to get into government, their scope for manoeuvre will be limited by the manifesto on which they were elected, and by the need for support from the PLP (and any coalition partners, unless they have an outright majority - which still looks like a stretch even if an election were held today).

There are examples of it throughout their manifesto for example page 86 under communities the Land Value Tax.

There are good arguments for increasing taxation of assets. I don't have a view on Labour's LVT (because I am not familiar with the specifics) but I don't find it shocking in principle. Other European countries tax land values for eg France applies a taxe foncière based on theoretical rental value, and Germany has a property tax too (Grundsteuer). Neither of these countries is "socialist"; indeed Germany has had a centre right government for many years.

I'm no Corbynite but you won't win any arguments with the true believers if you respond with uninformed claptrap.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 26/06/2017 09:22

Mistigri If you're interested, here's the lowdown on LVT.

Personally I like to go on facts not hyperbole.

MerryMarigold · 26/06/2017 09:34

Labour's LVT will have you sell your garden

I like to go on facts not hyperbole 😂
