And who would be driving a shut-down on such news? If it's the government (and why?), then surely the newspapers wouldn't go along with that?

lobsterface · 17/06/2017 17:40

If true there would be photos. Plus there's a morgue in the tower - where would these be seen?

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/06/2017 17:41

That sounds distinctly like twitter bs to me - if they could be seen they'd put up screens or something. No need to stop the trains.

Saucery · 17/06/2017 17:41

THey will not be leaving body bags out. They may well have stopped the trains as they are trying to limit the weirdos taking photos of them removing the bags from the building, but I don't think that is sinister, really.

thatdearoctopus · 17/06/2017 17:43

And also, body bags out in the open? In this heat?????

HelenaDove · 17/06/2017 17:43

BBC was reporting from the council offices There is no fucker there apart from security.

Why arent they there?

BeyondStrongAndStable · 17/06/2017 17:45

Someone saw them taking "loads" of body bags in to the building from a train, afaik nobody has seen them used and left out in the heat

MonkeylovesRobot · 17/06/2017 17:45

"I don't think there's anything sinister about stopping the trains"

Anyone know if electricity is running in that area?

SylviaPoe · 17/06/2017 17:45

'Theresa May’s statement comes after she met earlier today with 15 victims of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, volunteers and community leaders.

I have heard the concerns and I have ordered immediate action across the board to help victims’ relatives and the survivors. People lost everything in the fire and were left in only the clothes they were wearing. I can confirm that a £5m emergency fund that I announced yesterday is now being distributed on the ground so people can buy clothes, food and other essentials. If more funding is required, it will be provided,” the prime minister said.

May has set a deadline of three weeks for all those affected to be found a home nearby and she has requested daily progress reports. “I have ordered that more staff be deployed across the area, wearing high visibility clothing, so they can easily be found, dispense advice and ensure the right support is provided. Phone lines will have more staff,” she added.'

MonkeylovesRobot · 17/06/2017 17:46

I don' tthink You can't see the building entrance from the Train (from memory)

MonkeylovesRobot · 17/06/2017 17:46

Ahhh, I don't think you can see the building entrance from the train (from memory)

mpsw · 17/06/2017 17:48

"There are lots of rumours going aroundcon twitter etc that there is a d notice in place, the media have denied it, but then they are hardly likely to admit to either are they?"

There cannot be a D-notice in place, as this just doesn'tt fall into the scope of what they are used for (defence and intelligence issues). D-notice depends very much on the co-operation of the press in the national interest. So on this topic it would fail on pragmatic grounds too.

I think rumours about D-notices are started by those with an agenda to inflame. They are trading on the general public not really knowing how the system works, and using it to feed distrust.

(BTW The mechanism to control reporting of issues other than defence/intelligence is the super-injunction)

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 17/06/2017 17:52

I also get annoyed by the whole deprived /in benefits claims .

I know the area it's a bit salty for sure but it's no ghetto
Most of the people worked - as they do on
My local authority estate

It's the social cleansing that makes
Me weep - the 'how dare you have an opinion you are so lucky to be here '

Sending that fucking letter and the tone of it the day after - not one single person thought 'hang on'

My boss used the Swiss cheese analogy and I do agree with that .

But the desire to have swathes of London inhabited by only rich people is not me and it's not my London. We love London because it's so diverse / and we live London because it's so mixed

Clearly those cunts at the council don't think like me though

BeyondStrongAndStable · 17/06/2017 17:52

Stopping a riot would come under defence? Not that I think there is a D notice in place anyway!

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 17/06/2017 17:54

I think twitter can be a great of way of having a national and international conversation and also of disseminating information but sometimes this means rumours quickly become 'fact' as the truth get's distorted as everyone plays Chinese Whispers.

CaveMum · 17/06/2017 17:54

Thanks for the new thread. Once again Flowers for everyone affected.

Runny · 17/06/2017 17:56

No the woman on the news definitely said that loads of body bags could be seen lined up.

I couldn't believe the trains were still running the day after the fire, firstly because of the obvious safety concerns and secondly because you will always get sickos who want to have a gawp.

Ive got a very left wing, bordering on Communits in all honesty, Facebook friends who's been sharing a lot of this stuff over the last two days or so. The latest is a claim that there are 200 bodies in the Morgue at one of the hospitals and the media aren't reporting on it.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 17/06/2017 18:03

They did stop the trains the day after though, didn't they? And the buses too - there were a few posters on the first thread who said they were affected by transport problems cause so much was shut. The main road too.

Catminion · 17/06/2017 18:03

I live nearby.

You cannot see into the building to the extent of seeing bodies or bodybags.

It would be easy to conceal bodies or unused body bags nearby from the tube passengers and the other flats nearby by using a vehicle or tarps.

I assume if something fell from the building onto the track it could potentially derail a train - that is the only reason as far as I can see.

Albadross · 17/06/2017 18:05

I've been consumed by this for the past few days as I assume many others on this thread will have been too. I decided to write my 'real' letter to the victims as honestly as possible because it just didn't come across on the BBC (for reasons we've talked about). It's here if anyone's interested:

www.thewhitepariah.com/2017/06/grenfell-my-real-letter-to-victims.html

Sorry if it seems self-indulgent, but I needed to express it somewhere.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/06/2017 18:07

With every big story, there are folk on social media who make shit up for their own reasons, and then there are folk who believe everything they read in social media and circulate it like it's gospel.

There is no way they could sustain hiding 140+ deaths of people in central london in the age of social media. As more names come out it would become very obvious that the number seeking people was far more.

Most of the news have been reporting around 70 since yesterday, it's not beyond the realms that since they got hold of that number the police have managed to track down a few more. I'm not saying it won't go up or that the info is exact because it clearly isn't, but I don't believe they're sitting on 150+ bodies.

Catminion · 17/06/2017 18:08

Part of Ladbroke Grove was closed because the roads into the estate needed to be kept clear for fire engines and the like. There are not many routes into the estate and some are still closed for the same reason.

The tube was open on Thu/Fri but presumably it has been risked assessed and found to be dangerous.

There are people sight seeing. At first I was quite angry and felt they were ghouls but after that I felt ashamed and think it is such a massive event that people need to be able to see for themselves and come to terms with it.

When DD1 came back from Uni on Thursday she had seen it on TV but when she looked out of the window at the reality she was struck by the horror.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 17/06/2017 18:11

You think that this story can't hurt you any more then you read about the boy who was on a sleepover with a friend a few floors up and his sister and mum can't find him

Unimaginable pain

Bobcat15 · 17/06/2017 18:13

Locals are adamant the true figure of the dead is likely to be closer 150 as there were so many illegal sublets and B&B's in the tower. Identifying these poor souls is going to be an impossible task.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 17/06/2017 18:14

Another question

Who is managing the millions donated ? Does anyone know what's happening there - and will they also help people who are temporarily misplaced - as they need help too
