Number of those who perished feared to rise into triple figures as search proceeds Flowers
Search for remaining victims expected to take weeks, sadly it’s considered unlikely that it will be possible to identify all the victims Flowers
Names of those still missing start to emerge Flowers
Nearly 80 victims being treated across six hospitals, with 15 still in critical care Flowers
Hundreds of people displaced and dispossessed, concerned about when and where they will be rehoused Flowers

Public inquiry ordered.
Criminal investigation launched.
Serious questions being asked about fire safety regulations, management of social housing, austerity and inequality.

The area I grew up in started its own HA, run, in a voluntary basis, by people who lived there, and it was wonderful, regenerating Victorian tennements and old hostels for the homeless into lovely flats, however it be came the victim of its own success as it grew too big, and too well run, so the powers that be allowed it to be swallowed up by another HA . The money that was wasted on rebranding it and completely changing the original goals was ridiculous.
One of the low raise buildings was built to house elderly residents, with lifts, adapted baths and shower rooms, beautiful communal area and it was thriving, until the new HA decided to allow anyone, of any age, or background, to live there, slowly but surely, as the elderly died, it filled up with junkies and anti social people and now the police are there at least twice a week. What started off as a perfect example of a functioning HA, turned into an embarrassment and a disgrace

A riot won't help anyone.

user1496484020 · 16/06/2017 17:21

I wonder whether the authors of the complaint letters to the TMO made it out of the building safely?

RhythmAndStealth · 16/06/2017 17:24

Agree the BBC bloke is doing well. He is helping people articulate and vocalise their anger. Shows what can happen when people are spoken to like human beings.

The guy with the megaphone reading out the councils responses did really well.

Did he really say 'the council took his number and told him they'd let him know the number of residents when they'd looked at a list' though?!

THEY HAVEN'T EVEN LOOKED AT THE LIST OF TENNANTS YET Shock

BeesOnTheWing · 16/06/2017 17:24

I have family who lived in a place synonymous with riots. It's not in anyone's interests bar young thugs and the old bastards who incite them.

HemanOrSheRa · 16/06/2017 17:26

No plan whatsoever by the council. All of the organising of supplies has come from voluntary organisations and public. Oh questioned this on thread two yesterday morning mrsglow. It's a disgrace. No presence from the council whatsoever.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 16/06/2017 17:26

Did anyone watching BBC catch what happened with the bloke with the boom?

RhythmAndStealth · 16/06/2017 17:27

Agreed Bees

Right now there is no riot, just protests.

I don't blame them for protesting at all.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 16/06/2017 17:29

And lily Allen on the BBC has said they're withholding information and the toll is actually at 150!

Lily Allen needs to shut the fuck up really.
She's encouraging conspiracy theories and risking inflaming things even more.

These people are devastated. They've lost everything & are really, really hurting & really, really angry.
Understandably.

There's been fake news circulated about D notices & suppression of information and it's cruel beyond belief - they don't know what or who to believe & getting precious little help or information from the authorities.

user1496484020 · 16/06/2017 17:30

Bees - if your children were missing would you feel so calm?

brexitstolemyfuture · 16/06/2017 17:31

What time was lily Allen on the BBC? Was it BBC news?

BeyondStrongAndStable · 16/06/2017 17:33

If she was on the news, I missed her

EmilyBiscuit · 16/06/2017 17:35

Everyone has a breaking point. If you have never reached yours, count yourself lucky. I've never reached mine, and I regularly thank the heavens for that. I can't honestly say I can guarantee I wouldn't have reached mine had my sister and her children been trapped in that building.

Lily Allen was on C4 news yesterday questioning why nobody was admitting the scale of the tragedy.

BeesOnTheWing · 16/06/2017 17:35

I am just saying RIOTING does nothing to improve situations ime: the polar opposite.

There is an unsafe building that is still only partially accessible. It was going to be a drawn out process to recover bodies. It's tragic.

mrsglowglow · 16/06/2017 17:35

It just feels like they want a riot to deflect. I don't think they could treat these people any worse if they tried.

At the moment they can't blame anyone but them greedy selves. If there is another disaster the attention turns. Thing is the world is watching and remembering this.

HemanOrSheRa · 16/06/2017 17:35

I think Lily addressed the protesters before they moved on to the townhall. I didn't see it though.

brasty · 16/06/2017 17:49

If I had had to watch my neighbour throw her baby out of a window, and had friends and relatives who had died in a totally preventable way, I would be very far from reasonable. I would be the woman wailing and shouting.

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 17:53

As I said - I have experience of a house fire - experience of the same issues repeating themselves even after a fire and the council doing nothing I must admit if another fire happened I would have reached my breaking point. I would be rioting or taking extreme action like chaining myself on top of somewhere to protest.

When you are afraid and you come up against an impassive patronizing council its maddening. Esp when you find out people earn more than some MPs on councils.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 16/06/2017 17:54

I have watched some of the coverage and seen pictures of the town hall. That's not a riot. That's broken people protesting.

They are being very restrained, considering what they have gone through.

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 17:55

I dont blame them at all. Something extremely fishy has gone on there. I would be demanding answers to and I would want to see the very people who made the decisions that led to tragedy.
I think councils get away with far far too much.

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 17:57

although if Lilly Allen is involved it could be more like the momentum crowd using this as a political stick....and the usual anarchists which takes credibility away .

EmilyBiscuit · 16/06/2017 17:59

All these people are asking for is the scale of the loss of life to be acknowledged, and to be given homes in their own community. I think we can all understand wanting our devastation to be properly recognised and the need to be in a familiar place, around familiar people in times of grief.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/06/2017 18:01

I think they need to give a missing number now- they must have a pretty reasonable estimate by this point. Leaving it to rampant speculation is making it worse
