This is shocking - apologies if it is already here somewhere.

They'd fitted the wrong water system so the supply was sitting in the pipes and becoming a risk for legionnaires, they had to rip it all out and start again. The boilers heated the flats up to dangerous temps too, I recorded 34 degrees in my son's bedroom. We were very concerned about young childrens' safety in that heat.

brexitstolemyfuture · 16/06/2017 13:46

Ah I see but problems have existed in these towers for decades? What did Labour do then - the champion of the poor to make these buildings safe

You can't compare new labour to labour now. Nl is virtually the same as the Tory's. Corbyn shows a bright and different future

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 13:47

I think the old style building from 1974 wouldn't have gone up like this

No, the residents own blog has said issues for 20 or so years sprung up - that covers labour.

For those who want the blame tories.

And the Mail also has stories about the cladding and the cost cutting and TM being heartless.
I cant understand why this is being funneled into political point scoring?

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 16/06/2017 13:47

Listening to a bloke on LBC right now, breaking down in tears.

He's angry too.

W should all be fucking angry, and be directing our anger at the right fucking people.
Everyone from Government to councillors should be made to pay for this.

Albadross · 16/06/2017 13:48

Also Lana I hope there aren't riots, for obvious reasons.

brexitstolemyfuture · 16/06/2017 13:48

With the fire cuts did they have longer ladders and hoses before the cut?

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 13:51

Bullshit.

Utter bullshit.

Hold people to account, riot get angry - we should all do whatever it takes to make sure everyone is safe right now in these blocks but dont blame the tories, 13 years of the champions of the poor and those blocks were still danger traps.

What about the other MP's in the labour party or was every single one of them a true tory then like you say blair was? Does the whole party need purging?

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 16/06/2017 13:51

No I know really.

But how the fuck do poorer people make the rest of the country listen to them??

If you complain correctly you are ignored, if you riot, you are a cunt.

What do poorer people do when no one will listen to them??

Seriously??

What the fuck is the answer?

Dont riot/speak sensibly = get ignored

Riot = get treated as scum.

I don't thnk there is a middle way.

It's clear no one actually gives a shit.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 16/06/2017 13:52

Corbyn tabled a motion to get housing regs looked at years ago.

And yeah a lot of the Labour party should be feeling fucking guilty this morning.

gluteustothemaximus · 16/06/2017 13:52

No, the residents own blog has said issues for 20 or so years sprung up - that covers labour.

For those who want the blame tories.

I'm not trying to blame the tories. But you can't honestly say that had the concrete outside remained the same, it would have been the same result??

RoseAndRose · 16/06/2017 13:52

Parachutes? No way. BASE jumping is fucking dangerous even when you've been trained in the kit, are calm and prepared and in a relatively safe place in clear conditions. Insane to try it through smoke, let alone blaze. You wouldn't be able to push out far enough to miss the flames, even assuming you know how to push off to miss the structure. And if the parachute was hit by water from a hose it would fail.

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 13:53

But how the fuck do poorer people make the rest of the country listen to them??
I had a massive fire issue - with fire - and as I said up thread I am not poor and I had to turn getting someone to listen to me into a FT job for months I had to fight tooth and nail and get nasty to get a meeting with a council person who even then was bizarre.....

i dont know what people can do - its bizarre....I dont know why it isnt always top priority.

SylviaPoe · 16/06/2017 13:53

There being issues in the tower block for twenty years does not mean that they were always at risk of this kind of fire.

It is political because we are seeing numerous situations happening which are obviously impacted by austerity.

The cost of dealing with all the problems caused by austerity could well exceed the supposed savings.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 16/06/2017 13:53

Corbyn is one of the only people who should have no guilt about this.

He spent years in the back benches trying to make people (even in his own party) listen to his concerns.

No one did.

And then shot him down.

BarchesterFlowers · 16/06/2017 13:54

I think this has always been a borough under conservative control hasn't it? So spending under local powers always under a tory majority.

chantico · 16/06/2017 13:55

Blame can't be assigned until at least the basics of what happened have been established. This looks (potentially) multi factored and there just aren't going to be quick answers. No matter how much people bay for them.

I'd rather see a thorough job than a quick one.

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 13:56

But you can't honestly say that had the concrete outside remained the same, it would have been the same result??

^^ if you read any of the blogs you will see power surges - dangerous electrics, smoke, out of date fire equipment etc etc etc - lifts broken never fixed in a timely fashion etc all on going issues for years.

One would have thought those building would have had best fire regs in the UK due to their nature. They should have been torn down or totally rebuilt years ago.

mrsglowglow · 16/06/2017 13:56

ssd · 16/06/2017 13:56

barchester, thats shocking, and he's the man being lined up to be the next PM when they get rid of May

thats what the people voted for

Albadross · 16/06/2017 13:57

IdontTrusther do you want to share what happened?

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 13:58

I think this has always been a borough under conservative control hasn't it? So spending under local powers always under a tory majority

But it should be Law that all building meet fire reg standards. No matter what gov in power and what spending issues are

SylviaPoe · 16/06/2017 14:00

Who carries out fire regulation inspections?

How is it regulated?
How soon after new work does this have to be carried out?

SquirmOfEels · 16/06/2017 14:01

Surprisingly good editorial www.standard.co.uk/comment/comment/evening-standard-comment-the-lessons-we-can-learn-from-the-grenfell-tower-fire-a3566651.html

Over £2m raised by SS alleal

PigletJohn · 16/06/2017 14:01

"With the fire cuts did they have longer ladders and hoses before the cut?"

I will assume that is an attempt at a joke.

No, but they had more firefighters, more stations, and more appliances.
