Subletting council properties is already against regulations, isn't it?

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 11:25

worm exactly what I thought.

BeyondStrongAndStable · 16/06/2017 11:25

From my local council...
"If a resident sub-lets the whole of a property, this is in breach of the tenancy agreement and the resident will lose their security of tenure. Action may then be taken to end the tenancy in line with the Abandoned Property policy. Action will be taken to remove any occupants remaining in the property after the tenancy has been ended in accordance with the Illegal Occupation policy."

BeyondStrongAndStable · 16/06/2017 11:27

Partial sublets and lodgers can also only be permitted with written permission

TeaCake5 · 16/06/2017 11:27

May is a coward. Doesn't dare meet people as they know they will be angry and shock horror may ask questions. Strong leadership fuck off don't make me laugh.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 11:33

teacake She is really hiding away, isn't she?

Barely seen her the last few days.

I guess she knows that if she goes there, she's going to get bottled. What a fucking coward.

Dowser · 16/06/2017 11:34

I hope so brexit
BBC said 70 could be missing.

Dowser · 16/06/2017 11:34

She's going to hospital to visit the survivors.
Queen going to a rescue centre

Dowser · 16/06/2017 11:39

Why are names of those in hospital not released
At least give some relatives some knowledge...even if not made public

Just give out an announcement that there is a list at the main rescue centre..

When our son was badly bitten by a Rottweiler l the first 24 hours not knowing who the dog belonged to was horrendous .

What these distraught relatives are going through is just horrible

barrygibbscheekbones · 16/06/2017 11:44

dowser what do you mean by 'releasing' the names of those in hospital? The have said that all those in hospital have been identified, so I presume next of kin have been made aware. The rest of us have no right to those details, unless the injured/their families want to release them.

Dowser · 16/06/2017 11:46

Heard a lady this morning looking for a 12 year old child saying she was hoping she was in hospital.

WinnieTheW0rm · 16/06/2017 11:46

I've got the news on in the background and the Queen and Prince William are being cheered.

Every now and again, the value of a non-political head of state really show itself.

barrygibbscheekbones · 16/06/2017 11:46

Beyond re the 5 year old, I presume his family have not wanted to speak to the media, give more details about their family etc, and that's why there's not been much coverage.

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 11:47

only just come to threads but reading how one lady may have saved her and her families lives by flooding her flat with water.

I wonder if/how/why/ this advice was given out on the phone? it would have helped surely if everyone was told to start flooding flat?

Not sure why people are talking about subletting or what impact this has on the situation?

barrygibbscheekbones · 16/06/2017 11:49

Sadly, I think the fact that they have said all hospitalised people have been identified, means that if you haven't been told your relative is one of those in hospital, then you have to prepare for the worst news.

CloudNinetyNine · 16/06/2017 11:50

Whenever there is a disaster the news media generally go on and on about how many are feared missing, dead, injured etc. It sometime feels like the more dramatic the better.
The fact not much speculation of numbers had been going on, I think, speaks volumes. It's too 'close to home' and I think the media have been asked not to speculate.

barrygibbscheekbones · 16/06/2017 11:50

Subletting doesn't have any impact apart from possibly causing more difficulties in identifying victims.

PigletJohn · 16/06/2017 11:51

"Why are names of those in hospital not released "

Because it's none of your business.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 11:52

cloud I agree.

barry subletting is not really good though. Often people get the flat from the council and then rent it out at a profit. Not really in the spirit of things. Means the tenants can't get insurance either.

CloudNinetyNine · 16/06/2017 11:52

Not sure why people are talking about subletting or what impact this has on the situation?
People are saying this is why there would not be an 'official' list of who could be in the building. Or how many people could be living there.

HandbagKrabby · 16/06/2017 11:54

I've a 5 year old with the same name. My heart is breaking. It's definitely being minimised, usually children are focused on more - look at the Manchester attach for example.

Badbadbunny · 16/06/2017 11:54

We can not let this become another Hillsborough with a shitty public inquiry that didn't get the truth.

Thankfully we're in a different era now with the internet and social media. Back in the days of Hillsborough, unless you or your nearest and dearest were there, you had to rely on newspapers and TV to tell you what was going on. They in turn relied on official announcements. Today, the media themselves are reporting from social media so those closely involved have a public platform to tell it how it really was. We are all easily able to access information from the internet, such as the Grenfell residents' blog complaining of safety issues going back nearly 20 years, and there'll be similar webpages from other estates and of course we're able to compare with similar fires in other countries. Individually, we're a lot more empowered and have far easier access to information than ever before.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 16/06/2017 11:55

I'm sure the hospitals are doing everything they can to inform the relatives, if that's what you mean, but they have people who might be unable to speak, without papers, so it's difficult process.

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 11:57

Thank you Cloud.

TheWitchAndTrevor · 16/06/2017 11:57

I wonder if/how/why/ this advice was given out on the phone? it would have helped surely if everyone was told to start flooding flat?

A man who spoke to his friend on his phone, who was trapped with his family on one of the top floors, told him to wet towels and put them over the children to get down.

His friends reply was the water was not working.
