Twelve people confirmed dead with that number expected to rise significantly.

Many others injured and distressed. People have lost relatives, friends and their homes.

250 firefighters in attendance, risking their lives in an unprecented fire and it's aftermath. Other emergency services and NHS staff working hard to help survivors.

Many questions to be answered.

Flowers to all those affected and everyone helping.

Sus1San2 you are vile. How dare you. I'm a council tenant AND I work for the same LA as a Housing Officer. Roll that up and shove it up your hole.

HelenaDove · 15/06/2017 19:14

I would like Sus1s post to stay. It proves what a lot of us have been saying. That tenants are seen as worthless.

Good article by Frances Ryan for The Pool

BossyBitch · 15/06/2017 19:15

Yes, Woman ... and those children matter. And adults without children matter. Even the actually lazy and the not-so-nice people matter. That would be because people matter as such - if we can't agree on this very basic standard, what's the point of so-called civlisation?

Someone please put me on the waiting list for a cave and a club then, will you?

Prideinmyplace2 · 15/06/2017 19:15

It looks like the builders followed the regs, but they can't be stringent enough if they allow flammable polystyrene to be used as cladding!! I feel sick Second richest borough in the country used a cheaper, ignitable, material rather than rockwool! I believe it's all down to policy both from RBK&C & the Govt. It really is disgusting & should bring down May, as this is a classic example of austerity killing, mainly poor, people😡

PigletJohn · 15/06/2017 19:17

Sus1san2

I am a bearded multibillionaire, born and brought up in Britain, with numerous profitable companies making vast amounts of money, operating in Britain, from British companies selling to British companies. With my beard and my red-uniformed air hostesses I am much loved by the British public.

I have moved to the British Virgin Islands so I don't pay any income tax, and I have moved all my companies here so they don't pay any British Corporation tax (except for my Banking and Investment companies, which are propped up by the British taxpayer's guarantee schemes, so I've had to leave them in Britain).

I hope you aren't suggesting that people like me should be expected to chip in and support the British economy by paying taxes? My friend who owns the Daily Mail, and my other friend who own the Times and the Sun would be shocked at such an idea.

WellThisIsShit · 15/06/2017 19:17

Dearest Suss post has that ignorance only the really arrogant can vomit up.

Housing is out of reach to those who fucking WORK too. I'll bet most of the people did work, possibly 2 or 3 jobs, possibly as key workers in the NHS and other essential jobs.

Check your privaledhe and have some compassion. There but for the grace of God, Sus, the bodies in those flats are just as valuable as yours whatever you choose to pretend to yourself.

Maireadplastic · 15/06/2017 19:17

Sus1san2

I know, right? These layabouts in their cheap homes. They should stop working minimum wage jobs and get a proper job and buy a house.

Hold on a minute....the first person announced dead was a Syrian refugee and civil engineering student. How do we square that?

mrsglowglow · 15/06/2017 19:19

Oh my Sus1san2 do you really not believe the residents of grenfell towers were /are already working? Probably doing more than one job as well. There's a family whose mother was out cleaning offices at midnight with her family sleeping in the flat when the fire broke. There will be many life stories - heart breaking hard working families whose lives are now gone. Are you telling me they don't have a right to safe housing? No one is asking for a money tree. What decent people are asking for is a fair country. I tell you Jeremy Corbyn gets my vote now. And it is political.

HelenaDove · 15/06/2017 19:20

From fb.

"A woman phoned in to the Wright Stuff this morning, her block is managed by the same company as Grenfell, they found out yesterday their doors aren't fire doors. They have paid for independent Fire safety checks (which said not safe to live in) and challenged their management company. Am I happy leaving this woman living in a building like this for months whilst we wait for an inquiry? No we need immediate action, this isn't a one off. We found money for a snap election the government can find the money to help these councils make these buildings safe"

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/06/2017 19:21

Sus1San2
You haven't got a fucking clue have you! Have you got even the most basic idea about social housing in London. We are wealthy but DH is N African like many who live in that area and I have seen the problems they have with housing. Where the hell do you think shop workers, bus drivers and cleaners live? I can tell you they aren't buying flats in London.
I was right by that block on the weekend and I wonder if some of the children I saw playing are now dead.

HelenaDove · 15/06/2017 19:22

Sus1 is trying to derail this thread and stop us talking about more rights for tenants. Dont let her.

Saucery · 15/06/2017 19:23

But who the hell is signing off this work from a fire prevention and containment pov? Why is basic caravan siding being used at all and why has no one raised this in an official capacity?

manechanger · 15/06/2017 19:24

I have only read the last page but, perhaps I've missed it, when is the charity concert happening? or are these the 'wrong' sort of victims?

Everything about this situation makes me angry. It is a disgusting display of rich corporations lining their pockets by any means and deregulation assisting them.

I don't know if anyone saw the BBC cut off a young resident who was (rightly in my opinion) displaying his anger. he swore once, like that's odd when you've just experienced a tragedy like this. grmdaily.com/peaky-grenfell-resident-bbc-news

SylviaPoe · 15/06/2017 19:26

Most tragedies don't get a charity concert.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/06/2017 19:27

Christ, another one.

MrsDanversKnickers · 15/06/2017 19:27

Ignore the GF.

HelenaDove · 15/06/2017 19:27

ITV1 are doing an edition of Tonight about this......now.

user1496484020 · 15/06/2017 19:27

Saucery - I can guarantee you how that conversation went.

Council person: So is there any reason why this material shouldn't be approved? It's very much cheaper. We're talking a lot of money here

Engineer: If a fire broke out, the material may be flammable.

Council person: but the chances of that are minimal.

Engineer: the risk is minimal but the potential for devestation is high.

Council person: we're satisfied that the risk is low enough. That's settled.

Saucery · 15/06/2017 19:28

That's crass, namechanger. The concert was because the Manchester terrorist attack happened at a concert

This isn't fucking Top Trumps.

thereallochnessmonster · 15/06/2017 19:29

A fireman on the BBC 6 o'clock news said that 'they hope the death toll won't get into triple figures'.

Bloody bloody mess. Poor poor people.

HelenaDove · 15/06/2017 19:29

The fact that the Daily Mail have concentrated on the tenant whose flat the fire started in proves the point i made earlier. That certain elements of the media are part of the problem.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/06/2017 19:30

The upkeep of social housing is a real elephant in the room. I have known people with rotten windows with holes in the frames, damp, mice etc. where their only option was to report the HA to the council to try to get them to force the HA to bring the property up to standard.

Saucery · 15/06/2017 19:32

Oh, I know, User14, but why is this shit even being produced? I know the answer is money, I just can't get my head round the industry allowing it. There used to be a Fire Service ad years ago, I think, showing a caravan going up. And definitely a big outcry about those poly ceiling tiles, which don't seem a lot different to the cladding in materials. Massive outcry, everyone urged to get them out their houses asap.

BossyBitch · 15/06/2017 19:32

Didn't see the BBC cutting off the young man but did see Sky News repeatedly apologising for residents audibly swearing during their live broadcast.

Is that what we're worried here? People saying "fuck" while we all get to watch footage of desperate, stuck people waving for help as they're dying in their death traps of a flat?

How about we apologise for systematically sidelining the poor?
How about we apologise for voting Tory out of self-interest?
How about we apologise for privatising and commercialising pretty much every single public service the UK has ever had?
How about we apologise for buying into this fucked up narrative that vilifies anyone who doesn't come out on top in this brave, new, shiny corporate for-profit world?
And how about we apologise for letting people die, sacrificing them on the altar of 'fiscal responsibility'?

How about that, then?

And, yes, I apologise too - I'm livid and not at my most civil at present!

FruitCider · 15/06/2017 19:32

I'm still trying to think of something to say, but I'm utterly speechless. Such a tragic loss of life. Very sorry to hear of your loss PP. Flowers
